Sorry but not sure how to add the link or pictures but check out the Autocar website with official pictures and specs of the new S3
VERY impressive numbers for performance, economy, weight and emissions
Conservative on the outside, stylish on the inside - a real wolf in sheeps clothing
My next car maybe in sportback style once prices for used ones stabilise in a year or two

296 bhp :jumping:
-
someones comment on that thread.... "its a piece of stale bread with a chilli on top" I dont totally disagree with that! id probably have one though!
-
Nice :happy2:
As usual "official consumption" figures show 41 mpg !
Why do they quote these ridiculous figures ?
Seen some New Ferraris quoting 25mpg too
-
Quite like that S3. Definitely on the wish list for a few years time!
Nice :happy2:

Because this is how crappy euro testing works. On an RR with no traffic or drag. It favours turbocharged engines and hybrids which is why loads of them have been made recently even though in the real world they're not all that economical. Also car manufacturers also tweak their cars to be good at the tests, which does not equate to being economical in real life.
-
It's quite nice, still conservative which makes me think it's the "cooking" version of the fast range and another mainstream RS will follow.
-
Liking the fact that the S3 has 296bhp, does this mean the new Golf R will have 297bhp std?
Price for S3 likely to be around £35K?, surely thats ex demo RS3 money :signLOL:
Looks a plain jane to me, not a fan, but then I was never fond of "The Golf in a fur coat" anyway
Emmissions at 159 look good tho and they seem to have adapted the RS4 exhaust valve system using a switch and the exhaust is Audi version of the BCS powervalve :signLOL:
-
Imagine what sort of weapon this will be with a remap. As usual I expect VAG will build in a safe tolerance that allows aftermarket tuners a bit of a play. 340 hp anyone after a stage 1
I really like the interior as a special place be. Reminds me of my mk2 TT but this will be in a more practical hatchback
No mention of prices which is a bit worrying so would not be surprised to see the 2 door manual starting about £31k
-
It's something i could get used to, like all the new cars when they 1st come, i'm never to sure then it grows on me
-
can't make my min dup on the exterior, something just isn't right. interior seems awesome though

Could get a second hand V8 Vantage for that type of money! :jumping:

Aye probably but servicing/running costs are likely MUCh cheaper on the S3 :signLOL:
-
i like it! Hopefully the steering feel will be much better than on the old s3! Stage 2 should see around 400ish bhp! :rolleye:
Paul
-
its ok. my money would still go on the M135i :jumpmove:
-
Mine would go on the Golf R for same money :signLOL:
-
golf r is well nicer so is the rs3. but 296bhp std is good :happy2:

Really, quad tailpipes
-
Really, quad tailpipes
Yes very tacky and Ripspeed chav.
-
Impressive figures but externally very boring.
-
Who cares how many exhaust tips it has.
159 Co2, 296 bhp, 41mpg or mid 30's in real life normal driving and a focussed/smart classy interior - and an exterior that does not shout about its intentions
-
Really, quad tailpipes
Yes very tacky and Ripspeed chav.
And the net has been cast!

Don't tell me we have someone round here with quad tailpipes?!
-

Er, people interested in buying it...
-
are you really not going to buy a car with a host of positive features because it has 4 tailpipes and not two !!!
I wonder about peoples priorities sometimes
It hasn't stopped anyone around here buying Mk5 GTi's even though they have crap head units and speakers (as one of many examples)

Different people, different priorities. I care more about how a car looks than how it's stereo sounds.
-
TBH i never even noticed how the exhaust looked, it is not on my list, altho will say its a pretty bland looking car, will make a great sleeper with 400hp :happy2:
Altho I did spot that comes with the crappy auto handrake, so expect lots of trips to Audi and be on 1st name terms with the breakdown service :signLOL: :signLOL:
-
You guys are dreaming if u think she'll get 400bhp even at stage 2+ :rolleye:
-

I don't dream anything about S3's
I never said it would make 400hp either :signLOL:
-
i really hate the current audi styling trend with the swage lines on the rear wings tampering downwards as just makes the side look plain odd
new A3s are quite bland and anonymous, lets be honest best A3 will be a tdi engined one
-
I'm in love with this thing to be honest. :notworthy:
-
You guys are dreaming if u think she'll get 400bhp even at stage 2+ :rolleye:
Really? The EA888 2.0T engines with the trick valves add 96bhp at Stage 1 (209 > 305)
-

if it makes 400hp that remapped rs3/ttrs power.
It will all be down to the turbo. I think you will most likely see a genuine 380hp at stage 2 plus, if we say the current k04 engines at stage 2 plus are at a genuine 350hp
-
Saw a new A3 on the road Monday, I had to double take to see what it was - looked really nice on the road, everything looks in moderation if you know what I mean, wheels looked large enough, body styling etc. DRL's is what I noticed first as I wondered what it was
-
A little bit blingy but I'd have one TBH. Maybe needs a small tap with the lowering stick or bigger wheels, arches need filling IMHO. Really like the interior as well. :happy2:

The interior is awesome though. And at least she'll come with the new Sat Nav system that will probably be as good or better than the RNS510, much better than the current rubbish she has.
I thing the indicators in the DLR's will look great, but I noticed she doesn't come with fog lights?
-
I'd have it, quads or no quads.. Audi S4 and Mercedes C63 now classed as tacky or Ripspeed??

Yeah, it's a fairly plain looking family hatchback with a 4-cylinder engine - with quad exhausts! The C63 is a thunderous V8 super saloon. It looks ridiculous, there's nothing aggressive about the car, then you get round the back and it has four shotguns!
-

Mrs w has confirmed one of these won't be replacing the Pirelli lol

No, an S4 has a 3.0 Supercharged V6 in it! You're comparing chalk and cheese mate.
-
I'm liking that, hoping the S3 sportback looks good as I don't like the styling on the A3 sportback

Hook baited but only nibbles from smaller fish up until now. :innocent:
-
I assume this engine has been re-developed since its release on the mk6 gti? Or is this a different engine completley? Would I be correct in saying this engine also has the timing belt replaced with a chain? What are the benefits of this, longevity?
Are we likely to see a de-tuned version in the mk7 gti? Really looking forward to the mk7 gti, I hope it's not a dissapointment...

The quad pipes are a bit of an overkill!!
I'm the 1st one to say that the pipes on mine are really understated.
I think the new S3 should have had a MK6 GTi pipe setup, but larger diameter pipes, and the new RS3 should get the quad pipes. Just my opinion :innocent:

Im not a fan, maybe it will look better in the metal.
Another one for not a fan of the quads. Minus them it all looks a bit too 'normalish' too understated.

Is it just me or do those vents remind me of something? "EX.....TER....MINATE...EXTERMINAAATE!!!"
-
I love everything about that interior except the vents.
-
How come a flat bottomed wheel is optional?
-
How come a flat bottomed wheel is optional?
Flat bottom steering wheels have always been standard on the 8P S3 in the UK. I can't imagine this will be any different.
-
I've read on a few places, including Pistonheads, that it's optional. Don't know how accurate that is mind.
http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=26400
EDIT
It sort of says it in the press release too - http://m.autoblog.com/2012/09/21/audi-shows-third-gen-s3/
-
Considering that they don't even have UK prices yet and are basing all their information on the European car you can't draw too many conclusions. Amongst other things the Euro 8P had different alloy wheel choices, colour choices and could be had with a fabric interior and standard steering wheel so making assumptions based on the Euro spec car when it hasn't even been released would be doubly pointless.

Yeah, I know what you're saying (and agree), but that's the information on the Audi UK website also. You can't blame them for quoting that.

Incorrect, the first 8P S3s came with the regular wheel as standard and the FBSW as an option, iirc it was 2008/9 model year where it became standard :happy2:
Therefore it's reasonable to assume that Audi may well pull the same stunt again to milk more ££s out of the option list junkies...
-
Are you sure? I've never to date seen an S3 without it and for example I've never seen an S3 MFSW that wasn't flat bottom for sale on eBay either.

Absolutely sure
-
You learn something new every day.
Anyhow the FBMFSW is standard on the new S-Line anyway, so my money is still on it being standard equipment on the S3 too.
-
Did we already have this?

.
Is it really 296 bhp and not a misprint? :surprised:
That seems a lot out of an ex-factory 2.0T FSI engine and also more powerful than the RS3, IIRC.
-
RS3 is 340PS Robin. You didn't remember correctly. :P
-
^^^^
Then 296 bhp will be very nice. However, even though the build quality will doubtless be good, I don't find myself at all excited by its body styling.
-
You love the zorsts though right?
-
And thats how you ruin a S3 from the factory.. :congrats:
-
You love the zorsts though right?
....I don't have a strong feeling either way but would prefer if they were black like mine and therefore were less obvious.
A Golf mule, rumoured to be a mk7 R, has been seen with quad exhausts too.

no they haven't , up until the face lift at 2008 they were an option, quite an expensive one at that

Quite like the sportback S3 version

They're actually Audi Press shots, but of an A3 Sportback. I just didn't notice.

....My mistake then.
The images just help to show how the A3 and S3 body styling differences are so lacking. (IMO)
-
2:48 / 3:36 - nice S-tronic change exhaust burb
-
Also a video of the Sportback &feature=relmfu - not an S3 still as guess there isn't one yet
-
Audi have been very lazy with the styling on the both exterior and interior. It looks like a bigger version of the A1.
