Hey all,
Probably a bit desperate here but are there any clues in the appearance of my cambelt that would let me know approximately how old/worn it is? Car is now 5 years old, bought it in August and car was serviced in June but after speaking to the garage they confirmed they didn't do any work on the belts.
Getting quoted around £470 to change the lot which is pretty hard to take but don't want to avoid it much longer.
Would i get in tell tale noises if it was fairly worn?
Cheers.

£470 just for the cambelt? Wowzers :stupid:
Where do you live?
-
Sorry, £470 for cambelt and water pump but still pricier than i thought it'd be! VW were £470 and a couple independent specialists were same or more!!
Live in Aberdeen...where everything costs more! ha
-
Can you travel anywhere to make it cheaper?! I would get it done ASAP as you dont want the cambelt snapping!
-
If your car is five year's old and the belt has never been changed , get it done. The general idea is every four year's or 60000 miles. £470 is steep BUT is alot cheaper than a new engine if it breaks.
-
About the right price for that work from a VW main dealer. Should be 25% cheaper at a decent VW Indy Specialised. As mentioned, it's 4 years or 60k so get it done ASAP.
:happy2:

Not to rub it in but Iv been quoted £450 for my cambelt / waterpump AND a major service.... Shop around!

Thanks for the feedback guys - managed to get the job done for £280 but not at a VW place as they were all around £470 mark and wasn't taking a £200 hit just to have a VW receipt. The guys done work on my dad's Audi before so wasn't worried about quality

Sorry to resurrect an old topic, but am due to get cambelt etc done soon.
Been quoted £470 at independent and £499 at local vw (Bedfordshire/Hertfordshire area).
Also, is this the correct part/kit?

.
I just had mine done - Cambelt kit + Water pump + Coolant = £400 but quoted £485 by local VW dealer. I'm 8 years and 106k miles and she was last done at 62k miles.
They removed badger body parts and fitted a new righthand wing mirror light unit as well. And realigned a VWR engine mount. And gave me a lift home and collected me.

I done mine myself, got the parts from TPS for less that £130. Only thing is it means no stamp in the book :scared:
