Hello All,
had my Mk5 GTI stolen from driveway back in july, scumbags broke into house through locked kitchen window and took the car with keys while my wife and I were at work. No mess or anything else stolen in house as keys were left out on stairs. I know it was careless but first time I've owned one of these, didn't realise how nickable they are! I've since installed extra window locks, security lights and home alarm system. Anyway really enjoyed the car for the 2 weeks I had it and now insurance has paid out I'm in the market for another car but not sure whether to get something less targeted. Anyone had similar dilemma and what decision did you make?

Get another Golf and a Rottweiler. :happy2:

:signLOL:
Or a staffy! Those things don't let go unless you put your finger in a dodgy place....
-
Never let them win, just get another GTI and enjoy it.
Oh, and a Rottweiler.
-
Buy another golf, why give in to these low life scum of the earth creatures of the night,my choice would be either gti or r32 or staying with the vag platform the awesome audi s3.
Dougie :happy2:

I don't know what the parking is like round your way but maybe you could park the car in the street away from your house a little next time you go away.
-
I do have a garage attached to my house but have never kept my car in it. I could clear it out. Have also bought a Disklok and considering gates on driveway. Have read about the Blackjax system but maybe the easier option would be a fast diesel instead.
-
Just clear the garage out and put it to bed each night!
-
Put mine away every night... and the keys are hanging up in my staffy's sleeping den... he hates strangers in the house !!! good luck scrotes

.............get another GTI & keep the keys with you & not on display. If you have a garage use it i do.

fast diesel
:rolleye: Isn't that an oxymoron?
As for alternatives, if driving purity is high on the list I'd look at a BMW 130i m-sport, ditch the run-flats and fit an ATB diff. A friend has one as a daily drive, and although it's not going to set the world on fire in a straight line (and the looks are marmite), there's no doubting it is a good steer (with the rear if required).

Have been considering the BMW 1 series & civic type r as alternatives that drive/handle well. Test drove a seat Leon fr diesel but steering felt a bit light, lacking feedback after gti. Would these cars be less targeted than a golf gti by criminals?

All cars are targetted by opportunist thieves.

Although obviously hot hatches (and other fast cars) would to be higher up their list.

Get another gti and use your garage :happy2:

You cant let them win mate, if it is fully insured it can be replaced!
Life is too short not to enjoy something for the fear of others taking it.

Was in the same situation as you back in 2010 so i know ohw it feels.
After my car was stolen it really put me off getting anything nice again. Eveyone i know with a GTi / R32 has either had it stolen or had an attempted break in. (Cops said it was more likely for the car).
The BMW 1 Series is even easier to pinch as they dont need the keys to do it.

Get another gti and a kalashnikov
-
Just get an octy vrs mk2. Same chassis, engine, gearbox, brakes etc. Basically a gti with a boot and a lot cheaper to buy.
-
Buy another, But keep a look-out for the thieving B4st*rds to try it again !
