Guys,
I want to ensure I've understood the one years warranty I got with my 2006 Gti correctly;
Say for sake of argument I bought the car from Leeds VW and I live in London, presumably any problems I get means that I can take it to my local VW dealership for repairs within the Warranty period, that would obviously be covered as opposed to ONLY the one the car was bought from?
Couldn't see anything in the documentation that states this and although it may be obvious, I like to be safe in the knowledge as I guess this varies from a new car warranty? :)

I'm wondering this too as I have issues.
I'm going to call my closest dealer and see if they'll work on it. As far as I can see though, the warranty's with VW so it should work at any dealer.
Read the "whats covered" section as well and prepare to be disappointed, I've got 2 expensive broken components (A/C compressor and rear wiper motor) that aren't covered, and I bought my 05 from a main dealer in February.
-
If you purchased from a VW dealer then this should be an extension of the VW warranty - so any VW dealer will know its covered when then check it.
I know as I just bought a car from a dealer and they have given me 12months warranty and I checked it was full VW warranty which could be used at any dealer to which I was told yes.
-
That sounds like the warranty both I and the original poster has, thanks for clearing that up neg
-
no problemo! did you give me thanks for that
:happy2:
-
There you go! :happy2:

Got my 05 GTI from a non VW Dealership & paid extra for a further 12 month warranty & as long as the garage is v.a.t registered i can take it to get repaired.Warranty company then pay the garage.
-
Me too - got my 05 GTI with the 2yrs extended warranty. Can take it to any VW dealership. I won't coz my local dealership wouldn't give me the time of day whilst I was trying to buy a car. Will travel 35 mile to where I bought the car from.

I rang my local dealer (Autohaus Northampton), not the supplying one and they didn't want to know, I've heard through the grapevine they're going through some problems so its probably best I avoid them for now!
-
:scared:
eek.

Hey Tom,
N'town based? Cool. I'm Northants too.
Kettering and Northampton Autohaus are going through some sort of Franchising change to then be called 'Parkway Northampton' & 'Parkway Kettering' respectively. I called up last Tuesday to ask about some parts/servicing prices (Kett) and the chap on the phone said not a chance data wise because their computer system wasn't online, and to call back end of this week. Pretty unpro to have downtime during business hours but clearly it couldn't be avoided (?!)
My guess would be to try Milton Keynes, Vindis Bedford or a Leicester dealer maybe?
-
Ah I should've guessed you were local, you're a Diamonds fan then! Yeah I'm in Northampton town for my sins!
So they've been bought out, Parkway own the Derby dealer. Wollaston BMW had similar fate a few months back, but the new owner kept the old name. Shame, I liked the name Autohaus!
I've decided to send it back to Towcester...they've not got the best reviews but they supplied it so they had all my details there. Just under 2 weeks with a loan car, which isn't too bad considering some of the lead times I've worked with at other dealers.

Parkway also own Leicester

Heh, indeed I am :) Yeah, BMW had a 'closing' down sale last time I went past - has that died a death now, or was it just a pun to get some easy sales?
Yeah Parkway have bought both too. I'm hoping if I call up either now, I actually receive some kind of 'service'.
What's the courtesy car you've got?
More importantly too, what's wrong with yours? :surprised:
I'll look out for you in that case, Red 5 door 07 plate, yeah?

Wayside couldn't tell me what I'd get, so I'm expecting a 1.2 Fox. Anything better is a bonus! The excess on it is £2500 unless I pay them £12...ouch!
I've lost some power, so we think its got a boost leak or a knackered dump valve. Hopefully its a quick fix, I want the car back for the weekend!
Mine's a red 3 door, reg ends in TAB. If you spot me, give me a wave!

Hi guys, was wondering if anyone has bought the VW extended warranty. My 3 year cover runs out in august and i was wondering about costs involved with the genuine warranty and what it really covers? I have the DSG box so that was my main concern due to its cost of repair.

VW extended was about £400ish
-
IIRC it's about £300 for 12 months, or £400 for 24......(or £400/£500) can remember
Dan
-
Sure I was quoted £4xx for 12months additional
-
sounds about right - either way cheap for an additional 12 months peace of mind. That's why for the extra £100, I went for 2 years.
Dan
-
Depends how modded you are - in which case it might not be worth it.

LOL @ a fox. :happy2:
I hope the power loss is sorted for minimal cost. What are you expecting to pay?
Cool! I'll PM you my plate in case you see my about. I shall do, vice versa
I haven't checked the warranty documentation yet, although I must admit as you mentioned, I expect the minimum to be covered like most warranties for no cost/small cost.
-
having just purchased a private used, I was hoping there to be remaining balance of warranty left to transfer but it has non ;-(
car registered jan 06, previous owner brought from VW aug-08.
i thought to myself he would have got extended warranty i.e. 12 months from date of purchase, so upto aug-09.
oh well.
-
I was told it was 12 months, you should have a book with a sheet you fill in to transfer the details over. It costs £17.50 I think.
I'm sure I replied in here earlier, the thread's disappeared!
I'm hoping to pay nothing, the lady at the dealer told me its still covered under the warranty and manufacturers don't ask for contribution unless its outside the warranty.
Here are the terms, it says only 60 days outside the UK: http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/warranty/used-car/terms
