Small update..

Well ive had the car just over a month now and the slippery slope has finally started :ashamed:.

I was originally going to go stage 1 , but quite enjoying the car as it is.

But one thing that definatley needs some attention are the brakes, they are pants and look so weeny sat behind the pescys!

Also i think the car just needs to sit a little lower to finish it off.

Soooo....

Car booked in tommorow for :

Front brake upgrade (TT's upgrade)
H&R springs

All work to be carried out courtesy of Statllers.

Then the cars booked in for a full detail on wedneasday.

And then thats it......( i really dont need to get it mapped   !!!)

Small update...

Ive finally bit the bullet and took advantage of the Revo discount offer and decided to have Stage 1 Re-map and DSG st2 map put on the car .
Really chuffed with the results, completley transforms the cars performance , although not the best conditions at the moment  :driver:

This is how the car sits at the minute ...(pic slightley tweeked on photobucket  :ashamed:)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fn552%2Fjoffgas%2Fphoto_zpsbdeef987-1_zps1c5c9738.jpg&hash=a51b7b10f3f950824692f3f9f9edfa2b6e847405)

So the curerent mods are:

Stage 1 map
Stage 2 DSg map
25mm drop on springs
TTs front brake upgrade

So you could say im on the slippery slope again

So what would you guys do next ?????

Ive got some spare £££ burning a hole in my pocket ??????????

looking good so far very nice

an intake if you dont already have one? would always be nice. i went for neuspeed p flow on my ed 30, then maybe turbo back system and your stage 2 ready  :happy2:
Or i'd probably say a WALK kit and maybe some ARB's would also be nice dependant on budget.

Cheers Rhys,

Im thinking the car needs a bit more noise really so im probably going to go down the TBE route with an intake, although im not sure what intake is best, i had am evoms on my last ed30 and the noise from the inside of my car was a bit too much far me so i may need to do a little research.

Excuse my ignorance , but what is a WALK ???

Fair enough cant beat a nice soundtrack to go with the edition 30   I liked the neuspeed pflow one as it just suited my price range at the time and having been speaking with the guys at aersome it holds its own as far as power is concerned with the forge etc at double the p flow  price.  The itg is very impressive for power but then again people do say its a little noisey too.  The walk is a whiteline anti lift kit. http://www.awesomegti.com/car/vw/golfmk5/whiteline-anti-lift-kit-golf-mk5-mk6
excellent bit of kit, i did mine when i polybushed the front along with new ARB's so cant exactly tell you what its like on its own!! but with all the bits i did it made a massive improvement in handling and turn in feel.

I only know him from taking my car there for a wash/detail , seems a decent guy tho and does a pretty decent job from what i can tell.

He's got an Impeza and and Evo 7 in his unit , both look very well looked after motors.

I think his Mrs is the impreza , and she tracks it  :driver:

yeah the impreza is rach's and she certainly uses it how it should be!  :driver:

the evo 6 is craigs. both very clean and looked after.

think i saw your car on his fb page, looked familiar

Very nice! Great Ed30 you have there.
Trying not to mod mine either - brakes are definitely what I want to do first (have the R32 discs from & rear bought already, saving for the calipers) - was a bit let down by the performance of the brakes when I went to Donington in December. Did you notice the extra weight of the brake upgrade much?

I saw the Revo offer - was sorely tempted, but the car still feels pretty quick enough for me now, and have a few other preventitive maintenance things I want to do first (cam follower, coils, etc). How do you think it has changed yours - mostly mid range or top end punch?
Is the DSG map worthwhile? Feels pretty quick to me already, so can't comprehend what a mapped one is like!

Well its been a while and I've been spending a few £££ on the old gal making her go a little bit faster , so I thought id do a small update.

So the new mods are as follows:

3" de-cat down pipe
3" BCS cat back powervalve system (ceramic black tips)
Evoms induction
Loba hpfp
Stage 2+ revo software

So with all the mods done I went on a lads weekend away to Bug Jam and managed a few runs ,best time I managed was 13.7 , was struggling to get traction , once I did get grip the car felt pretty quick with a terminal speed of 106 mph  :driver:

So with the performance side of things done I now I plan to get the Handling side of things sorted, so will be doing a bit of research on here and asking a few questions to you guys.

I also made the Mrs take a little video of a drive by at the weekend to see what a chav I sound like

Thanks for looking  :happy2:

Handling stuff etc

CUT

Yeh get the handling sorted! Will be wicked. Get a ALK kit, I noticed the handling difference overnight. Got my roll bars f/r done aswell and again, the difference! Wow! Been chucking my golf into corners at some speed and really happy. Decent set of coilovers/springs help ofcourse! Deffo worth if you got power. I'm beating my mates S3 in corners now, which never really happened before!

I'm in the process of getting a shopping list together now, but I don't have any real knowledge of handling
upgrades  :ashamed:

So what exactly do you have on your motor??  :happy2:

I'm not a expert but I based my decision on what i've learnt (through eperience of spinning/mitigating my own problems) and what's on here.
At the moment i've got SuperPro ALK kit to the front suspension/console buses. An ALK kit, by it's very, will act to prevent any forces attempting to lift the car on, for example cornering/acceleration. The car therefore sits lower to the road when otherwise it would be raised slightly, has more grip because of the increased weight/mass and grips as a result. Simply better handling. ALK kit is a generic name but nonetheless do the same job. Could go on about positive caster/geometry etc etc but depends on how gripey you want it to be - although there will be a aspect of this. If you do i'll get my uni notes out!

Then roll bars. I like this video and demonstrates the potential benefits:

With roll bars, the bigger/thicker the front, the more understeer, but opposite for the rear (ie: the bigger/thicker the bar, the less understeer).
Loads of roll bars out there. Buy a set, front, rear, whatever. You then need to decide what settings you want depending on your driving style.
The difference is pretty crazy really.

One thing on my evergrowing list of changes to my golf, is to eventually polybush all my bushes. Just like the ALK kit, they all add to counter any lifting forces. Overall they tighten everything up, if anything a fresh bush compared to a 30/40/50,000 OEM bush just works better. Add it all together, everything is held in line and combined with other mods can give you masive benefits when on track or simply just wanting to corner fast.

The difference for was amazing. The ALK kit made soooooooooooo much difference. I left my car with Alex when I went off to do some training. Tbh, I was on the verge of giving up with it. The ride was awful and I didn't feel confident at all with it. I got back and drove home....just wow. Fresh set of coilovers helped clearly but you really feel it. The roll bars again just tighten everything up and help balance the car.

I've also got engine/transmission etc mounts which again help tighten everything engine etc wise up. Everything helps but above you'll feel the difference overnight.

:)

All of the above makes sense and sounds like it will give me what I'm after really ( fast road set up) , it will also be good to   get all that power down and under control

Time to count the pennies an get some costings

Great looking car and some good mods on board.

Ive got the BCS Powervlave Sport TBE and love it. Leaning towards the LOBA HPFP myself.

Some really good advice above from JONNYM too.  :happy2:

As mentioned, add a Superpro ALK and at least the front wishbone bushes along with a lower engine mount and doggone bush (torque link, small end), look at vibra technics for these. Personally I'd just do the rear Anti Roll Bar, look at either Autotech (my one is great) or H&R with some upgraded ARB bushes for it, such as Superpro.

Coilovers FTW, Bilstein B12 or B14 (for adjustability) or H&R springs are very good.

Don't forget your BBK too, its needed.  :happy2:

Cheers mate,

Also loving the POWERvalve too, proper well built piece of kit and sounds mega !!

At the minute got some Apex Springs on and the car just don't sit right , so wanna get the ride height spot on too.
So leaning towards something Bilstein

So i think  ive got my shortlist together now

Yeh I missed/didn't include stuff like lower mounts/dogbone bushes etc but picked up on by MC71 so thank you! Quite important really

Power to ground is so important, especially on the golfs as they don't put power down as well as they could. Too many people, across all the makes etc, think power power power, with no thought to anything else. If you go big power, what's going to stop you when you haven't slowed down enough for a corner? Will the clutch take the power....and indeed can the power from the engine physically get to the wheels to put down! LSD etc is something maybe to look aswell. Cheap nasty stuff will destoy your golf....my old JOM coilovers were rubbish, so quality stuff will make such a difference - stance it right and it will beneift you speed wise aswell! I have THS mounts and can deffo vouch for them!

This is all sorta stuff I did at uni and loved it, hence getting my teeth into it! I'm too keen sometimes  :innocent: It all adds up, so keep adding!

I just got my bumper back from the bodyshop and have a powervalve exhaust to go......just need to determine when it can go on!! I want noise

Just found this thread after you commented on mine knowing where I took the pics I was intrigued! Lovely ed30 mate the roads in the Peak District are great for a good drive arnt they! Similar car history to me also I came from an e46 m3 and an 07 dsg r32 before that. Ended up going with the gti to save on spending but I'm suprised how much fun it is!  Anyways il get off your thread now!
