I have been collecting some carbon bits for my Type 72 all year in the hope of adding some lightness. The realisation of cost after painting and the not much weight saved, has led me to look at the situation properly. Did some number crunching and realised i could get this car for not much more as the Type 72 is very popular at the moment. Really loved my First Exige, never thought i would sell it but i have and bought this.

This Gulf blue, Cup 260 is about as good as the S2 Exige can get. These are built for competition. Spec over and above what the Type 72 has.
* Shear panel linking the sub frame and chassis giving a more laterally stiffer chassis by 30%.
* Ohlins two-way adjustable dampers.
* Two piece brake discs.
* The lightest production wheels in the world, fronts 5.65kg, rears 7.75kg.
* Lightweight motorsport battery.
* Lighter rear sub frame.
* Light weight Fly wheel.
* Lightweight bulkhead.
* Lightweight Supercharger pipes.
* Carbon Roof.
* Carbon engine cover.
* Carbon front splitter.
* carbon rear wing.
* Carbon Side pods.
* Carbon access panels.
* Carbon dash and interior.
* Carbon seats.
* Interior and exterior electric cut off.
* plumbed in fire extinguishers with interior and exterior activation.
* 20 BHP more giving ( obviously 260 BHP ).
* overall weight saving of 38kg. total Curb weight of car 890kg.
* Power to weight ratio of 288 hp / tonne (291 PS / tonne).
First impressions are, it is a bit more industrial focused motor-sport feel. You can really feel the weight loss as a lot of it was high up on the car. It does not use fuel i have driven back from near Leatherhead, Surrey, back to Warrington yesterday, went for a blast today and the car has used about £30 of fuel.
I can describe the performance in one word. "Mental". :jumping:
-
Looks nice always loved these!
-
Looks SUPERB! I bet that is a right hoot to drive :party:
-
Outstanding :drool: :drool: :drool:
-
That is beautiful. Nice one.
-
I didn't think you would get rid of the Type 72 but that looks :drool:
Is the bat cave now due a colour change? :signLOL:
-
I think i prefer the look of the 72 but i guess this is gonna ticket more boxes in terms of track ability. :smiley:
Is it brand new? The discs look immaculate.

Yep! Colours clash now :P. Took me days to paint it as well. :sad1:

The 72 was defo a better looker for sure. :happy2: The discs will need changing soon Rich, they are quite worn. The hub section has been resprayed.
-
One word....Stunning! :drool:
Loved the Type 72, love this even more. :love:
-
Totally awesome :happy2: in a real kool colour too... With an option list as long as... Does it leave you with anything to do mods wise...
Health to enjoy Top Cat
:wink:
-
nice 1 pal, looks awesome, there was one of these at Anglesey last time we were there, it went very well :smiley:
-
Thats epic! Better on fuel than my derv! Lol!
-
That looks very smart, shame they didn't go this far with the Type 72 as that would have been the perfect combo!
Happy bedroom painting! :signLOL:
-
they look awesome fun ! this one looks stunning . . . :happy2:
-
If you fancy a free Dyno run (in exchange for a quick test drive) :wink:
-
awesome Mr Cat :happy2:
I actually prefer the looks/colour too
was behind your 'old car' thurs night, didnt realise itd be the last time Id see it :surprised:

Alright stranger. :happy2: You wont fit in. Big fire extinguisher passenger side, and less room for driving due to A-frame behind the seat. There is a slight chance if the roof was off. :P
Hows things. :happy2:
-
less room! crikey i could barely fit in the 72 (although Ive always fancied getting intimate with a fire extinguisher)
this one getting a 2/3rds sized front plate ? :pomppomp:
-
.
WOW !!
Only 890 Kg!! What's the engine in those?
We want to see better pics of her from you, TC! Those 2 pics don't quite communicate the car too well.
Cool number plate too. Plates which pay homage to the car rather than the owner are much better in my opinion. Nice one! :happy2:

I might do, just been looking at the plates thread in the MK5 section. It could do with a ickle one like yours. :party:

Engine is a 1.8 Toyota 2ZGE. great engine with a crap gearbox. :happy2: The pics were just point and shoot, though i am not sure how to make this colour look good on photos. It is quite neutral yet sticks out like a sore thumb. :chicken:
Looks good from above in this link a few pics down. :happy2:

I am thinking about going full Gulf colours in the spring. Something like this, maybe a bit more subtle if thats possible. :laugh:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/geralds_1311/5025316036/
-
.
I reckon that whichever livery you go for on this car it will never look subtle unless it's all in one sober colour without any markings whatsoever. But if you've got it, I say flaunt it and I think a proper Gulf livery could look better than it does now and also be extremely appropriate.
The existing black markings contrasting so strongly with that bright light blue are what makes it in yer face, but not in a bad way.
-
All the black markings are carbon so cant do to much with that. :pomppomp: I am not to worried about how this looks, much past my normal compulsive colour matching problems. This car is purely for driving pleasure. :driver:
-
Two Bath's one peanut! :laugh:
Hope I get to see this one. If the old one had a habit of frightening you I'd make sure you keep spare undie's in the glovebox on this one!! :wink:
-
Epic Mr Cat but I bet it was a sad goodbye to the 72.
-
Two Bath's one peanut! :laugh:
:grin:
It is one scary car, throttle wide open, its best described as being a passenger in Hurdy's Eddie. :rolleye:
Epic Mr Cat but I bet it was a sad goodbye to the 72.
I already miss it, and will regret it more probably in the future, :sad1:
-
I look forward to more of your own pics of this as the ones you mentioned above are :drool:
I definately think you should go all out in the Gulf livery! :happy2:
-
great car mr cat , but i loved the type 72 think ill be getting an exige when i get fed up of the elise , i think once you ve owned a lotus its hard to have any thing else , silverstone lotus have an exige in gulf colours :happy2:
its an elise but you get the idea

You are correct, i cant see myself in any other car unless i win the Lottery.
all the Gulf blue Exiges are the Club racer limited edition, they are very nice, nearly bought one myself when i first started looking. :happy2:
You have to be a bit of a masochist to buy an Exige for anything other than track work, the occasional weekend blast is ok but you soon get tired of them on the road. The Elise is not a lot different and ideal for the summer and weekends. :happy2:
-
i know what you mean even the elise can get a bit tiring on the road but did a track day at silverstone a few weeks ago and i fell in love with the car all over again
-
few of the guys from mloc are doing blyton on 14 th sept if your interested :driver:

I am fast but not that fast, i cant go back in time. :signLOL:
I take it you mean October. :happy2: I have a track day at Hethel on the 8th of October which finishes off my 6 insured days this year. :happy2:
-
yes sorry pal ment october , may be catch up with you on another track next year :happy2:
-
yes sorry pal ment october , may be catch up with you on another track next year :happy2:
Yes pal, defo. I am close to battening down the hatches for the year, but cant wait for next years already. :party: Anglesey, Cadwell, Blyton and Croft are all great circuits for Lotus. :happy2:
-
absolutely love it and get gulfing :driver:
-
i really want one of these now ! looks superb :drool:
-
Terrible. I'll have to drive it to be convinced otherwise.
I suppose there's no point trying to convince yourself that an Exige is anything but a race car with reg plates, so you may as well have a race car with reg plates. Good man maths!
Delicious. I'm off fantasy shopping. Again.
-
looking awesome pal, now get the paint out for the garage :) :signLOL:
-
Awesome!!!!! :love: :love: :love:
-
Had the car out for a good blast today. It is a big step up in all around performance from the last, i am quite surprised by the difference if i am honest. I guess it is all the upgrades working together.
It is a proper performance car that is for sure. (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Ftomashandmilly%2FDaft_stuff%2FBigSmile2.gif&hash=64cd829d85d6a74bddc44cb4086426599cd39d47)

Car looks sweet. I'm an ex-lotus owner so more than a little jealous!
-
Took a pic today.

-
Oh no no no! Very nice tc, however you defo need the interior designers back out! :wink:
-
.
That car really looks like it has a very big smile on its face! And I bet you are grinning from ear to ear too, TC!
I don't think the garage interior looks wrong at all - It is afterall in the traditional Lotus colours. I fear that if you match the garage interior decoration to the car, then it could look awfully twee - A bit like those matching shirt and tie fabrics of the 1970's. Don't let the tail wag the dog!
As it stands, you have a Lotus garage and you have a Lotus car which doesn't have to match, in my opinion.
[Btw, I am qualified as an interior and graphic designer and also studied architecture]
-
You could of course.....

But on second thoughts i quite like the new look. :innocent:

:signLOL:
-
Got discs on the shelf for that baby TC
Not much dinero either.....
-
Sent you a PM Pilot boy. :happy2:
-
I refuse to accept that this is going to not see a track till next year. Get it to Oulton...
-
Did one on Monday at Hethel. :innocent:
-
That's noice ! A take it its not worth modding this one then ? Bar perhaps a few bhp via map and hardware.
Is it noticeably quicker / better than the type 72 ?
I always thought when you were buying a top end exige there wasn't much to pick between them you just pick the colour that you like :laugh:
-
I am going to resist modding this one, :rolleye: I have my 2ublar exhaust on and will do the engine mount inserts next year, but apart form tarting up a few bits pads and fluids, this one should stay as is. Maybe improve the cooling which is a problem but Lotus did everything i possibly could have thought of.
This is a noticeably better all round performer than the Type 72. I havent learnt to drive it properly yet and a reckon i am a few seconds a lap faster that with the last one. :driver:
-
Very nice TC, I'll see you on track next year, should be good around Anglesey. I'm planning to do a whole day eventually :wink:
-
Got a new stereo for the car ( sort of ). Seeing as Lotus decided i didn't need one.

Amazon now thinks i am a gym bunny, they keep offering me cheap latex products now after buying the headphones through them. :rolleye:
I am defo getting old. I have been thinking how do they cram all that stuff into a credit card size gadget. :pomppomp:
-
I love these cars
Would love to see some Gulf Racing Stripes on this car.
-
Got some new Shiny shiny.
After 4 of my 6 track days being wet last year i needed some alternative tyres for the wet days. The Yoka A048's are fun in the wet but you soon get bored with the car twitching everywhere and aqua planing over 50mph. :scared:
So i have these wheels for these events. Team Dynamics Pro race 1.4 forged, specifically designed for Lotus and standard wheels on the 2009 Cup cars.
They are lovely wheels and should look great once on.

Delicious.
Are you doing all SELOC stuff this year, or do you fancy mixing it up again? Amongst others, were planning Anglesey on BH Mon May 27th. Will possibly involve camping, beer and BBQ too.
-
I am at Anglesey on Good friday for the first one of the year. My problem is i have run out of insured days until May. :rolleye:
-
.
Very excellent wheels :notworthy: Titanium colour - Will still look good even when covered with brake dust and dirt.
-
Love those TC... much more stylish then the 1.2s :happy2:
-
those wheels are pure filth :drinking:
-
That is the definition of "wheel porn".
:notworthy:

those wheels are pure filth :drinking:
This ^
But if driving with them in the wet may I suggest some tyres to go on them too! :innocent:
-
Love this! :congrats: I have been looking at exige s2's the last couple of weeks. Was thinking it might be cheaper to buy an elise and put a k20 in it.
-
looks good mate, think ive done an exige with these wheels on before, im sure they will look lovely on your lotus ;)
-
:drinking:
Love this! :congrats: I have been looking at exige s2's the last couple of weeks. Was thinking it might be cheaper to buy an elise and put a k20 in it.
I have been out in a few K20 Exiges and Elise's and they are superb, it is a much better engine and feels great in the cars. Very expensive conversion though.

Probably better to get one thats had the conversion done then ? I have seen a few up for sale on piston heads with the k20's in them and im sure i even seen one with a 1.8bam engine. Fun cars to drive they don't need mega bhp. Going to go try a few standard ones out. I bet the cup is just awesome though. Slightly out my price bracket.
-
Love it, Ill own another exige s again one day
-
Awesome :happy2:

Can I be in your club!
This is what I drive when I am not in the golf

Love these pics. :party: Welcome over here MR Tegra. :happy2:
I knew it was you - do I know you from SELOC or OcUK?
Did a search earlier on but could not work it out ?
PS . . . . that is the only Exige I have seen so far that is as sexy as mine. I though :star:t it was on the Club Racers that came in that blue.
Pure yummy
-
I know you from Seloc. :happy2:
I believe this blue is slightly different to the the Club Racer Blue ( or so i have been told ). I think this is the only Gulf blue Cup in the Country.

-
Beautiful car TC, bet shes a bloody handful! Has to be the most fun on four wheels. Also love those new shoes, if theyre for the wet i pray for rain soon so we can see pictures of them on :happy2:
-
It has been a busy couple of weeks for my Exige. I have my first track day of the year tomorrow at Anglesey :pomppomp:. So the car has had a service full Geo done including corner weighting and Ohlins adjusted. Engine mount inserts fitted and i have refitted the Forge intercooler again, but this time i have added a 211 intercooler shroud and some 4inch ducting straight down to some wider Reverie side-pods.

Looks like the weather at Anglesey is going to be sunny and dry so no need to fit the new wheels and tyres.
I dont know why Lotus fitted these main beam spot lights on these last Exiges, :fighting: they are low down and a fooker to change if they break with stone chips, so i have decided to protect them with some Laminex.

Its the Costal circuit Gaz. I prefer this one to be honest, the long straight and hairpin are boring in the Exige. :happy2:

I reckon your car could do with some Time Attack aero mods :innocent:
Front splitters are so overrated. A front wing is where its at!!

Ha! I have been following that car, they hired a wind tunnel for testing. The new big BHP engine failed after a couple of laps at the weekend. :sad1: it was one of the overall fastest cars last year in Time Attack and it only had 300 odd BHP.

Looks ridiculous :grin: Only just realised it has a front splitter as well, and that black suburu in the background is masking the actual size of the rear wing!! :scared: Thats some monster Aero mods.
