Title: Moredoor with skyline tails
Post by: Stanipkiss on October 17, 2012, 10:48:14 pm
Evening All

Thought i would say hello to all in Gti land.

Being a saloon man i run a tdi se 56 plate Jetta (silver), but have been tinkering with Gti's in past namely Mk1 Rivage and Mk2 Jetta Gti 16V (featured in PVW 1994 & Golf same year) will look and scan and post if i can find.

Sadly I dont have a pic of jetta as yet but will try.

1st mod was pressed plates then changed front grill for black gt-tdi version.

Plenty more to come if i can locate parts.

Nuf for now

Agreed, would be interested in how it ended up and what you started with?

Was your model the Sport? I believe they were lower already from the factory, just wondering what sort of drop you would get with the B12's and how the ride is compared to standard?

Here we go then, its been along time since I wrote a review. If I miss anything just ask.

The B12's sportline are now fitted! 45-50mm front 30-35 mm on rear
Bear in mind the following.
My Tdi is just a 2.0l 140 se and I was not looking to scrape the floor with coilovers. (love the look but not practical and speed humps everywhere in Bristol)
This car is doing approx 24k a year and also carry the wife and kids on weekends in relative comfort, now on 116k.
Still running the se 16's so the tyres mixed between Bridgestone and Conti's are 55 profile and give somewhat when cornering. (looking for Pescara's for summer and cant wait to feel the performance difference and look on 18's)

With all that in mind!
Just me driving: WOW
What a difference it has made firstly the car now feels and looks level not boot high, also the body roll, its next to none now. No more sea sickness round corners and roundabouts.
Roundabouts are much more fun (even being front wheel drive)
Still comfortable on the motorway (70miles a day).

With the family and loaded up.
Still good, not bumpy at all and no complaints from the wife. (she doesnt understand the whole VW mod thing)
Son who's 4, cant wait to inherit the Jetta as his first car.

Dont have pictures as yet coz when i get home its dark, maybe have time over weekend and will post before and after.

In summary I am thankfull to Graeme @ GNJ Motorsport for all his advice and service that he has given me and the cheapest in the UK. Good luck with the workshop.
This B12 Sportline kit has made a great difference and it feels like driving a new car again. It brings me back to my younger years with my MK2 Jetta Gti 16v
Oh thanks for reading.

Excellent. Glad you happy with the kit, sounds good. I know the Sport is already lowered by 15mm and sightly stiffer settings so wonder how different it would be with the B12's.

My de-chroming mission is nearly complete.
Side fins and grill are wrapped in 3M gloss black wrap.
The lower grills have had a good deep clean, primed and sprayed gloss black.

Rear badge also wrapped and colour coded behind.

Some chrome still present around the windows.
Does anyone know of any breakers selling any Jetta s door trim (it comes black) or 07-on golf (5door) trim?
I am Somerset based but would travel or pay postage (if too far)
Thanks for looking

Where do you plan on running your front plate?  :happy2: Car looks very nice now and I like the contrast with silver + black. I think the front end is totally transformed now. Did you fill the wholes for the numberplate surround before you wrapped it? Or are you goign to refit that with your plate?

Very nice! Keep it up

Filled plate holder holes with araldite and then Isopon P38, sanded with various grades 240-2500 of wet n dry sand paper, then wrapped. I like the results, nearly bought Danny's on here but thought i'd have a go myself. Plate sits in window for now, not 100% where im gonna mount it.

I've just done the same with the front and smoothed it. I bought an Alfa 156 number plate plinth & a spare clip in section that goes into the bumper below the headlight (its where the headlight washers would pop out of - but i dont have them!) And screwed the alfa plinth to it - I'll get pics up once its done

.
I like the whole concept of de-chroming / de-silvering the car interior. It's just a personal taste thing and I happen not to like all the silver bits on the Mk6 Golf interior. It's supposed to communicate luxury and I suppose it does but I much prefer a more sporty ride to a luxury cruise.

Well these arrived earlier for the winter tyres. Was worried as they are from ebay (you never know what will turn up) but they are genuine, straight and clean, i suspect audi.
I have asked if any one knows their name in another thread.

For some time now i have been looking at getting some OEM Gti (equivalent) side skirts for my Jetta. My preference has always been the original textured look. I have spoken to my local stealer about them but they were no help what so ever. In fact when ever i go in and question them about fitting golf stuff to my car they must think "oh no not him again!"
I had placed a wanted post to see if i can adapt an old or damaged golf 5 door version, only had 1 reply to this, thanks Tortaruga.
I have been aware of ECS tuning in USA and they sell the Jetta GLi OEM skirts but I have been put off by the price of the postage and duty, I know UK Golf skirts are £40 from the stealers but the total quoted cost of £285 is somewhat too much (out of principle)
Over the weekend i registered with VWVortex (some lovely carsover there) to see if anyone knew if 1, I could get a good deal from their stealers or 2, someone could give me the part numbers.
Someone came up with the part numbers along with a stealer that would supply them http://keffervwparts.com/index.cfm?siteid=216177

Today armed with the part numbers i spoke to my local stealer again, to my joy the parts man was actually quite helpful and said they would need to be special ordered, I handed him £84 (ahh much better than £285) to be told it may take some time but they will call me when they are in.
I will update when they arrive.

Thanks for looking in

Its sat on Bilstein B12 kit (pg 2 of thread), reason being it sits on a motorway for 70miles a day and has to carry the family at the weekend. B12's are gert lush for me.  Got them from Graeme @ GNJ on here I considered coilovers but needed to keep it comfortable.

I got no build thread yet but once I get my wedding out the way ill try and sort one out, if you have got Instagram have a look at tgazjetta and their is loads of pics of it!

Them skirts look well shame about the short one! I'm looking to fit some to mine in the summer to give the sills a bit of protection more than anything g else!!

Bit of an update from VW regarding short skirt.

They have offered up the O/S skirt to their forecourt Jetta and they said it looks like it will fit, they didn't fit it to their car as it has mudflaps on!
They also want me to take my car in to them to see that it doesn't fit on Friday, BUT they did say that as they are not factory fitted in the UK they said that VW UK would not be getting involved or help out.

I will update on Friday

Hope you get to the bottom of it mate and it gets sorted, I'm guessing you can't take them back off due to having drill holes in sill to secure the skirt bracket?

OK so i took the car to VW this morning and the parts guy (lets call him Mike) came out and tried to fit the skirt! Surprise surprise it still didn't fit.
He then went to the workshop to get another guy (chief mechanic) and they had a go at fitting the skirt together. After about 5-10 attempts they both decided that there was NO way the skirt was going to fit!!
I pointed out that the skirt had a slight twist to it but the N/S didn't prior to fitting, "that could be the issue"
Mike said he will order another one, which will possibly arrive sometime mid next week.

Mike did also say that VW UK would NOT be interested if the skirt doesn't fit as I am "retro" fitting them to my car.

Result is that i have to wait till next week to see if VW can get a straight O/S skirt.

In my quest to get 18" wheels (prefer Pescara's but will wait for the right set) I managed to win these off the bay.
7.5x18 ZCW Angel ET38 with 215/35 Cooper Zeon tyres on.

Had to drop my eldest off at her mums for half term but managed to get back just in time to fit them to the car before it got too dark.

Will get some better pictures tomorrow.

Daylight picture, the gap between the arches makes it look like it needs lowering (even more) and been out in it and the ride feels very rough on 35 profile.

Update:
Had a call from VW today, the new O/S skirt has arrived and its 7mm longer than the one they tried fitting last week. Woo Hoo
Gonna get it tomorrow and fit it at the weekend.
Wheels went too, so now i have space in my shed for the winters off and continue my search for Pescy's

Is there an explanation as to how you ended up with one that was 7mm shorter?!
Title: Re: Salooooon side skirts
Post by: Stanipkiss on February 12, 2013, 10:08:03 pm
All they said was that VW couldn't explain how it was so much shorter. I though it must have been during manufacturing.
You could clearly see that the one I had had a twist in it.
Mike at the dealership did offer me a discount on some more parts, so i might take advantage and get a GTi splitter.
I cant believe you have not sold your lovely Porsche wheels yet!  :surprised:

As far as I know Torque they are different, the GTi is made up of 2 pieces, the 1st is the spoiler and the 2nd piece is the lower splitter section. But the upper section i think is different on a Jetta.
I confused my VW parts guy buy asking too many questions on part numbers earlier, I am not sure if the lower splitter will fit straight on to the Jetta spoiler.
I will find out part numbers and will let you know.

Not enough numbers for a part according to VW

Some nice touches on this car bud. Me being picky would say it needs another 15mm lowering but aside from that, as an all around package it's nicely done.
The ventilation controls look interesting... care to share the link?

Think they look better at night than they do in the day, mind.  :happy2:

Cheers Torque, VW want £16 a strip for the s spec black one's, when you need 8 and a special tool to change them over it makes it expensive.
Nothing wrong with the chrome just dont like it on the car.
Left over wrap and a bit of patience worked at treat.  :happy2:

Trial fitted the Heko deflectors this morning, need clips for the rears to sit in place. Not sure if I like them tho and could depend on wind noise on M way during the week.

How long that take?

What takes time is letting the glue go off. It all depends on how OEM you want it to be, especially with the wiring. Could be quick, or could take all day.

Can do, but you would need to send me your lights and a spare reverse light unit so I can get the inners out of that. I have one set of rings left.

Post by: Stanipkiss on June 12, 2013, 09:47:09 pm
Unless your gonna drive down with your reverse lamp on your car it is 2 needed ( 1 for the innards on the fog side)
The red of the fog lamp is all moulded to the innards that the led ring is attached to, hence needing 2 clear (reverse) lamps.
A mod well worth the doing.

This looks ace, I've got clear lense on both sides (german ebay) with a silver/red bulb for the fog which gives symmetry but this looks way better, well done!

The sensor cover was about £5, the sensor however was about £40.
If you find one make sure it has the adjustment dial intact, skards just needed some good glue on the clip.

Jetta is awesome, a questions, a think somebody had already asked but a couldnt see a reply, The gti valance you fitted, was it a straight swap for the jetta splitter and do you have a part number for it.

Liking the gloss black trim really good vinyl wrapping skills

Thanks for comments Pchende, very kind of you. What you driving? Get some pictures up in new members section.

The Jetta lower front valance is the same but does'nt have the 3 holes that hold the back end of the Gti lower splitter. I just installed a 2nd hand Gti valance and lower splitter that I got in the for sale section here.
I prefer the Gti i version as its textured like my GLi side skirts and rear valance. As far as part numbers goes I dont remember them at this time but will have a look for them and let you know.

Hi again

How do you rate the B12's thinking of getting the same kit for my jetta. Can i ask what size wheels do you run and have you had any rubbing issues since you lowered it

Regards

Paul

No worries Paul, I highly recommend the kit (sportline) for the driving that I do and the F1 assay 2's all-round it works really well. Comfy enough for all types of driving and I have never heard it rubbing or scrubbing on the arches (no need for screw mod on front arches)  I even tow a 600kg trailer tent with a full boot and kids in the back (picture below) Don't forget these are not coilovers and are a set lowering of 35-50mm. I have been thinking about upgrading the rear ARB to see if it improves handling. Talk to Graeme from GNJ motorsport on here, thats where mine came from. The wheels are 18" BBS VZ's with 225/40's. Hope this helps.

No thats great, i have been talking to him, a think it was your build thread i got his details from. Bit theres nothing better then asking someone who has the same car as me for first hand info on what they are like to live with. I am hoping these are slightly better at absorbing the bumps than coilovers. As i can stand the harshness. The fixed drop doesn't bother me as my car needs to stay at a practical height for various reasons

Do you have anymore side on pics so i could see how the car sits? Really appreciate the info.

Paul

I have always fancied 2 sets of wheels for my dub, Pescara's and Charlestons. I have BBS VZ033 (better offset than Pescara's) and found some Charlestons on ebay the other day (recently refurbed) snapped them up and collected them from Swansea. I decided to fit them today as it was dry.

They were refurbed by the previous owner somewhere in S Wales. I can assure you they are genuine VW, the inserts and bolt covers are light grey.

So had my first ever coilovers fitted Wed by my local indy garage, I went out today to get some pictures.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fstanipkiss%2FJetta%2FDSC00374_zpsdf9c1c4a.jpg&hash=84d346b0f5076e93a6696ba1f87fbd1ddbf309be)

I must say I am impressed with these RDX's, not harsh in any way at all, very close ride to my old B12 kit but lower. The garage said I had at least another 60mm on the front left and the rear is all the way down so I could take the adjusters out if I wanted it lower.
For a mid priced set of coil overs I am impressed

Not so nice with the driveway! I have to do the same at ours go in at an angle and straighten up at the last second - works most times!

It has been a while with moving house, building, decorating and new job, not a lot has changed apart from the mileage now on 165000 and it sailed through the MOT on saturday without any advisories.
New tyres were needed for the MOT and went for Nexen N Fera SU1's of the 215/40 variety, pictures to follow.

Really like your Jetta did you do the rear inner light convention?

How the ride with the springs and shocks? As I use mine as a daily and want to keep the ride as comfortable and handling.

What the window heko deflectors like?

Thanks ad26 and no an old member of the forum made up and coded the rears for me. I have 2 LED reverse lights to go in after xmas. The ride on the RDX's is very good and very useable for a daily, i currently do approx 600-800 miles a week for work on them and still ride like the day they were fitted, well worth the money and can still go down 20mm on the rear and 60mm on the front! The deflectors are really useful if you want fresh air in the car but not blowing your head off and fit great too.

Fitted the Capezio winters today.

I sold the B12 kit some time ago sorry, there used to be a thread on how the rear tail lights were done by purchasing Led rings and then genuine connectors and wiring/coding to the car but I cannot seem to find it anymore, you will also need a German reverse inner light, check the modification area it won't be that different to the Golf. For the sideskirts check pg 6 of this build thread for all the part numbers that you need and how to fit.

Still looking good - shame i missed out on getting the inner lamps done on mine!

They may be up for grabs soon as I keep looking at the MK6 Jetta, but can't find a silver one with climate and parking sensors.

After not cleaning the care for some time, I finally pulled my finger out today.
Outside work the other day, with VZ's on.

After 2 n half hr drive this morning I pulled in to a garden centre carpark looking for some guy called Olly to purchase some xenons, waiting in the carpark was a nice reflex silver MK5 and turns out it was stuart-88 waiting to also purchase some GTI parts. Always good to meet other forum members. So, across the road this guy appears from a gated house with some parts in his hands, so I drove over.
I could not have been happier when he returned with these beauties.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fag38%2Fstanipkiss%2FIMG_1765_zpsn2c7uum1.jpg&hash=18871796fc5f432f466fbf6e20e8345bc4df9a58)

I then drove another hour to @Usual Suspect (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1800) to get them fitted and coded.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fag38%2Fstanipkiss%2FIMG_1763_zpsfme8qlyz.jpg&hash=40e94794f57fac73c24da2617e7dbdffcfab1f0c)

About an hour later black GTi light out and fitted and coded xenons, thanks Raz  :happy2:
Turns out my car has a low line CECM and Raz had to work his code magic to overcome the xenons flashing.

Result after 350 mile round trip, a nice and fresh front end.

Not a great fan of the chrome on my Jetta but due to the xenons i figured I would play with the grill today.
Started with this

I'd leave the whole grill black (gloss black like you have or matte black like GT Sport have).

I prefer the chrome VW badge as well.

I think I prefer the chrome slats but I'd do all of them not just the top like it is now.
If you don't like chrome what about doing them in reflex silver?
