Had mine (a basic CK3100) taken out last week as I had Bluetooth installed. It was a really good system IMHO, worked a treat and easy to use. Never had a problem linking to my phone (iPhone) either.

I was thinking of this one PARROT MKi9000 as I want to be able to play songs that are on my Iphone through my stereo as well as making phone calls. Any thoughts? From what you guys have said Parrot kits seem to be good in general so looking likely will go for it. Cheers.

Yes i had the 9200 in my last car, to be honest not that great, it worked well with my iphone and ipod through the cable but the problem was the wireless control sometimes did not work instantly and keep pressing the buttons and then had a little fit. Also takes a bit of time to get use to if playing music through it the volume control is the remote and not the radio volume control.

yeah i had it, its rubbish. the handsfree was terrible and no one could ever hear me.

the audio is also terrible as it plays it from its own built in amp so you cant control sound or eq from the headunit.

To be honest, you better off spending a little more and getting the OEM BT. This will also do BT audio streaming and it plays through your speakers, and doesn't sound bad at all. Plus the voice quality of the OEM system is excellent.

I've got it and its fantastic.

Mount the mic properly and people hear me perfectly. I can stream media through Bluetooth. Siri reads out messages for me. Audio is good and you can adjust the EQ settings in the Parrot menu. I upgraded my firmware through Parrot's website and operation is smooth and flawless.

I've had it installed since around April using it daily. It's a cracking kit for the price!

I use to fit these professionally - got it down to a fine art. I always use to drop the glasses holder/read lights mounts and hide the mic in there. Never had any issues with nobody being able to hear.

The bit that took the most time was making sure you didn't scratch the dash panel & doing it all without disconnecting the airbag warning light!

We had a good relation ship with the 4 local vag group dealers & I think I did about 250 over 3 years or so. Inc a white edition 30 with 4 miles on the clock!

If you can afford it do for the 9200i also get yourself a small USB powere mini hard drive & drop all your songs onto that - plug it into the USB on the parrot - job done!  :happy2:

sorry not really sure what you mean by OEM BT, could you provide more information? Thanks

OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer.

In other words the factory fit Bluetooth Module. Depending on where you are, either Eddie or myself could supply and fit for you.

Nothing wrong with the Parrot, but the complete integration of the OEM module is just so much better. If you have the right unit, you can have voice control and steering control.

I've got the mki9200 as it came pre-fitted in the car, I think it works well, like the voice recognition call feature  :happy2: works a lot more smoothly after updating the firmware

its wierd that there are such mixed reviews of this product, could it be that some of the kits are installed better than others?

I have been in touch with a company which fits this kit and they have said the following:

"The Parrot kits contain their own 60 watt class D amplifier, So sound much better that the VW 18 watt standard headunit"

Is this accurate? Thanks.

I recently installed the MKi9000 in my Golf and to be honest i'm not that impressed. Streaming music over bluetooth is bobbins, the audio quality is awful and it drops calls like a barstewards to the point where i am thinking about replacing it with a CK3100.

what is it like if you directly wire the Iphone into the kit and play music that way? Thanks

Regarding your question about the sound quality, I have both the mki9200 fitted alongside an RCD510 headunit which apparently has a class D built-in amp. The headunit provides more 'oomph' than the parrot, and one annoying thing I find with the parrot is that the equaliser settings often 'untick' themselves and I have to go back in and tick the box again  but not a bad system all in all!

I wouldn't buy it however solely for playing portable media devices - The RCD series of headunits work much better with their SD card slot  :happy2:

Thanks for the input, how much can I pick a RCD510 unit for and where is the best place to buy one from? I went on the VW site to see the system and it has an aux port which you can use to connect and IPhone, is this what you use when you are listening to music from your Iphone? In terms of the SD card slot, my laptop is pretty old so doesnt have one...

They usually cost between £220-£300 :happy2:

RCD510 pop up all the time in the For Sale section on here or eBay. Make sure (if you get one) it comes with the Security Code. Can come with DAB or without, both are good. Also download all your music onto an 32GB SDHC card and you'll have all your music at your fingertips when you want it. You can get a USB adapter for a couple of quid that you plug the SDHC into then in your Lappy. Example from eBay...

The only other thing you need is an Antenna adapter, about £10 from eBay.....

Amazing, 60 Watt in that little thing, they must have created a new technology to get that much power from something so small. From the information I have, it has a 20W D class amp, but does not state if it's peak or RMS. There is no way it will match a full 4 channel amp inside the radio, even if it's not a great one.

Your best option for playing music from your iphone / ipod is upgrade to an RCD 510, or even better RNS 510 if you want the nav, and get an MDI kit in the car.

I'll say again.. I had one.. and it sounded terrible. The to get any volume from it you need it at 9/10 but at that volume its just distorting.

save your money and get a proper aux input for the headunit or get a bluetooth module.

What about the connect2 kits? They are relatively cheap. Any thoughts? Thanks
