probably, hard to tell until we see what others get, i know when it was built, and it was sat about a little while before i bought it, i am more than happy with the number, its a pretty special one LOL 8) 8) 8) (hence im waiting to make sure nobody else gets it too lol)

@Stealth - Why would yours be higher than mine?? I ordered mine 5 days before they stopped taking orders for the ED30 and it was built May this year.
I think having it near the gearstick looks far better but would like the idea of getting a copy made so it can be in the VW official position as well.

when they were cut there probably was a chunk missing out of the cutter, it will roll out with pressure, but best leave it to VW to sort as it could look worse if done wrong

They wont even know about it being a limited edition and if they did they would not care about a plaque or placing it in the car.

He's getting it re-mapped soon, and he's also made some more interior mods, with stainless to brighten things up.
After driving a Scirocco last week (he wasn't impressed) he says he's keeping it for a bit longer now (hence the re-map)

Aside from the plaques is there a quick/easy way to find out the build date of our Ed 30?? It was registered Oct 08. :happy2:

is everyone putting the Plaque in the correct place, or do you have other ideas for it ?, i want to have it in the right position eventually but would like it somewhere discreet in the cockpit area for now, ideas ?

You could have it in the ceiling, tucked behind the sunvisor. TBH I really want it in the engine bay or something but doubt it'd work.

What i meant was Stealth the only people as far as i can tell who are getting plaques are those ringing up and asking for them if this is the case then you are going to have well over a thousand cars with no plaques ever installed that will be a serious amount of imports rolling around if people come to the same conclusion as you. :chicken:

VW also advised these won't at this stage be available to re-order through the normal dealer channels.
However I have been in contact with the company that produced the plaques and they are going to come back to me if it's possible to get a run of selected numbers (if enough people are interested). So I let me know if this might be of interest to you :smiley:

I've spoken to Sean at CreativeFX (makers of the plaques) and enquired whether I could get any more. He told me that since the plaques went out - received mine on Saturday - he has been bombarded with enquiries regarding duplicates !! He said that it would not be a problem but it's a case of the more the merrier - he could not give me an exact price (he was busy with land line going as well !!!).
I'm just about to drop him an email - can I suggest that whoever wants duplicates signs up to the group buy thread. Good Idea Steve.

Just stick with the one plate guys, every other limited edition numbered car has done so in the past! eg.Lotus Carlton, etc etc..

As long as the guy is making money he will sell them to anyone, trust me! and now his details have been made available on a public forum, it makes it all the easier for people to get his contact info and do business OUTSIDE of the forum's control.

It is a bit like that, but for a lot of ED 30 owners this has been going on for a long time and many felt a bit cheated to say the least, so at least it is recognition of the fact its a special edition and also recognition from VW .
There is no easy response for VW to be honest at least they have stopped brushing it under the carpet even if as you say its a bit dubias as to how it will work. :innocent:

Agreed, likewise I have an offical letter which is being kept very safe indeed. It doesn't matter how "limited" the ED30 is, it was sold to me as a 1500 prodcution run .. this was the case in June 2008 ... and I have ended up with number 2101. The production run has been covered in a plethora of other threads on other forums and I am kind of sick of it now. I bought the car on the owness that it was a 1 in a 1500 only production run, so therefore I was duped by VW .. but thats another matter. Now I have my plaque - I can't see why it is a problem to want more - I intend on keeping the car for good anyway - so it's for me !

I know that they are coming from the proper badge company place but this completely goes against the whole reason you guys wanted the placqe in the first place. Can I also order one for our GTi?
The badge= unique to the vehicle going in a unique place. Not "I will have 5 badges" one for each rim and one for the rear view mirror.
I agree as nice as it is having contact with the producer and being able to get more... The fact that you are pretty much doing what VW did (I.E overproducing a badge) just takes the specialty away from other drivers and from the actually vehicle.
Dont ruin that for other people too. :happy2: :sick:

Thats rubbish guys. You all complained about vw overproducing your edition 30. You have a badge. Emphasise on the singular form of the word badge to prove its special edition with a certificate. And now you want to produce more badges? why not just do that in the first place? by making more you just making the car as tacky as a ford focus st. Like a wannabe honda. Im not gonna tell you exactly what i think though as it would offend.

Mike, while everyone is entitled to an opinion I don't think the way you putting your point across is very helpful to anyone at present.
I also think you missing the point about the plaques, these cheap bits of metal are just the carrier of the number issued to each of our cars and if any of the owners choose to get an additional plaque produced why shouldn't they. If they wanted to print the number on a t-shirt or mug would you have an issue with that as well??
These plaques aren't anything special nor is their any real form of certificate to back them up as "authentic", so in the schema of things it's a very small token gesture from VW to keep a small number of owners happy.
I like Greenouse am one of the 800 odd people who benefitted from the overbuild so have no axe to grind with VW on that one, my issue has always been around false and broken promises to mostly serial VW owners and enthusiasts.
If any one with a non-ED30 chooses to get a plaque made (via either the original supplying company) or the hundreds of other firms capable of producing such an item they more fool them.
These plaque are never going to be used by anyone to prove their car is an original ED30 IMHO

I fully agree with all of you. Its your car and you can do what you want with it. But i just think you guys are being silly by making more badges than vw specified. Its like a amg with a plaque saying the engine was built by john smith on the bonnet. You think wow. Im paying for a car that is known to have hand built engines by on guy. And next thing there is also a plaque on the roof saying the engine was built by joe soap. It kind of loses its appeal. But to be honest it reminds me of the term badge snobbery. Honestly. You only need one badge.

I like the idea of a mug rather than several other badges (not being sarcastic there either!). I will get a spare plaque, 2 reasons really, i don't want trust the 3M tape, and would like on for posterity.

One I get sentimental about my cars, I have absolutely no intention what so ever about selling my edition 30 just like the Mk1 GTi I inherited from my grandmother who in turn bought that new. For the same reason I have began buying all the Edition 30 specific things such as an additional steering wheel, gearknob, handbrake gaitor, Pescara's etc etc that will wear out - you may call me sad but in 20 years time - it will be something, all VW lovers - you can't beat those totally stock uber mint original Mk1's with 50k on the clock etc etc. My ED30 for the time being is my daily driver, but there will come a time when that is no longer the case, the PC will come out for paint correction and it'll stay in the garage as solely a dry weather weekend warrior - like my MK1. For that reason I am very analy retentative about it, but accept that it will age and wear as all things do ... That is why I want a duplicate plaque, if this one wears, scratches, falls off etc etc etc where am I going to get another one in 15 years time ? From a guy who has been subcontracted by VW (all be it a badge / livery specialist) - no dis respect to him or anything ... but will his business be there in 15 years to get another one ? It's not so that I can stick them all over the car - sell them on eBay - misrepresent other cars - no ! just for me, because I am a sad, anally retentive Edition 30 owner who intends to keep the car as long as it lasts and as such want a duplicate in case anything happens to it. I bought the ED30 as I have always had VW Golf GTi's since I was 17 - and feel I understand what the "GTi" is ... I never received a letter but rang the number anyway and confirmed my name, address and reg. with them. They didn't want my chassis number but I confirmed it with them anyway.
Was told that the plaques are being sent out in batches and I should receive it within 1-2 months. Afterwards I wish I'd asked why some people had received a letter and some not but didn't think of it during the call.
I'm guessing I'm going to be somewhere between 1400-1500 going on the numbers I've seen people posting already. If anybody wants to post their number and order date so I can have a guess at what mine will be please do, because I really can't wait to see what number I get (and hope it's a good one!). For the record I ordered mine in November 2007, somewhere around the 9th I think.

When you step back and look at it the build number does mean feck all really. They are all still going to be ED's and lets be honest even if someone does stick one on a Golf Match and put a gear knob/steering wheel on it still won't have the K04'd engine which is what I feel the defining factor of the car.
Who here would have bought and Ed if it just had a fettled stock GTi engine?

Gareth, thats a great post, slightly eccentric but each to there own as they say. Its quite a sensetive issue to a few ED 30 owners and i feel this issue should be left to those who own them. :chicken:

Is it worth having a slight difference on the "fake" badges to ensure they're not the same as VW ones but similar enough to look the part? Maybe take the full stop out? Or slightly different font?
TBH, if I find out what production number my car is, I may end up having it stamped into the chassis somewhere readily identifable.

I can also confirm after talking to VW this morning that the plaque should go on the DRIVERS side door. The covering letter in my envelope did say Passenger but the picture clearly shows the drivers door!
So just to confirm it's the DRIVERS door :happy2:

No letter but I rang them up last week and turns out my dealer hadn't updated the details on the vw database. Make sure your details are on vw's database!

Seems like they have now as I had a phonecall from my dealer on Saturday saying that they had received a bulletin from VW about the plaques and told me the number to ring.

Hi guys, picked up my ED30 recently and I was hoping to get my fancy plaque ordered from VW asap.
A few questions for you all (sorry if this has been asked before :party: )
Basically I've bought the car 2nd hand, am I able to call my dealer and sort out the ordering of this part or does the origional owner need to do this?
Also do I need to supply the Chassis number?

1. Make sure the car is a UK-spec one and not an import.
2. Ring your dealer and ask them to make sure your details are on the VW database.
3. Ring VW UK and ask about the plaque.
4. Wait. Maybe forever.

Just called them... AGAIN... still no news.
They can't tell me how many per batch, when each batch is sent, what the order is etc.
It must be someone's job to do this, so why can't they put me through to this person?! It's getting rediculous that no one has any idea.
I really can't see any "logical" order to the process they are following in sending them out.

I got a letter on 8th Jan telling me to ring Customer Service Centre with my vehicle's chassis number (0800 0833914). Once they receive this they say the plaque will be sent to my home with simple fitting instructions.
Their really seems to be no logic behind the batches that they send out, I've an early 07 so would imagine a low number but their is #2000 plus out their already.

Hmmm.... mine is on the passenger side - how am I going to re-attatch it, furthermore - how am I going to get 3M's sticky residue off the interior of the inside of the passenger door.

Spoke to VW customer Services on the 18th (yesturday), got a call today (19th) telling me the plaque is in the post by recorded delivery... cant fault that for service!! However, i enquired about buying an extra spare plaque...£100 :surprised:

Hi Folks,
A bit of a thread revival. I fancied a spare plaque after receiving mine from VW. I asked the lady at VW how much they were if i wanted another made for me...£99 per plaque :surprised:.
I got in touch with the makers and when i enquired they wanted £44 + VAT & Postage per plaque (vw = robbing gits). Anyway, i believe there was a group buy a while ago on these plaques which brought the price of each plaque down to £13 or so which is miles better.
Just wanted to see if any of the senior forum members would be interested in starting another GB on the plaques? :happy2:

I bought my Eddy recently and the guy I bought it from said that he had the plaque but didn't fit it?????? :fighting:
(He also said that he can't find where he put it as VW sent it to him about 18 months ago).
What he did say though was, that it's defo No. 100, as he thought it was a good number. :happy2:

My plaque has arrived but in all honesty I don't like the suggested positioning and can't find anywhere else suitable.
Would have preferred it to fit under the gearstick or somewhere central rather than hidden away on the door so just going to hold onto it as a keepsake.
I like the idea of the number on the metal part above the glovebox though so may do that if anyone can tell me the font used?

Others have fitted in on the centre console behind the gear lever, or on the ashtray lid.

Below the gear stick between the seats is where mine is. Had to carefully bend the plaque to fit the contours of the plastic but it looks great :happy2:
No point in shiny bits being where you can't see them

That would be my ideal location really, just didn't like that exact plaque in that exact location when I measured up, felt it would need too much careful bending!
Will have another look, have you got a picture of yours in situ?
From what I can compare the font looks very similar to Arial!

Mine arrived last week. Nice to know the number and have the badge. (no.859) I agree with some that the location is questionable. I might put mine beside the TPMS button.
