Title: W/Meth, fitted with pics
Post by: gazon69 on October 15, 2012, 07:53:11 pm
Had a little something going on over the weekend, in the way of a Devils Own w/m kit. I took my time fitting it as i have been tooing and froing here and there.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1183.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fx463%2Fgazon69%2FFD39EE09-D810-4A7D-9C38-2F91464D4DEE-8023-0000023A390FDDE7.jpg&hash=27e830debc8d070efb35e978dfd5fa9d285edae9)

I started by getting all of my wiring ready to plumb in.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1183.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fx463%2Fgazon69%2F884A7BF5-0705-44C8-979A-92C714AACC86-8023-0000023A5BB9C2AF.jpg&hash=8d857b87454290e79bfdd6bd5435516a7e32149e)

I had to strip out the battery and the glove box to get the wires through the bulkhead, (total barstewards of a job)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1183.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fx463%2Fgazon69%2FB9E43449-D9B6-4018-BF47-20B074D96ABF-8756-0000035E81F0F214.jpg&hash=14d6f52bc0afe389d164ced259c9e6ff07b7d400)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1183.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fx463%2Fgazon69%2F11B162A3-5A3C-461E-B4F2-C711E53E7398-8756-0000035E93F361EC.jpg&hash=c37c75b7a898008fde2b4255c3aacf53466bd60c)

I hid all of the wiring under the carpet and fixed the relay underneath the passenger footwell.
Next i took a 12v ignition live from the cigarette lighter. I just tapped into the wire for this.
All of the methanol feed line was next, that had to go from the pump in the boot, through the bulkhead then into the inlet pipe.

To mount the pump and tank i got a sheet of mdf and cut them out just a little bit bigger than the tank and pump and mounted it behind the carpet on the wheel arch and for the pump i bonded it to the boot floor. I bonded them in because i didn't fancy drilling the bodywork.

I then ran the boost line, again through the bulkhead. I mounted the boost controller in the flipdown drawer under the drivers side dash. Makes for easy adjustment.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1183.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fx463%2Fgazon69%2F32B87577-2C9C-486A-BFCF-A4ACA6F82A5A-8841-00000363F8A1B26B.jpg&hash=8f026a349b55e75c75af34b083f205e6cc5b09d2)

I then inserted the jet into the inlet pipe and connected up the meth pipe.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1183.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fx463%2Fgazon69%2F1D0E12E6-1E0C-4000-BA2A-C9EEF3064964-8756-0000035EB71488AB.jpg&hash=8582ee1195ba230268c6e3fce926e626ce95bd94)

After connecting up all of the wiring to appropriate place I fired up the car to check all was working.
Gutted. No power to the pump. Checked everything down to the last wire. All was present and correct. Or so i thought.
Shot down to statllers for a bit of know how and low and behold i had tapped into the wrong wire for the 12v ignition live.   Switched it around and bingo, fired up.
Shot back home and put everything back together.

Here's the finished article.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1183.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fx463%2Fgazon69%2F292735B2-C924-41AF-9084-A0CEF54FB9F9-8756-0000035ED334A71D.jpg&hash=4fb634453a464dcf0762d5c016245ca1ad50ca4c)

Not had time to get any methanol theough it yet.
Tried a bit of water and have to say there is some noticable difference.
Car feels a little stronger now.
Can't wait untill tomorrow now to get some methanol mix in. Going to get it dyno'd also to see what the differences are with and without.
Need my new clutch now.

Thanks for looking, Gaz

It's a good kit, I used to run 1 on my corrado g60. Any better pics of where and how you mounted nozzle?

not really, hard to get a camera down there. I bought a bsh/revo inlet pipe. There is a mounting point on it especially for meth kits. I will try and get a better pic tomorrow. :happy2:

If you're still running standard rods, be prepared for one bending...   :scared:

Got bwa in there matey. If it goes pop i'll prob just slot an ed30 lump in. Not done any testing what so ever yet mate as im at work. Should be done around 1ish so gonna head down to statllers and get it on the rollers. I'll post dyno up once done.  :happy2:

James, the pump should really be below the bottle as it is gravity fed. If not it can cause pumping issues when the level drops and strain the pump.

Are you sure John? I could have sworn that it says it doesn't matter where the pump is placed in my instructions
Title: Re: W/Meth, fitted with pics
Post by: Tfsi_Mike on October 16, 2012, 11:20:15 am

It would depend on the suction lift on the individual pump, surely?

my manual just said mate sure it is not above the tank,  never had any problems, it can empty the whole thing. :drinking:

Hmm, maybe I got a different set of instructions. If this is the case I'll probably do something similar on the R :happy2:

What Map are you running mate? You Should see a healthy gain when set up correctly on Meth. You may benefit by increasing your nozzle size too. I'm currently running a dual nozzle set up (DO2 Pre TB / DO1 Post TB) and Steve Jnr recommended me upping my nozzle sizes a little.

As John said the Devil's Own instructions state that the pump should be mounted below and as close to the tank as possible, however how critical this is I don't know.

Just out of curiousity, is anybody running WMI on a KO4 motor with a Rev G (diaphram) DV fitted?

Yea I am

Yea I am

Where's your nozzle located bud? Reason I ask is because I have had two Rev G DV's fail on me since running WMI. I took them appart and they were soaking wet. The Rev D seems to be holding up ok so far although I don't know how long it will last.

my bad, the instructions do state that the pump should be below and as close to the tank as possible. James, if you were to rotate your pump 180 degrees that would put the feed lines below your tank and suffice i would have thought. Though yours is a different product so you may be ok.  :happy2:

The thing is i'm only running a 126ml/min nozzle pre TB/DV which is located right at the bottom of the Throttle Body Pipe, which as far as i'm aware is far from excessive. The pump is set at 200psi from memory and i'm running a 50/50 mix.

Gazon you also need to be careful with the nozzle situated in that pipe.

The meth kills throttle bodies.

I have an INA TB Spacer for when I do mine so the Water Meth is injected after the TB.

Its a common problem.

AKS Tuning.

VrsAlex on here is he.

About £75 but don't quote me as they vary all the time due to exchange rates.

INA is the make and a beautiful piece of engineering it is too.

Hope I have helped.

I'm going for a Devils Own kit dude, meant to be fairly good.

How many and what size nozzles? Just 1 big one? I've seen people run a couple...

The majority of brand named kits use the exact same 200psi water pump, tubing is generic and so are most fittings. It's the control system that is more important.
