Hi,
I have a problem with my 56reg gti. Over the past couple of days. On idle the revs are around 850-900 but increase up to as much as 2000 then drop back down after a few seconds. The exhaust emissions light is now on too.
I've done a couple of searches and it seems to point toward pcv problem. I briefly removed the oil cap whilst running and engine juddered / idled rough which as far as i have read would indicate pcv was fine?
I don't have a vagcom to hand so can't read codes if any are there. Car also sounds rough when engine slows/stops running
Any advise / experience of similar issue appreciated.
Thanks.

the best thing i would advise mate is to have a look on the VAGCOM register on this site
if there is anybody nearby, send them a quick message and the majority of people will give it a scan and offer advice for beer/beer tokens
hope you get it sorted :)

You have a faulty PCV valve. :happy2:
PCV won't show on VCDS, but will show other errors to point something else is wrong. Change the PCV and all will be well. The error codes will then be cleared by either a VCDS user or garage to clear the Emmisions control light error :happy2:
where do you live?

Thanks for the replies..... :happy2:
Seems the only to tell properly is to take it off. I can blow straight through it, the cap inside is moving about all over the place. Have a new one on order. So I'll give an update when I fit it. But now have a cracked engine cover!!! Boooooooo.
I have messaged someone on here for vagcom reading. I am living in Waltham abbey in Essex at the moment.
Anybody close?
Thanks again.

What petrol have you been using?

To be honest most of the time it's standard unleaded from tesco!! ;o(
I have now fitted the revision 'N' pcv. Seems to be spot on now. Going to get the codes read/cleared tomorrow. Richwig83 is going to do it.
Thanks for the help.
Will donate a tenner to the forum as Think it's really useful for things like this. ;o)

Tesco fuel doesnt help matters, in the past 2 weeks, ive cleared 3 cars with similar faults to your own, The exhaust emissions light was on... New fuel in and no more problems...
I heard of 2 more cars not the vag range having the same kind of faults, i'm putting it down to the fuel there using...
I'm no expert, but funny when all the cars are running on tescos fuel :fighting:

Could be the additives (or lack of) that they use??
