Title: 1st problem and it's the air-con
Post by: Alexis on September 03, 2012, 07:38:57 pm
Hello,

Here is my situation, the air-con has stopped working over the past week only having the car 3 weeks.  When the ac is turned on (& econ off) there is a drop in the revs but the fans do not engage.  Both the fans are in full working as they come on when the car is left ticking over.

From numerous searches on here all fingers point to a knackered compressor.  Is this the most likely cause in my case? Or becuase the fans don't engage and the drop in revs when turned on, is it just a case of a re-gas?

I take it was a private buy ?

If at dealer take it back, for them to sort it out for you?

It seems across the pond 06/07 MKV GTi had a recall due to faulty AC Units, maybe something here has been set up, am sure someone will come along with more knowledge.

It was from a independent dealer, it came with a 3 month warranty but it's a 2 hour drive .  I was just wondering whether it sounds like just a case of a re-gas as with my Mk4 the fans cut out when the gas was low.

Alexis,

EXACTLY the same thing has happened to me. Bought a 2005 Golf TDi 2.0 at the weekend and the air compressor failed during the test drive so a new one is on order and will be fitted this weekend :)

Agree but well worth it.

I would give him a call and see if he will agree to you taking it to a specialist near to you to have the fault investigated and fixed at his cost.
