Title: Steering rack controller

Hi All

Looks like I need a new steering rack controller (ECU) for my 2007 GTI. Can anyone give me a rough idea of cost for the part? I have no idea of the part number I'm afraid.

Hi Luka

I'm not sure. It was described to me as a "steering rack controller" and an" ECU". I've got a recurring problem with power steering lamp coming on intermittently. The steering angle sensor has been replaced, and some wiring repaired, but the fault is still there.

If its the whole steering rack, its a small fortune to replace, a grand plus, pray it isnt!! :$

No, it's definitely just the "steering rack controller", not the whole steering rack. Apparently it's an ECU dedicated to the steering rack. My faulty one has been temporarily replaced with a known good unit from a donor car and seems to have fixed the fault. I'm now waiting to see what the damage is for the new part, but it will be tomorrow before I know.

I think roughly about £160 from the dealer then they will charge around an hours labour to fit any longer and they are taking the piss

As far as i know this could be the part number   :happy2:

Bang on the money  :happy2: I was quoted £160 + VAT by VW today. Getting fitted FOC. Fingers crossed it finally solves the problem.

Hi scopes

The only code I recall being mentioned was "G85" which I think relates to the steering angle sensor. This was the first part they replaced but it didn't resolve the problem.
