Title: cold weather ticking noise
Post by: cross on November 01, 2012, 07:11:49 pm
Hello
I was   wondering  if anyone can  help  me please. Since  the weather   turned   colder  (say  last friday) i  have been  hearing  this  ticking  noise  coming    on and  off when the   engine  is  idle, possibly  coming  from  the   engine  but  i  can  hear  it  just  above  the foot pedals. I initially  thought  it  was  something  vibrating  in the  glove box but  emptied everything. The  noise  is  really  annoying as  it  comes  and   goes  and    tends  to  stop  when it's   warmed  up  but  starts again when on a  sloppy  road. I have  recently changed the timing  belt and   quite  confident  its  not  that,  besides  the  normal diesel sound  the  car  has  is  still  there. I was  thinking  its  possibly  the  engine  mountain  that needs  replacing  but  can't  be  sure. I'm  hoping  for  any  advise or  if  anyone  else  has  experienced  this.

Thanks

When you say cold weather is the car also cold, i.e is the noise more predominant during the warm up period?

Check it's not the fuel lines pulsing on the chassis leg, you could have disturbed them doing the belt, quite common
