Title: How do you buy tyres from Costco?
Post by: Mk5 GTian on October 31, 2012, 02:59:23 pm

And how do you get them fitted?

Is it like a big Bookers where you just go and buy stuff wholesale? If so, deffinately who fits them?

They have an in-house tyre fitting workshop in the Gateshead one. Will be the same elsewhere I'd imagine.

You'll need a Costco card to purchase anything though.

The following is assuming you are a Costo member and are paying either by cash, debit or Amex card only:
Enter the Costco branch of your choosing,
Head to the tyre bay,
Choose which tyres you'd like,
Exit the tyre bay and purchase a hot dog and a slice of pizza at the cafe,
Return to the tyre bay to find your tyres fitted and either your wheels still perfect or horrendously damaged depending on your chosen branch (I can recommend both the Manchester and Chester fitters as ok with mine on 4 visits so far but I have heard horror stories from other branches..)
Pay for your tyres or argue about the wheel damage,
Drive home with £150 of wholesale goods you didn't need but felt compelled to buy, I still have 60 pots of chicken noodles from my last visit btw..

Just to add, if you're not desperate for the tyres and can wait a few weeks the usual 20% discount when buying 4 tyres should be starting around mid November  :happy2:

Just buy the tyres promising that you will come back later (up to 12 months I believe) for free fitting and never go back.

Does anyone know if Reading or Croydon do tyres?

With your rims I can't say but they fooked 2 of mine on my Ed30.

You pays your money and takes your choice.

Croydon (Purley Way) does tyres too.  My Dad swears by Costco for tyres although he uses the branch in Watford so who knows how diligent the Croydon fitters are......
Let us know where you go.

Has anyone had any experience of having tyres fitted at the lakeside (west Thurrock) branch?

I bought x4 Michelins a year ago and had them fitted on my last car at Costco Edinburgh - x3 of the alloys were badly marked when I went to collect car - the arsehole manager had written on his copy (not mine) that all the wheels were marked prior to fitting, which was total lies. I wont go near Costco again for tyres.

Just in case Andy misses the question, he's based in Richmond, N Yorks and he's excellent. :happy2:

You pays your money and takes your choice.

I went to Tyre City in the end. paid 121 a corner for Michelin Pilot Sport 3's all in.

They inspected my wheels with me before and after fitting, and said if they don't leave here in exactly the same condition, they would pay for refurb. Can't argue with that! Any saving I'd have made going to Reading Costco would have been lost in fuel anyway!

Any Surrey boys out there, or peeps from surrounding counties, I can thoroughly recommend these guys. The place is pristine, with all the latest equipment. They stock pretty much every tyre you can imagine, it's massive! And you could eat your dinner off the floor!!

First they agreed to match the dirt cheap Camskill price (which is tyre only) and then added 15 a corner for balancing, new valves, fitting and promised a free alignment check.

Then when I asked them to be really careful  with my wheels, they agreed to look  over my wheels with me, agree any existing damage, and promised that the wheels would leave in exactly the same condition, or refurbishment costs would be met. You can't ask for fairer than that!

They have a nice waiting room full of old copies of Performance VW, and do good coffee!!

Won't be going anywhere else in the future. Anyt Costco saving I'd have made would have been lost in fuel travelling to either Croydon or Reading, It sounds like your rims are in danger from some of the feedback I've had, so I'll be buying locally from these boys in future.  :happy2:
