Guys,
Looking for a set of the very bright Halogen looking sidelights for my 2006 Golf Gti.
These are most noticeably used on the Audi A6 and the later pre-facelift sportback Audi A3's in a DRL style capacity. I purely want them for sidelight functionality. I think they'd look nice against the Grey of my Gti :)

Ebay only seem to do the Xenon style ones; I don't mind them having a hint of white glow, but rather they were very similar to the Audi style. I also understand many Xenon LED sidelights last about an hour too, this is what I found on my RS Clio's LED sidelights anyway? A few days usage would be nice.
I'm also understand I'll get a bulb error on the MF trip unless I initialise VAGCOM?
Thanks,
Pete.

To advance on this, I notice the Mk6 golf GT's seem to have them, look smart and ensure you are clearly seen during the day, DRL style.
Must be some knocking around the web for Mk5's?
-
Anyone?
Ebay and Google don't want to know :/

....This is the Mk6 DRL - A bit too yellow imo : -

I prefer my proper Hella LED DRL's which replace my fogs : -

That's the ones matey, on the Mk6.
They are very yellow, but I don't mind until I've mustered enough cash for some Xenons, as I have headlamp washers
Any idea on a source, plus if they fit Mk5's?
I've seen yours around various forums, Mkivs.net and golfgtiforum. They look ace - is there a bulb with a similar image for sidelight fitting?
Ta,
P.
-
Okay, just some bright halogen side lights then please?
Is is worth a call to places that stock Hella side lights for Mk5 VWG fitment?
-
if anything like Audi if you have Xenon's on the mk6 hopefully you'll get whiter DRL's.
On a note on the Audi's I like the way they dim when the indicator is on and then come back to full brightness once off, very swish and well designed.
-
Yeah look swish.
If I'm honest mate, I just want some slightly brighter side lights than the standard ones. I'll just drive on side lights when its raining or heading towards dusk, until I find a set of Xenons for a naughty price.
Is there any downside to fitting LED side lights and receiving the bulb error?
It doesn't disable the bulbs does it, or restrict any other aspects to the car?
I can live with a bulb error on the midline for a while if it means the side lights will look smarter.
-
iirc it disables the bulb so the led wont work, to get the led working you would have to fit resistors :happy2:
-
Just get white style bulbs - I fitted these with my xenon's as they matched the xenon white better than having the contrasting yellow. worked fine.
-
Ah, cheers Brett, no good then.
Got a link to yours at all please NEG (or similar) ?
-
I got them ages ago, think the brand was polar

^ Similar to these? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Side-Light-Bulb-White-501-VOLKSWAGEN-Golf-V-2003_W0QQitemZ270350545836QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item3ef225f3ac&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12|66%3A2|39%3A1|72%3A1683|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A1|294%3A50 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Side-Light-Bulb-White-501-VOLKSWAGEN-Golf-V-2003_W0QQitemZ270350545836QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item3ef225f3ac&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12|66%3A2|39%3A1|72%3A1683|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A1|294%3A50)
I don't think they'll be noticeable at night, let alone in the day  Too dull?
-
this linky may help mate but again there not super bright; http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=3090.0
-
Yeh there the type of thing - I'm sure I have some spare sets actually.
-
Thanks Brett.
Willing to let a set go NEG? Let me know and how much
Ta.
-
I would think so , sure I bought a few sets - will check my 'car box'
-
Thanks bud. PM me if so.

These are essentially what I'd like. I've got VAGCOM now so LED's that fit straight in without resistors aren't a problem.
I don't mind them being more 'yellow than below, but as long as they're near the brightness of the S3s' sidelights.

If you have VAG COM why not just activate the DRL's in that instead. You can even set the brightness level as a percentage.
I was running them a short while ago at about 50% and these very noticable during the day. Unfortunatley the MK5's can only activate the dip beam bulb or the fog lights as DRL's, not the highbeam as per the MK6's.
-
Okay.
Ultimately what I was looking for with this one was the same setup as the 8P S3, where i can run full beam during the day on its own. This in essence is obviously a DRL  Even if I had to activate manually, that'd be fine.
