Hi, found out today that coilpack recall is outstanding on my car 2006 GTI.
At present my car is running well, no starting issues, idles fine & accelerates well. Is there any point it getting this done? does there need to be a failure or signs of failure before VW will replace them? Or will they just replace all four anyway as part of the recall?
Cars done 72k.

All free of charge, your VW dealer will inspect which versions of coilpacks you are currently running and replace only those which are older than a defined revision #, regardless of how many of them.
It's a no-brainer to have them upgraded as needed.

....I don't know for certain but if Ireland comes under the area covered by VW UK, then yes. I'm sure a phone call will confirm.
VW service history always helps but I don't think it's a requirement for this AFAIK. It's always going to help if you have a friendly relationship with your VW dealer.

hi guys, i just phoned vw, just give the service dept your chassis number and they wil tell you if there is any recalls at all for your car, mine is an 08 gti and there was no recalls needed, takes 1 minute

i see you add that your dealer will inspect all your coil packs and change if necc ? but all i done was gave them my chassis no and they immediatelly told me i was ok ? surely that is all that is needed here

Thats what I did and they said it was outstanding. VW said "book it in and we will take a look at whats needed"....those were there exact words.
Makes me think if all is well they wont bother replacing any.

part no of revised coilpacks ends in an 'f'. Old ones, if get wet can be prone to setting the car on fire. Dont want to alarm you though. If you are running a map make sure you tell them you dont want any updates or it will probably remove your map

Definitely worth getting this recall done
Nearly all GTIs and R32s are affected
Basically the engine cover is removed and the part number of each coil pack is checked
If the part number falls into a certain category the coil is changed
In my experience most mk5 GTIs end up getting 4x new coil packs free of charge
VW dealer also give the car a once over check " VHC "

Your VIn number has the year of manufature and later years wouldnt be affects so I guess they knew from the year?

IIRC it's only cars up to 2007 that care affected

This forums so useful. I never knew this. Mines an 06, rang vw this morning and there are no recalls out standing on mine. Bonus!
As previously said, took about a minute this morning, gave the lady my reg and hey presto. Nice quick service :happy2:

Yes got mine done and tbh, didnt notice any difference. I dont think its about performance more of a safety issue with the old ones catching fire. Simple process and the VW garage near me (St Andrews) are very good.
