Just watching 5th gear and rtech are on it testing different petrols and performance gains with each type. :happy2:
Repeated now on discovery +1
-
what channel was it on?
Could you watch it on the net
-
Discovery channel.
-
Just seen that. Thought I recognised the main man on the dyno
-
Interesting results.
Vpower wins be interesting how this test would work on a remapped car

Dont understand why they used Esso and not Tesco 99??

Dont understand why they used Esso and not Tesco 99??
Probably a conflict of interests somewhere along the line.

LOL, I guess they didn't want Tesco getting the best performance figures! :rolleye: :driver:

When I was at R-Tech Nick was telling me that a few days before (week maybe) they had the 5th Gear crew along doing the test to be aired later in year, he also asked about Momentum 99, I think he said they may do another one and include it, it would be good to see how V power compares to Momentum 99 (Which is usually 2-3p per litre cheaper before you even consider the 5p off per litre vouchers tesco periodically offer), I have a sneaky feeling Momentum might come out on top :happy2:
Loved it when she talked about Ron ratings and quoted V Power at 98 :signLOL:, either she was wrong or lots of folks on here are wrong (I always thought it was 98 same as when branded Optimax).
-
Wiki...
In the United Kingdom and Denmark (where Super Unleaded must be a minimum of 97 RON), V-Power has a rating of 99 RON (whereas V-Powers' predecessor Shell Optimax was rated at 98 RON). There is one other 99 RON fuel available in the UK, namely Tesco MOMENTUM99.

I was a bit baffled by this too Nath.. Although judging by the minimal differences, I very much doubt it would of been significant..
What we all wanted to see was a Stage 2+ ED35 and the same test  Think the difference would of been far greater..
So how many people on here have now had partners, parents and mates (who have no interested in cars) now saying "told ya it was a waste of money and makes no difference" :fighting:

I think with modified cars being in the minority it was good to do it on Std car, shows how minimal the gains are (1.3% or 3bhp), on modified cars it would not not be fair as most maps/tuners map to 98/99 fuel :happy2:
-
5bhp extra for V Power compared to Standard unleaded? Thats not so bad really - I remember one of my mates spent about £300 on a superchip for a N/A Mitsi Lancer GTI and got about the same performance gain!

I thought it was 136.9 for the crappy unleaded (137.4 for the better unleaded) and 140.3 for V power (3.1bhp).

But annoyingly she failed to mention the gains in mgp and just harp on about the power. My car certainly runs smoother and goes further on a 99 Octane fuel.

I take it the test measured purely performance gains, not economy gains?
