As her first car I would have liked to get my 17 yr old daughter something VAG, have looked at VW up!, Seat Mii & Skoda citigo, group 1 Insurance which is great, but 1000cc 60hp and she will be up and down the fastish A12, I just cant take them seriously, and I’d have to look at it on the drive
So low Insurance group small cars? At the moment its looking like the new Ford KA Zetec 1.2 petrol (Group 3)
Any other thoughts?

the mrs just got a vw up, smart nippy has a few extras but value for money is still spot on not my cuppa tea but nice to drive and quite girly
-
The Up! is a lovely little car. Personally, if it was my son or daughters first car low power would be preferable. I would however go for something a little bigger and safer, perhaps a 2-year-old 1.4 Golf.

Polo 1.2 diesel or 1.4 petrol??

My mate bought his 17 y/o daughter a VW up, she had it a year and loved it, then daddy bought her a mini :signLOL:

Yeh just a bit worried about those town cars keeping up with the flow at 70 and getting blown around on dual carriageways.
Golf's maybe a bit big for her 1st car, I'd really like her to have a Polo but Half decent spec was £11,300.00 :surprised:

Fabia Monte Carlo. Cheap as chips with the Skoda VAT free deal

The Fabia 1.2 (60bhp) S 5d is only Group 3 :happy2:
-
You can get a 75PS up! as well? The up! White is a nice bit of kit for a first car.
-
OK not a VAG group but have a look at the Toyota iQ. I've got one for driving around the city/to and from work, also not bad on the motorway. Feels like a bigger car, plenty of space inside.

What about a Mini?

Fiat 500?
-
Ibiza SC 1.2 or the 1.4 which has a really good spec, ones £9k and the others about £11k I think. :happy2:

Why buy so new for someones first car ? She does not know what she wants , i would get her a Mini Cooper diesel , £20 road tax 60mpg and great fun . We have had one for 2 years and its great and we going down the A12 next week to Gatwick in it . Is a good car at dual carraigeway speed .

Don't discount the Up and it's cousins Neil. I know the headline figure of 60bhp doesn't sound too inspiring but it's not the whole story. They really do zip along and I'm 100% sure there would be more than enough 'zip' for a new driver.

Thanks for the advice lads, its kind of nice having a bit of a petrol head for a daughter (unlike her older sister!)
She can't see herself in anything to 'girly', I'm trying to steer her to VW/Seat, obviously I'd like her to have something like I did for her first car, but a 1967 Anglia 105e is a bit hard to come by :happy2:

Fiat 500?
...........one of the most stolen/vandelised cars around at the moment. :scared:
-
Not sure if u want a "new" car but what about a Lupo GTI. Had one as my first car when I was 17 & loved it. Such a cool car, nice spec, low insurance & perfectly fine doing 70+
-
Give her the Golf, should get up to speed on a motorway nicely.
-
Maybe a little old, but what about Polo Mk3(6N) 1.4 16valve. 100bhp, so not sluggish :driver:
