Title: Poor Idle
Post by: ArildStavrum on October 05, 2012, 09:18:24 am
My car has developed a poor idle, its intermittent but often and only once the car is warm when sitting at lights the idle is awful although the rev counter barely moves, it almost feels like the engine is about to die.  If i give the accelerator a touch it seems to sort it out until i pull up atr the next set of lights.

Now I have tried the PCV test that i read after doing a search and the engine runs immediately horrendously when i remove the oil cap.
I think that is what it is supposed to do.

Im having my diverter valve changed (to a G) next week and was going to get the PCV changed too as its not an expensive job (i dont think) but also wondered if it was a fuel issue - maybe the fuel filter is gubbed?

Any info would be most appreciated!!

cheers

Its hard to tell mate , it could be a dirty injector , a dying spark plug, dying coilpack, fuel filter, pcv amongst other thing.

Wish i could be more helpful.

Not trying to hijack from the OP but do the same causes also effect TDi's as I have an occasional lumpy idle that's getting on my nerves a little !

Thanks :)

Ref the lumpy idle, had a Powerflex dogbone insert fitted a few wks ago, the car is MUCH better now, and for 20 quid or so, cant go wrong, trust me on this one!!!!

Have your car scanned - there will be someone close by with the correct VCDS software which will point more accurately to your problem.

Reuben at Tuningwerkes scanned my car recently when I had poor and erratic idle and within seconds knew my PCV valve was kaput.  May be the same with yours but the scan will be more definitive.
Where are you?

Hi mate,

I had the car scanned and the only fault was the diverter valve, it was cleared, we went out a spirited drive scanned again and no fault came up. I'm still going to get the DV changed and will get the pcv done too I think.

It's just annoying....plus a worry as I hate when something isn't quite right.

I'm in Wimbledon.
