Title: DSG Dual Mass Flywheel - where to buy ?
Post by: PaulGTI on October 03, 2012, 07:53:44 pm
Hi all, does anyone know where I can buy a DSG dual mass flywheel ? Apart from the dealers, they are £500 ish plus Vat. I've seen on some forums that LUK make them but can't find where to get one. Any help appreciated, cheers

Gsf supply Luk parts. I'm sure they could get one for you.

I called PSI Tuning, who were very helpful and nearly got one for me but were told by Luk that they now have an agreement with VW and only supply it to them  :sad1:

GSF couldn't get it either, but the TDI one is available which is weird

Cool, I'm looking to do mine myself so just hoping to get the part for a good price if I can

Euros don't list one for the dsg on their site.  Last time I tried to order one for a dsg, a manual flywheel kept turning up.  Their system always suggests a manual flywheel for a dsg car, even if you order off the reg.

Mine has a slight rattle and noticeable knocking / whine at low revs ( I think it's always there but just more noticeable at slow speed as there's not much road noise) but my gear changes are smooth and no performance loss at all.

The thing that worries me is the vibration of the DMF having an adverse affect on the splines and shaft of the DSG internals

.
Surely any audible vibration or 'rattle' of the DMF is not normal in the DSG and therefore needs attention?

Yeh definitely, it seems a common failure on early cars (2005 & 2006) I think. Vw then upgraded them to stronger ones.

I did a DSG oil change (fairly easy to do) in my early diagnosis to see if it would help but didn't. Which led on to me investigate some more and come up with the DMF. A good way to check if its worn is to take off the starter motor (and battery tray so you can see what your doing) then try and move the front / first part of the flywheel and if its worn it will move and the second part behind it will stay still (the part with the teeth that the starter motor turns). There will be a little bit of play as standard though which I think is roughly 10-15mm, anymore and it's probably worn and if it rattles back and fourth then it's definitely gone. Hope the info helps anyone in the future.

That is helpful, Paul  :happy2:

My Mk5 GTI is a 05-build, 06-spec now at 104k miles with no audible signs of this issue so far.

82k 2007 and been like it since 65k at least! Alex at AKS noticed it.

TBH I would want the LSD done while the 'box is out so it can wait.

I need to find another cheap DSG box as well first.

Not to bothered, it works :rolleye:

....You're just looking for any excuse to get a LSD

I'm sure you already know that it's a great mod even if relatively expensive.

I went out in the 'Blue Devil' at AKS the other week and yes it was good.

But I also realised how good mine is set up to.

Alex said it handled quite well so a LSD will just add to my setup.

There is one really serious problem that  I have to negotiate first.............................NO MONEY!

And the fact that I want/need a Turbosmart E-Boost 2 and AEM WMI first.

Plus a DSG service and a service.

Injectors fitting.

Baby due.

Shall I go on?

quite hard to explain the symptons.....it only did it when the gearbox was in neutral or not under load , and it was like a juddering noise coming from the box.The pattern was never the same, Sometimes it would do it 4 times sometimes 2......i did a load of searching on the net and found a video on youtube with the same noise as mine. When i took it into awsome for a cambelt change they told me it was on its way out . Hopes this helps....not a great explaination really .

Thanks for trying mate, but its a little on the expensive side for me at the moment.

Im thinking the other options are a LUK one shipped from the US or Germany. Works out at an ok price
