Title: Edition 30. APR stage2+
Post by: Rhys_Gti on November 01, 2012, 06:25:24 pm
Evening All,
Im Rhys from Cardiff
Thought i would start up thread after generally just looking around and admiring the cars on here :happy2:

Picked the car up almost a year ago and since the first week got into the slippery slope of modifying.   As a standard car i loved it, just all the general refinements made it such a great drive, and with a nice spec list couldn’t resist picking it up and regret leaving it and not finding another, especially as it was local.
From there got a bit carried away and gathered up the parts and having built up a great friendship with some of the guys at Awesome gti got all the parts organised to get it straight to Apr stage 2.
Currently running the APR software with full miltek system.  (absolutely love the transformation to stage 2 and with the full functions through the cruise control switch ability is great)
KW v3's
Neuspeed Pflow intake.
couple of other small refinements with some polybushing on torque arm insert (full front set up ordered :happy2:) NGK iridium x cold sparks, revision diverter valve and a couple of neuspeed carbon parts just to set it off.
So here how its currently looking,

What sort of power did you make with the Stg2 then? :pomppomp:

Yeah its much better look now with them off!
Haven't got a print out with the exact figures but off the top of my head 320bhp but can't remember the torque figure! It's going back soon for some other updates so its having a re run and print out then :) to be honest it drives great pulls exceptionally well and is nice and smooth to drive with the power so it got my wow factor!

Quick update. New interior parts fitted today. RNS510 nav system all seems to be working well along with the mk6 steering wheel with red stitching.  Just waiting for it to come back from some paint and can check all the mf button functionality :)

I use James at Ti22 in newport for all my paint and any full protection detailing needs great bloke really helpful and great help with any work that needs doing, great enthusiast whatever you drive.
Hes just finished the winter protection detail on the car too so looking really nice after the respray over the winter - it helps him being the only authorised south wales Swissvax detailer too :happy2:

Thanks very much it is an awesome little touch that makes a big difference I think! They can seem pricey but if it comes with the control unit then it's not all bad they are expensive themselves.

Thanks, yeah it is a straight swap as long as you have the control unit for the mk6 wheel also to swap it for the mk5 one.  With both bits was just swap over. I have a highline display tho so not sure if its compatible without. And also if u have cruise control it will require the latest style stalk!

Mk6 wheel looks great is it straight swap

Thanks very much. Nah sorry not planning on selling them well certainly havent thought about it. prob just keep them as spares!

Looks awesome after the detail. What products and process did you use to get that finish?

It went in for paint work last year so after that it had a enhancement detail and protected with swissvax endurance which is great for over winter.  The recent pictures are more of a maintenance wash.  Basically washing two bucket method with dodo juice born to be mild and, then any areas that looked a little dull were treated with a coat of dodo juice lime prime and poorboys black hole glaze.  All cleaned up with dodo QD and a layer of Dodo purple haze pro wax added on top, after leaving it a little while a final touch up with Dodo red mist really adds to the look. thats pretty much it for that latest detail, pretty happy the way has come out,  :happy2:

Thanks very much.  Yeah the Mk6 wheel is one of my fav mods and works really well with the RNS510.  If you find one just make sure it comes with the controle module.  The engine cover is a Neuspeed one.  can pick them up through Awesome Gti.  the one i have is more of a half cover but works well with any intake.

Stunning ED30 mate.  :happy2:
Thanks very much appreciate it. :happy2:

After a recent clean.

And the run at the awesome Gti rolling road day managed 329bhp and 385 ft lbs torque. Misfire issue at the top end so high pressure fuel pump now at the top of the list :)

All comments welcome.  And after a good bit of driving over the weekend can't fault all the handling mods the h&r anti roll bars with the polybushing and kwv3 are all seem to be settled in perfectly. Now just for that fuel pump and stage 2+ here we come :)

Super nice car rhys :congrats:

Is all that torque going threw the standard clutch?

Thanks very much, it's all starting to come together now.

Yeah at the moment it is going through the standard clutch and to be fair its held up well so far as it was mapped to stage 2 a while back last year some time. But on the hunt for a fuel pump to help with some issues and going to do clutch at the same time then I hope.

Thanks, yeah still have the original tho! Pics don't really show but it does match the mk6 wheel a lot better when you see it. Yeah road trip was on the way up to north Wales! Good roads up there!

They are my standard ones :) just wrapped them! Easiest way to hide and scratches too. A gloss wrap or matt coloured would be fine to keep a more standard look.

thought its been a while since an update -  running APR2+ now thanks to APR HPFP and S3 golf R cooler, also now with Helix clutch and single mass flywheel.
Changed intake to the ITG and along with ths engine mounts and ECS pcv update running nice and smooth.

The H&R ones are 26mm front and 22mm solid arb set up. Very nice set with to be honest and come as a front and rear set

They do they do a 28 from and and a 24 rear I think! Or even a 26 rear!  Too much for me those! But these are solid bar construction compared to standard tubular design.  Most other brands have the same sort of set up but often a 23 rear

They would be a lot stiffer yes. But the 26/22 option does have adjustability in the settings so you can tweak them. To be honest I find the the turn in great with that set up. What suspension set up you currently running mate?

Cool, some people do just upgrade the rear only. My setting is currently on medium for the 22 rear and it's great for me. I had them fitted the same time as other suspension parts, WALK and polybushing etc so couldn't say about that individual piece alone but as a suspension package I like the 26/22 package nothing over the top just grey handing and comfort.
