As above as a track car to strip, cage, brakes, and coilovers.
To do as cheap as possible. Seems to be a 1k difference in prices too between the civic and the clio, the clio being cheaper.
Never driven either of them, starting to think of my next project as the current comes to a close, with the aim being to make a car for max fun with minus outlay. Plan is to have it ready by May next year to take round the ring to go gungho in.
Not looking for all out power for this project so doubt Id do any engine mods!
Eagerly await replies from the usual suspects!

I would go type r, with suspension mods they will be very similar in pace but the Honda has better driving position, engine and cooler track car IMO.

I've just bought a 182 Cup and the first time I drove it was my drive home back from Halifax. In fact I hadn't driven a quick Renault since a Clio WIlliams and a 19 16v I used to own!! :driver:
I can now see what all the fuss has been about, what a great little car. Quicker than I was expecting and the handling was a real hoot!! And as a real bonus all the toys worked too!!

Halifax? You been raiding Matt's Clio collection :signLOL:

I've owned an EP3 and I love them :happy2:
Gear stick right next to steering wheel, short clunky shift, taught chassis and an engine that could lap a track for 200,00 miles with ease.
Great brakes out of the box and plenty of tuning parts available :notworthy:
Clio handles a bit better out of the box and there's no difference between the two in a straight line, although IMHO the civic sounds better with the screaming vtec engine, than the cammy Clio.
Either one would be a great choice for the track. My money would be on the civic, though

Looks like the type R is the one to go for, surprising how it beat the Focus RS and a Porsche boxster

Being honest had a few of both type r and clios and the shorter chassis helps the clio so much but I think the engine is better in the Honda but its the chassis on the clio that has the Honda beat every time. You can't go wrong with either the lighter of the clios is the phase 1 and that's what I am turning into my track car over the coming months but driving a 182 cup as a daily is better place to be
