Title: Standard head unit upgrade
Post by: TomGTI on October 28, 2012, 09:42:13 am
Hey

I have a standard head unit in my 08 GTI only thing it has is the iPod connection in the glovebox, I want to upgrade to a head unit with a cd changer and Bluetooth is there a 1 available would prefere to stick to a VW head unit and I'm not too fussed if its a sat nav or iPod connection as I don't don't do too many mile and prefer to stick to old fashion cd?

Thanks

The VW answer is an RCD510 and you have a choice for phone kits.
5K0 or 7P6 Kit is the cheapest
5N0 is the premium on but is limited on which phones work with it
Skoda kit is the most expensive

You don't want nav but an RNS315 has built in bluetooth and SD card slot

The RCD510 looks awesome but rather pricey but does this have a cd changer or can it be fitted with 1?

And does this show song names from the iPod on the screen?

Ah got confused with the RNS over the RCD. if I'm correct RCD is cheaper but with no NAV?

would not waste money on vw units, overpriced. Go for a decent alpine, etc head unit.

I'm also looking for a new headunit but want something factory looking, is there a thread with non oem installs to see which is the closest to factory?

If you want factory looking but not OEM, get something like this

That's very nice SQUEEGUK but to be honest I'd like to keep it OEM but if I can get 1 at the right prices I'd go for a rns510 if not I'll settle for a rcd510 and link it to my iPhone for calling then get a reversing camera not that I need it just thought it would be a cool thing to have

I went for a RCD510 as I didn't need nav or the DVD player.

I got a DAB version on eBay for £210 deliverd and got a Bluetooth kit from Eddie

I hardly use the Bluetooth streaming as I filled a 32gb sd card with mp3 s and find it easier but it's really good for phone calls.

The stereo looks so much better than the rcd300 that was there from standard

I think this is the route I am going to take as well. Dont need nav or a dvd player either.
