Apologies for the delay in getting this write up done (Steve), been manic here at DMR towers!
I'm sure there is no need for an introduction of this car as we are all familiar with the love story that is Steve and his Tornado Red Edition 30 which he calls Phylis!
Steve wanted us to enhance the paintwork which although was one of the reddest of the Tornado's on here, the paintwork was lacking in definition and clarity due to some swirling and light scratches. There were also a few area's that had needed smart repairs so we did what we could to improve the look of those.
We were also asked to send the custom painted Huffs away for a refurbishment as they had lost a bit of the original shine, and a few chunks of metal here and there!
So here is Phylis on her arrival at DMR:

So onto the wash stage with the usual 2BM and decontamination of the paintwork. And yes it was raining and have others have guessed from our Facebook page, that is Gaz getting wet!

I think you all get the idea now!
So while the wheels were on holiday I thought I'd give the calipers a good clean up and polish/seal as they were looking very Tornado Pink!

Want to give a huge thanks to Steve (and Mrs Steve) for taking the time and effort to bring the car to us all the way from the South Coast! :drinking:
Thanks for taking the time to read another one of our write ups.
Comments and questions welcome!

Having seen Steves car many times pre DMR I thought it always looked mint as he does take good care of it. Looking at the 50/50 pics I cant believe how bad it was.
Looking at it in the flesh now the paintwork is just awesome a proper head turner.
Great work guys :congrats:
-
Good work guys. :happy2: Its safe to say my cars wont go anywhere else now, and not just because you are only a stones throw (down the road) from us.
-
Very nice guys. Did you wash the brakes too hot as they seem to have shrunk?

Do you know what I like about these DMR write ups? They seem to be focused on what the customer wants. Rather than the going all out covering the car in Unicorn tears and polishing it with virgin's pubes malarkey.
I've been put off going to a detailer in the past, because they always ram a load of stuff down my throat and insist they need to do 4 days of frankly flabergasting processes. I don't doubt DMR would do this too if asked, but unlike all the others, they seem to listen when the layperson such as me just wants their car to look nice.
Well done.
-
As much as I can put DMR's way in terms of praise, and workmanship , absolutely 1st class. Those pics don't tell the full story and only people that have seen it now in the flesh can confirm, She's looking the best since I've owned it.
Picture 9 shows part of the wet sanding damage to the lacquer that didnt come out the 1st attempt, purely because the of VW's lacquer being too hard unless your using the correct equipment .
Thankyou again Guys, and I hope it convinces more people to come to you regardless of a few hours travel. :happy2:
By far the best money I've spent on the car to date.

Bloody hell, that's impressive. Can't believe the difference in 50/50 shots.

....I was about to post exactly the same and was trying to work out how to word it without appearing to be having a pop at ya!
Your later iPhone pics are unexpectedly (for an iPhone) hugely better. The red has a depth which I'm sure more accurately represents the true colour. Photographing any red is never easy.
-
Red is easy to photograph it's black and white that are the pain in the @rse.
-
this pic is a raw images took with my Nikon, which shows the results abit better..

I think that if your planning to keep your car long term though, surely isn't it like giving the exterior a freshen up and keeping it looking like the day you first bought and layed eyes on her
Bodywork is just as critical to me, as is an Oil change in some respects. but thats just my opinion :happy2
For relatively little expense robin, it's well worth and surprising how much different it looks. :drinking:

Great work Nathan! :notworthy:

Thanks folks! :ashamed:
Forgot to say in the write up that Steve supplied the LSP which was Natty's Red Wax. Really easy to use and filled the unit with a great smell! Steve will have to add his comments regarding longevity. :happy2:
-
^^^^
I've just checked out the Services page on your DMR web site, Nath (and now have stripey vision as a result of the white text on black background!)....
Your prices are much less than I expected and also you have a good range of cost options. Don't hold your breath on my account but perhaps one day I might head your way.

His polishing equipment wasn't strong enough to de-swirl it Rich. VWs paint being as hard as it is, requires a stronger pad, if you check Meguires Site, they do a kit purely for treating VW cars.
the other scratches were from the wet sanding that was tried , but again because the clear coat is so hard , it was too deep for his Polishing gear to properly restore it,which Nathan and Gaz then had the pleasure :ashamed:.
Nathan also more or less completely blended in the boot lid that had a Nasty scratch that David Proctor Was kind enough to fill in at short notice but again couldn't blend it properly which Nathan has managed. :happy2:
Yea, I regularly use Nattys Red Paste wax as the cars LSP which if you love to eat strawberrys, it's the Wax you could almost eat from the pot, it's smells that good :ashamed:. It's currently my favourite, along with using Supernatural Hybrid on the alloys I tend to use of the Black gloss parts on the car.
Nattys Red is around £15 a pot and as good as Concours red which is also ment to be good too although looking at cars that have used it, it looks u get similar results providing your cars paint is in good shape before using to give the best look.
one thing I'd like to say is, get Nathan to show you his Ken Dodd feather duster.. Make me laugh watching him making sure the car didn't have a single spec of Mosquito poo on her when I arrived... Made me and Mrs Saint chuckle
@robin... Honestly robin, you won't be disappointed, it's really is worth doing if you can. if you passing this weekend as I know your going to JKM, pop by mine and your welcome to come take alook. :happy2:

looking good, I thought it would be a Vics wax. Never got got round to trying the nattys red had prev tried the blue and white, but have 3 pots left over of the red  so no doubt it will get an airing.

looking good, I thought it would be a Vics wax. Never got got round to trying the nattys red had prev tried the blue and white, but have 3 pots left over of the red  so no doubt it will get an airing.
If your willing to loose a pot or two Keith, let me know mate :happy2:
I could be tempted to invest in a pot to eat use!

Nattys wax is brilliant stuff. I use Nattys blue on my black Gti. It's really easy to use, durable, gives the car a lovely wet look and smells good enough to eat.... :happy2:
