Title: Hello from a new Edition30 owner!
Post by: d0mokun on October 10, 2012, 11:11:49 pm
Hi everyone,

After looking at many Golfs over the past two months, I finally managed to secure a really hot example of an Edition30 (5 door). It lacks a few features like MFSW buttons and highline clocks, but otherwise is bang on the spec I wanted.

I've owned a few cars now and totally fell in love with the DSG box the first time that I drove it. What an amazing bit of kit it is. The turbo surprises me every time, too. I've owned much more powerful NA cars that didn't pull like this beast.

Anyway, 2 days in and I'm already hunting for mods. The Golf seems like such a customisable vehicle. Going to start small and try red rim tape (uh-oh), another Ed30 badge for the front (why isn't there one anyway?!) then MFSW buttons and the highline clocks.

Looking forward to being a part of this community.

Welcome Dan  Sweet car!

I moved from a 1.6 with highline and MFSW to my GTI with neither. I have to say I don't miss them at all; I'm always having too much fun driving the car fast.  :innocent:

Red rim tape will probably look utterly woeful, but you never know!

Hi chaps,

Thanks for the comments!

I don't think I'd want the controls and highline had I not played with a GTi that had them. I'm a pain like that. Now I keep thinking what it'd be like to have them and so.. lol. I ultimately want to stick an RNS510 in there, so the highline will go well with that.

Rim tape wise- I've gone for a really thin strip size. Hopefully it won't look too gash, but who knows. Trying to go more for a GTi style than a blazing Nova protégée, innit bruv.

Best
Dan

Welcome onboard Dan.  :drinking:

Eddy looks a good one. Highline clocks (GTI and R32) are always popping up in the For Sale section on here. R32 for that über cool white dial and blue needle look.

As for the Rim tape, seriously?? Get your Pescara's professionally refurbished and have the rim painting, would look a whole lot better. Lots of peeps with a red lip on black wheels.  :happy2:

Welcome Dan from another ED30 owner with DSG  :happy2:

I'm getting an RSN510 fitted at the weekend, can't wait as it will make the dash look so much better.

I also has cruise and MFSW controls retro fitted by Eddie-NL on here, he's great for that kind of stuff and very handy if you're close to Norfolk

Enjoy mate

Hi chaps,

Again thanks for your comments- this place is far becoming my new favourite internet haunt. It's far nicer board than other owners forums I've been a part of.

I've decided to give the rim tape a rethink.. lol. That said, I'd still like to get a thin strip of GTi style red around them. We shall see.

Definitely going to go for the MFSW buttons first, and then flip a coin to decide whether highline or RNS510 gets favour second in line.

Ohhh it's going to be a world of fun :-D

Best
Dan.

Welcome  :happy2:

Looks lovely.

And as for flipping a coin, a definite must. Best way to make a decision that has no obvious right choice

Welcome Dan,

from another Dan with an Edition 30 also...

a simple revo stage 1 will make big difference to the power while maintaining the drivability and economy..

Agree with the previous posts about the rims, leave them looking standard, a super quick but standard looking car is always nice..

good luck with it..

Dan

Hola,

Best name, best car. Simples!

Is the REVO stage 1 good on the Ed30? I had a TT with the base 2.0 TFSI, manual though. When I had that remapped it was a pain when putting power down.

It will have more power than the tt so unless you are going to try and mod it to make it grip harder it will more than likely be worse, I only really struggle in the wet TBH although the vreds I'm running at the moment don't help in any conditions.

Hi all

SNAP! Just picked my new toy at the weekend - an identical looking black 5 door DSG Ed30 and I love it to death!
Dam these cars are quick! Had a golf v5 beforehand and thought that had some pace but this is another level.
I too am looking at some mod options but am going to leave the standard looks well alone as it already looks the bees knees.
That leaves a sat nav mod but the whole rns510 version battery drain can gateway is confusing! Prices seem to vary massively from version to version and I have no idea what I'm after. Any advice would be great!
Also looking at those VW specific VW units (f920bt) - anyone got any experience with these? Anyone selling?
Cheers

in the wet you need to be a little careful with the right foot, but hey, its not 4wd..

i've only had the stage 1 revo so far and you can feel it scrabble for grip sometimes on the way out of a corner, but that's a good thing!!

i guess if you go to stage 2(+) then you need to look at how its going to get all that power down without just steering where it wants to..

Seems like the turbo and kit would take a remap better than the TT did. Couldn't help thinking I'd blow it up every time I booted it.

I know all too well about being careful in the wet- I had a 343hp Z4M two cars before- that was a bugger in any amount of rain. That said, the Ed30 feels truly as quick (not off the line, but otherwise) as it.. the DSG box helps massively. Just can't get over the brap on upshifts. Lovely sound!

If I could go back and change anything about the Ed30, I'd have put a noisier exhaust on it. I know there are aftermarket solutions.. just seems odd that with all the boy racer anniversary bits nobody thought to put a bean can (see bean can, read tasteful exhaust) on it at the factory!

Best
Dan.
