Do you need any settings changed through vagcom to use these, or is it just a straight forward swap over of the actual headlights?
-
You need VCDS coding plus different plug connectors.
Do you have the headlight washers and levellers already as these are necessary for the car with xenon's to pass the MOT.

I thought the levellers were built into the headlight? No I don't have the washers yet, need to price them from VW still.
-
Levellers aren't built into the headlight :sad1:
You will be able to pass your MOT without levellers and washers, but it isn't strictly legal if you ever get pulled over etc...

I take it all the above can be aquired from a VW dealership?
-
Yes they can but for getting it all set up correctly is really IMO too expensive...
-
Yea I agree with bacillus, the price gets ridiculous!

You need some sensors that are placed on the axle which connect to the leveller mechanism.

Drop JPC a PM as he's done this on his Soot Chucker! :happy2:

There was a mod on the Mk4 which involved enabling a couple of repair wires on to the standard kufatec adaptors which enabled the leveling rheostat on the dash to control the levelling motor in the xenons. The wiring mod was in the headlamp itself - anybody done it on the Mk5???
-
I am considering a Hids4U kit. Not sure if anyone has gone down this route.
-
I've just bought the wiring from kufatec for the autolevelling, only doing it because i got the sensors for the axles included with rear ed30 fender with also has parking assist built in it. hopefully getting it done soon

Anybody brave enough to hack away at some MK5 Xenons, its almost as wreckless as the Mk4 "Joey Mod" which involved seperating the glass from the housing and painting the inserts black, we need a wiring guru to see if the mod is the same and may work. I had this done to my Mk4 and it worked an absolute treat.
A starting point may be if the Mk5 kufatec adaptors are the same as Mk4 ones

Here's a quote from their site:
Technical for HID Conversion Kits
Please remember that it is your responsibility to ensure that the items purchased are suitable for your vehicle make/model and that the use of said items complies with all applicable laws in your Country. In the UK, fitting an aftermarket HID kit is not technically road legal as you are replacing a halogen bulb with an HID bulb, because of this the HID bulb cannot be E marked, which is a requirement for it to be road legal. Therefore our HID kits are sold for off-road use only.
