Got a traxxas e revo vxl a year ago. Was an impulse buy - just couldn't resist! Twin batteries and brushless motor good for 50+mph!!

What did you go for, Nitro or Battery?

I love em! I have 2, one Thunder Tiger EB4 S2 Pro dual start, fully moded with a .28 engine running on 30% nitro fuel. It has a uprated LSD, full spring and damper race set up, sway bars, hi speed/torque Hi Tec servo's and Nova Rossi exhaust and manifold. Tis a quick one but a wee bit temperamental when starting.

The other one is in bits...  :sad1: ran it into a tree at about 40mph and not got round to fixing it, too many hobbies  :signLOL:

After reading your OP, I have been scoping the interweb for the Avante and have just come across the Black Edition. Not sure what's different from the Avante. Looks like a really well made kit, hell of a lot more useable than mine and more friendly in the local park i bet.Did you get it through eBay, seen some on there at that price.

Love the truggy, my brother in law has that model, big engine and bigger tyres!  :happy2:

Nice one Dan, you'll really enjoy building it.

I used to race nitro RC cars, until about a year and a half ago. Just ran out of time. We even had Lewis Hamilton come spend a race day at my local club with his brother Nicholas who races for Kyosho. Seems he hasn't lost his touch from when he did it as a kid.

Electric has been making a huge comeback now over the past few years with Lipo packs and brushless technology. The torque on those is amazing, but it all seems a bit dull and soulless with no smoke and noise, lol. Not sure how the Avante would hold up to a high power lipo/brushless setup though. I still have an original Tamiya Technigold motor which in the day was the Daddy.

Not so much an issue these days with 7000-10000mah Lipo batteries available (7000mah battery should give you a good 30-40 mins on a std buggy  :happy2:), My RC plane (Addiction 3D) gets around 20mins when flown at WOT or 30 mins of gentle acrobatics, my other plane (VERY fast) gets around 16 minutes and thats about all I need, at the speed it does your mentally done anyway!  :signLOL:

I used to race 1/10th electric indoor back in my teens, had a couple of Schumachers (Cougar and Top Cat) and then an Associated RC10, used to do okay in the BRCA northern leagues but funds were limited for this school boy back in 1992-3 and you needed a good few quid spending every year to stay competitive.

A mate of mine carried on racing (when I found girls and beer) and I think he's rated as one of the best in the UK if I get my facts straight, 1/8th nitro, think he's sponsered by Losi??

I bought a 1/8th Nitro second hand last summer but only had it out once because I felt a bit daft stood on the street with neighbours glaring!!

And I've also got a TT01 tamiya based Subaru in the wardrobe as well (with a 16T motor installed for good measure!), just waiting for my son to grow some more so I can blame him for all my big boys toys but he's only 3 months old yet so I don't think that excuse would wash!

Nice one Danny, I think I am going to get myself and the kids a Wild Willy 2 for Xmas.

I started off years ago with a Wild One, maybe 1985?

I have had a few:

Hornet
Kyosho Optima Sport
HPI Savage XL with an OPS 50 engine, mental thing that was
1/18th micro with brushless, even more mental
RC10 nitro

And others I can't remember.

All modded :signLOL:

I cut my engineering teeth building them.

A really good way to see how things go together and work.

Hurdy, did you mean Optima Pro like this http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=77934&id=21969 or Turbo Optima like this http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=111966&id=10490 as Kyosho never made an "Optima Sport"  :happy2:

I built 3 Optima pro's from new parts (from my stock) and sold them all and also built 5 Turbo Optimas from new parts (I had a quiet few weeks 2-3 years ago  :happy2:), what with Tamiya re-releasing everything (and de-valuing "Vintage" Tamiya buggies) the old Kyosho Buggies have been steadily increasing in value over the last 6 years!.

I got back into R/C cars a few weeks ago. Went to see a mate race down the local track.... Ended up leaving with a 1/8 nitro stock car!

I've done one meeting, of which I couldn't get it round the corners! Got one this weekend, have a bit of a set up and tyre swap and see how I can do!!

Used to go to a few RC shows 7 or 8 years back, got to meet Ali Machinsky and Christophe Paysant La Roux (World champs in various styles, 3D and Jets) what those guys cannot do with a RC plane ain't worth knowing, it's mad to see Jet Turbine RC planes with a 5ft wingspan fly past at 270+mph (Those things cost upwards of £10 Grand!!!!) and even funnier watching a guy prop hanging an RC plane 2 feet in front of himself (took me months to be able to do 10% of what those guys can do  :happy2:).

Lots of metal parts means higher costs, you can get one from HK for £225 Shipped, these re-re's are easy money for the collector scene (this is what prompted them to re-release, seeing the prices they fetched), I bought a Sand Scorcher  from a supplier year back for £35, sold it to a Collector in Europe (cannot remember where) for best part of £2K.

So a re-re costing £190 is pretty cheap  :signLOL: :signLOL:

I would love one of those Toyota Hilux 4x4's with the 3 speed tranny. They are so awesome. Is it me, or do they have far more plastic on them than before? I remember the original ones having steel frame chassis and all steel diffs, seems like the new ones are plastic or am I mistaken?

They are more plastic than originals, lots of metal parts replaced with parts from a previous re=re, one of the poorer examples of their re-re that one, the Bruiser looks better altho decals (again) are poo!!

I told the supplier to put a fake receipt with lower value for customs just incase I do get stung by them..

You get a esc & a s##t motor but most probably you would change the motor..all u need is radio gear like most kits do..

Most HK sellers habitually mark items as 15-20% of ACTUAL value (It is one of the many reasons why UK model shops struggle as it SO much cheaper to import items), most of their customers are Australians, Brits and Mainland Europeans where they get raped by customs, the HK shops do this to keep customers coming back, if you dont like this buy from UK (at 50% more), if you think you pay enough taxes already buy from HK  :ashamed:

http://www.stellamodels.com.hk

Super-Hotshot (Supershot Re-Re) which is basically a Hopped Up Hotshot (4 shocks instead of 2, gold wheels and underguard, different body and decals, everything else is the same)  :happy2:

The decals that come with it are OK, but if you want to make it look like the original Supershot you need only add an original Supershot decal set:-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tamiya-9495064-RC-Supershot-ORIGINAL-Sticker-Decal-58054-X9722-/370633858408?pt=UK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN&hash=item564b7fdd68

the guy selling the decals is a complete tool  :booty:, but he does have some good stuff now and again  :happy2:

Used to be able to get decent reproduction decals for Supershot (£9) but not available anymore  :sad1: (The repro from bjmodels on Ebay are not worth the vinyl they are printed on)  :signLOL:

If you want Uprated wheels you need 84280 wheels (Original Vanquish Wheels) and 84281 tyres (Original Egress Tyres), you will also need the Hex clamp adaptors 53569

I might treat myself to a tamiya lancia intergrale but not sure if the gearbox will hold up to a brushless motor

The DF03RA chassis Lancia will handle brushless better than the TT01 chassis Lancia, I ran a Novak Velociti 6.5T Brushless in a DF03RA with no issues  :happy2:

Change my mind, might get a tamiya golf Gti cup kit instead, will the gearbox on this cope with a brushless motor?

I used to race nitro truggy's and my kit cost well over that. Just the car alone without engine or anything was £400, then the engine another £300 to £450 depending on which one, I got around 5 engines, then the two servo's in my car are around £120 each, then the exhaust which is around £ 60 to £80. You then need a good few sets of tyres which were around £60 a set of 4.

On top of that you still need the radio system, mine was around £300 iirc. Then you still need all the other gear to run the darned thing, starter box with batteries, another £125 or so, tools, fluids, fuel, etc. etc. Was quite an expensive hobby.
