When I switch on the ignition there is a high-pitched electrical whine for 10-15 seconds. It's quite audible with the bonnet open.
I did a test on my folks' mk5 1.6 and it makes the same noise, but only for 2-3 seconds.
Can someone tell me what is causing this?
Thanks

Is it the throttle body adjusting? :stupid:

Lol. Had a mouth full of tea when I read that. Lol.

Do you have xenons? If so it could be the ballasts?
Fuel pump priming?

^^^ No I have standard halogens.
Would someone be so kind as to pop their bonnet and turn the ignition on and then listen at the engine bay for a continuous high-pitched eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee sound which only lasts for x number of seconds??
My car runs perfectly, but I'd like to know what it is!
Thanks

....I think I've heard that sound but it's not loud and doesn't last. IIRC, I've heard it after stopping as well - But I'm not sure.
I won't be starting up my car until Saturday but will try to remember. But I expect someone else might do this and post before then.

^^^Cheers Robin. I'm pretty sure that the high-pitch sound (followed by a couple of clicks) when you switch OFF the engine is the throttle body calibrating. Just not sure what it is on ignition ON.

It's defiantly the throttle self adjusting.

Its from the FLUX CAPACITOR !

Throttle body servo checking its range and basically 'in standby' for when you crank the starter motor. The throttle body makes this noise while your car is running, though you can't hear it over the engine :happy2:
