Title: PCV Failure?
Post by: AlanEdition30 on October 06, 2012, 06:36:13 pm
Done a 350 mile round trip to Birmingham from Norwich today and on the return journey the car has started to idle higher than it normally does. If you put it in d (dsg) the revs lower again, but when in park or neutral the revs rise again. Ive done a search and found a bit more information e.g faulty pcv.

Anybody else had this problem and if so, what sorted the problem?  :happy2:

Pretty common to be honest mate, try a new valve in it and they have also done a revised top breather for the head depending on what year your car is on it maybe peace of mind fitting one of these also as i think its only about £90 inc vat for the pair, its on the to do list for mine also

Yeah having done a few more searches its a common problem. I dont know whether to do it myself or book into local revo garage and get them to also change to the latest dv (revision g) and change the cam follower, as my car has now done 43k and its still on its original pcv, dv and cam follower.

I think these are all things ive read on the forum that should be changed periodically? Is this correct?

As you have an Eddy (if your mechanically inclined) its an easy job to do yourself, both the DV and PCV are right at the front of the engine. Couple of torx screws and bobs your uncle. Removing the engine cover is the hardest bit IMO, right PITA. Would recommend getting the orange gasket for the PCV as well, while your at it, only £10 ish and worth changing.

The front PCV (Common failure) is only about £32 - NOT £90
and its an easy part to fit yourself. Do a search for a how-to guide if you need one.

Personally I would just buy a BSH pcv revamp kit and forget about it ever failing again.
