Hi Guys,
I have been a moderator and active member of the AX Owners Club for 15 years, and have had 6 AX's which include 2 VTS'd ones. These featherweight cars are so much fun, with saxo vts engines, brakes, suspension bolted on... My track car had the 406 coupe v6 brembo four pots and would out brake caterhams at Brands...
My good friend Martin is co-owner of Tweeq'd Automotive in Bordon, and apart from his own VTR Turbo Ax, currently being rebuilt with a fully forged VTS turbo engine, he has just completed this one which is also a friends and customer of his, it was fully mapped on saturday... Forged 1.6 Turbo VTS.

What ya reckon it made...?

210
-
Dastek or Maha Dyno guess: 320
Dyno Dynamics dyno guess: 260
-
OOO not sure what dyno it was on, will check...
-
Now THAT is a sleeper!

It was Maha, and you're closest... :signLOL:
Why the difference between the rollers?
-
some use coastdown and sometimes a percentage transmission loss. the percentage loss types (usually older) are the worst, the dyno measures BHP (torque x speed) at the wheels and adds a pre determined transmission loss, say 20% for a front wheel drive car.
Not so bad, but here's the problem:
A car has 100BHP at wheels as standard (add the loss and you have 120bhp at flywheel as standard), the engine is removed and turbo charged and makes 300bhp at the wheels. Its bolted to the same transmission as before so a 20% power loss. It now has 360bhp at the flywheel.
So a transmission that lost 20bhp now loses 60bhp.
-
Ahhh righto, makes sense...
It made 318bhp!
-
It made 318bhp!
....And was it nice to drive?
-
What was bhp at the wheels?
-
What was bhp at the wheels?
Prob around 230 if it was a maha! :signLOL:
-
It made 318bhp!
....And was it nice to drive?
I'm not sure that's the point, and I think you know it
Must be nearly 600bhp/tonne?
-
Probably 450bhp/tonne depending how reliable bhp is...
-
It made 318bhp!
....And was it nice to drive?
I'm not sure that's the point, and I think you know it
....Indeed. That was my point - I don't see the point of upping the power to that extent unless it's also enjoyable to drive. :happy2:
-
I imagine they are just having a bit of fun and not taking themselves too seriously. It's probably an investment of time rather than money.
-
it's actually not too bad to drive Robin, runs uprated drivetrain with quaiffe diff etc... it's a trackday toy, not just a 1/4mile sprinter so has to drive... power is pretty linear apparently but boost come in hard and you gotta be ready for it as it's so lightweight... anything that light, wth so much power is never gonna be a refined driving experience... :signLOL:
-
What was bhp at the wheels?
265bhp @wheels... so what ya reckon Dave?
-
Fast little motor - don't dis the AX. :driver:
-
What was bhp at the wheels?

So about a 17% power loss. All good. What was the torque?
-
About 300lbft...
