Hi guys,
Just paid a deposit on a 2006 GTI, which I will pick up this saturday. The car is fully loaded, xenons, leather, sat nav, pdc etc. It has the sat nav, but i could not test it as their is no disc. I want to get a disc before i pick it up, but wondering which one I need? Is it a dvd or cd?
This is the actual unit. Also where can I but the dsic from?
Many thanks!

That's not a VW supplied sat nav so can't help...
-
Hi, that is a standard sat nav from vw. I've seen others cars with them. I'm not sure what disc it takes. Thanks
-
I think its a cd-rom based nav unit. Mfd2 unit iirc.
-
Genuine VW headunit, just an old one. Part number is 1K0 035 198 B. As above its an MFD2 unit. Think they were DVD's?? Not sure though.
Type that part number into google and search away.
Have a look at this one, might be the one, on eBay.....

I think it is a DVD version as it has the chrome buttons

Yours is definitely the CD version of the MFD2. The DVD version is the one I have sitting in a box here and has silver buttons along the bottom and top, whereas yours are black. Like the one below:

The dealer said it takes DVD. Is the link I sent ok to try?
-
Ok, my mistake then, my research in the past pointed to the silver button one being DVD, while the black button one was CD. Whereabouts are you. Perhaps find someone local who has the DVD disc and try it first. If you're close to me, you're welcome to pop round and try.
-
there are 3 versions of the mfd
2004 cars had black buttons, including the dials. CD map
2005 - 2007 Chrome on/off button and zoom dials. other buttons were black. uses DVD map
2007 Chrome and silver buttons. Uses DVD map

Thanks for the offer, but haven't picked up the car yet. The car is a one owner car from new and the dealer has reassured me that the sat nav will work, but I just wanted to try before I brought it home.
Do you think if I buy the disc I sent a link for (£9.99) is suitable? Worse case I loose a tenner
-
that map for £10 is for the RNS510, so useless for the mfd2

Thanks Eddie, that makes it much clearer. Makes sense now.
