Title: Knocking Noise
Post by: Cooper on June 15, 2009, 11:53:13 am
I lowered my GTI on coilovers on Friday and since then I have had a knocking noise coming from the front drivers side when on full lock, anybody got any ideas what this might be?

A friend said it may be to do with the front drop links as on the mk4's when lowering on coilovers these had to be replaced, however I have never heard anyone say this is required for the mk5?

Going to have a look at it tonight to make sure that everything is as tight as it should be, after all my mate who fitted them did forget to nip the bolts up on that wheel when he had finished  :surprised: and that started to make a knocking noise itself, but just wondered if anyone had any suggestions?

Thanks :happy2:

The drop-links have been known to go on the MK5 as well, a few members on here have experienced the same problem!

....

Yes, I've had a knocking after coilovers and replaced the drop link and anti-roll bar brackets.

It might be steering rack related.

I experinced the similar problem a few weeks ago aftyer I lowered mine was getting a horrible knocking noise from the driver's side footwell took it back to where I got this collies fitted and found out that the anit-roll bar need to be tightned properly my argument was why wasn't this done in the first place

I had the knocking noise as well. You need to get new subframe bolts as for some reason they can only be used once and need replacing when they are removed. Torque these to factory spec and it should go.

Any idea of the part number for the bolts and a rough idea of how much they cost?

Part numbers a bit of a bugger. I went to VW and asked them to order all the bolts for the subframe, and as usual they got the wrong ones. What you need to do is look at a copy of etka and also check the repair manual g5_40-4 and order the correct bolts.
