Title: Milltek
Post by: ReeceH13 on September 12, 2012, 09:45:27 pm
Hey (me, again)

Thinking of getting a Milltek system.

Now, I love the sound of our beloved GTI's, however will the non-res make me sound like a 'boy racer' and will the resonated system be too quiet?

Can anyone let me know from experience? Want a nice louder sound but not a "look at that twa*" sound' lol

Ta

Resonated milltek tbe is as quiet as the standard oem one at low to mid rpm thereafter it becomes louder but not overly so.

Have you thought about a BCS system. They seem to get good reviews.

I have a non-res Milltek cat-back system on my GTI and its a perfect balance between motorway quietness and a nice warm sound when you give it some gas. In no way a ricer/boy-racer sounding exhaust  :happy2:

This is assuming you are running the standard cat, if you have a decat or sports cat the sound may increase but I doubt it would change into a raspy noise anyway...

That sounds quite dear, I paid around 460 to have mine supplied and fitted at an authorised dealer...

I have Non-Res Milltek TBE and am really happy with it. Perfect balance between sound and everyday normal driving in my opinion. If going for a TBE exhaust I would recommend fitting a Powerflex Dog-bone insert thingy, because mine was knocking without this when the car was scrabbling for grip or wheel spinning.

Cheers.

Is there any footage or video clips of the BCS powervalve system?

I sat in Mark Kelsalls Rocco R for a quick spin and it sounded great!  But it was quite a while ago.

I'm thinking more and more of maybe upgrading my Bcs prestige system to the powervalve as they're becoming quite popular.  I know Jake has just ordered one, bet it will sound epic if he gets big power from that loba  :driver:

I'm more than happy with my prestige system but the power valve might make it that extra bit more civilised when not giving it some  :innocent:

Cheers!

I've been running a turbo back resonated with the 100cell cat for about year half now. In my opinion I've always been slightly disappointed with the sound. I think it's quieter than standard apart from maybe on full chatter. I'm changing my centre to non res soon as a try seeing as I have rest of the system. If this doesn'tdo I'll go down another route. I got my Milltek at a good price virtually brand new with some carefull shopping so doesn't own me to much.
I've had to do quite a bit of rewelding on all sections of the exhaust in that time so I have to say not overly impressed with build quality.

A brand that advertises BIG will generally get big sales  :happy2:

I get the impression people buy Miltek as its the "main brand" of exhaust for the MK5 (and many other cars), not because its renowned for is spectacular build quality (not saying the quality is poor  :ashamed:).

Each to their own I guess (I'm not trying to start another Miltek vs ___ thread)

I bought my Miltek because I knew the name and worked on "you get what you pay for" and there weren't any options really available to me at the time.

My friend with a MkII Golf also recommended them
