Title: Hesitation/Stutter under load in high gear
Post by: john a on October 20, 2012, 09:15:58 am
There's a slightly similar thread a bit further down the page but my car is not exhibiting exactly the same symptoms.

It's a 2.0 TFSI with an APR stage 1 map, under load in 5th and 6th (at fairly high speed) the car seems to momentarily hesitate, almost like a cough I guess. I've done a bit of logging (not recently) which showed low fuel pressure at the rail but didn't log the two pumps separately. Symptoms have also been present with and without the map.

There is also a slightly rough idle too, I've changed PCV and plugs (latter about 10k miles ago) and other than changing all the fuel delivery parts, don't really know what else to do. Thoughts?

Agreed, live log blocks 015 and 016 with vcds for misfires.

Have you visually checked your cam follower?

I replaced the cam follower a few months back, some of the coating had worn off the top but it was in otherwise reasonable shape. Symptoms have been present prior to the follower being replaced.

I have had one instance of a misfire on cylinder 3, I haven't yet checked the coil or the plug, but I have also been unable to repeat the symptoms, although I haven't driven the car especially hard.

As the fault codes I was logging were to do with fuel rail pressure, could a misfire cause that (and not show a fault for a misfire)? I have only had the engine light flash once after the misfire, not after any other occasion.

Can you remember the exact fault code as it could well be your low fuel pressure sensor being faulty...

000135 - Fuel Rail/System Pressure
   P0087 - 002 - Too Low - Intermittent

Having changed the follower recently, either the sensor is knackered or the pump itself presumably?

I agree with you if your cam follower and cam lobe surface were ok. It's cheaper to change the sensor so IMO try that first though a new one is about £48

Sounds similar to something I had a while back, ended up having the tumble flap reset. Here is my previous thread if it helps

Any progress with this, I have a similar issue!
