Title: Camber & Alignment in Midlands
Post by: Deako on September 03, 2012, 10:15:08 am
Can someone suggest somewhere that can setup camber and alignment properly in the midlands (preferably Birmingham) without breaking the bank (ie, anything motorsport related is going to be £100-200).

I have setup the camber by eye (yes Greeners, i have adjusted it since it was in at DMR ;) ) but its still about 2 deg negative when i would prefer it around 1 deg for a road car.

I was thinking of Autovolks next to the Solihull VW dealership. But no experience of using them in the past. I know of someone that had camber/alignment done there a few years back for £45.

TBH I used to go to BDM and was looked after by Alex but then he buggered off so now it's the TTShop.

Bedford isn't so local though!!

I've heard that BMTR do a fairly good job, but charge around £100.

And also wear my tyres down to the canvas getting there! ;)

Midland VW & AlineYourCar are both £60. So both good shouts too.

I used ABP Motorsport in Shavington (near Crewe - Jn16 M6). They are very highly rated and have won numerous "Garage of the year" awards. They did my alignment  :notworthy:

Only an hour on the M6

Ok, so I've finally booked in to BMTR and they are doing camber/alignment for £35. Bargain.

Well, that was a complete joke. Turned up at 8am. As instructed and as the text message confirmation specifies.

"you are booked in at 8:30"

The fecking text message says 8am!!

"you do realise its £85 and will take 2 hours?"

Errr. No. I confirmed twice on the phone the price and I was told 60 minutes and £35. Which I thought was excellent, and why I double checked. I didn't mishear.

Got straight in the car and drove off. First experience bad, so won't be returning unfortunately. Thankfully it only takes 20 minutes to get there.

I`ve just been looking to get mine done, but I`m in North Yorkshire and struggling to find somewhere with a decent reputation.

The only one I`ve found so far quoted me £135. A bit steep I thought.

Midland VW are generally good, but I would not use them for an alignment. They did mine about 6 months ago when I had my WALK fitted. Took it to Alex a few weeks ago and every single setting was miles out. I don't really think they know what they're doing when it comes to alignments.
