Ok so I thought I'd better start a thread - as usually my cars turn out pretty smart with a few nice touches!!
I bought the Jetta back at the start of October to replace 3 other cars! My home built mk3 polo coupe, a Fabia VRS & a VW Touran. (Polo sold in the first week - the other 2 are currently on gumtree).
Ive only owned vw's (mostly polo's) here are a few of my old cars!
Fabia VRS

My old mk4 polo - Amber - circa 2000!

So you get the point!
I had the wheels & stereo fitted the day I got the car!! 18" Phaeton champions & a pioneer double din iPod & Bluetooth unit, a 4 channel amp & all the audio upgraded.

Even though its the Sport it's got nothing on it at all - other than the central arm rest and a few pieces of broken trim!!
Since them I've fitted it with a set of genuine mudguards for a bargin price of £9.50 (spelt wrong on eBay) & had a play around with some red vinyl!!
Before:-

Not sure if I like it yet or to do the outer lights too??
Any feedback greatly received - yes I know it needs hit with the lowering stick. But these will all come in time as I sell the other cars!!
-
I'd do them all red mate as it looks like two different sets of lights at the minute. Good to see another jetta owner on the forum theres afew of us now .
-
Need to get more red vinyl then!!!!
-
looks good, but all red for rears IMO :happy2:
-
Nice Jetta that's the best colour too, not been biased or anything :happy2:
-
ordered some more vinyl - still got the original templates so easy to make some more. going to redo the inner ones too as they have a few bubbles and creases. But im on holiday next week so i'll get it done then.

Looking forward to the results! Never seen it before
-
I had the choice of 5 Jetta's at the time - all the same model, at different dealerships with prices from £4000 - £10000.
I didnt buy the £10K one because it was black (too many black cars recently.
I didnt buy a dark blue one (it was listed incorrectly as a manual, but it was a DSG), there was a white one, but it was a 2.0T 200bhp manual & again it was listed as a diesel. I saw this one and instantly fell in love with the colour - even with all its marks, scratchs, broken pieces of trim and random pieces missing.
I've got another front end that i'm getting colour coded instead of chrome - same with the lower trim & the outer sections, i'm getting the grill slats all done in black and i'm picking up a set of std headlights (on wednesday) that i'm going to split and paint the inner sction body coloured also - i'm also going to modify the outer lamps with sidelights and modify where the indicator side so they whole band flashes orange.
-
Tail light help!!
Ok so i've just received a set of Jap spec rear lights - however they arent LED's!!! They are just std normal bulbs - plugged them all in and fitted them (sorry no pics) and nothing works - just the bulb warning lights come on the dash. only the front headlights / indicators / side repeaters work - HELP!
-
I stand corrected on this, but the LED's are wired differently to the halogen bulb units. I know that when the guys in the US change over to Euro LED's, they need to change / add / cut some wiring to get them working.
What do the Jap spec rears look like and why are you going away from LED's? One of the best points of the Jetta imo.
-
Would you be looking to sell your current front end? PM me?
-

The jap spec ones look the same as these, but they have the foglight & reverse light the right way round for the uk
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi17.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb58%2Fmrdubstyle%2Fa62114d1c2277edc762a1fecb8f13062.jpg&hash=4fba9939816912dfa52f9669158e1b12f3b3a412)
I thought about fitting the inner ones as is, but removing the outer lenses and fitting them over the std uk lamps with the LEDs??
I'm usually pretty good with things like this - I was the first to fit mk5 polo tail lights to the mk4 & put the wiring guide and how to on club polo.
You options?
-
Removing the outer lenses and then putting them on the LED lights probably won't work as you have to break the outer lenses off and they probably wouldn't fit so well on the other lenses because of this.
Not sure of what they look like inside, but maybe your best option would be to cut the backs off in exactly the same place and then transplant them over into the JAP lights? No idea how practical or feasible this would be though.
Are you trying to replicate the all red, bar the centre bit look? Why not tint your existing LED tails? Probably save you headaches in the long run. I am looking at doing some lamin-x on mine, but the lighter tint.
-
I've already tried the red laminx on the inner lamps, it's got lots of blisters and lots of creases (first attempt!) but when I tried the outers they looked awful. Definitely not the easiest shape to tint! Which is why this jap spec + led idea came to be!
I may just buy a spare rear lamp to take apart and see how it goes, if its anything like taking the golf ones apart (in the skyline style tail lights guide) then it maybe pretty easy to do.
-
This is what you want then:
http://www.ecstuning.com/News/Volkswagen_Jetta_MKV_Tail_Lights/ES1306715/ (http://www.ecstuning.com/News/Volkswagen_Jetta_MKV_Tail_Lights/ES1306715/)
-
Basically I want the tail lights all red, but still the LEDs! Thought the jap spec ones were LEDs - turns out they are just bulbs!! Live & learn
-

Surely red film on the outside of the lights covering the whole lot would work?
-
I've found a lamp online for a few £££ - going to wait for it to arrive and see if I can split that. I ain't doing anything to the jap ones just yet as I've put them back in their boxes for now.
Also my other roll of red vinyl should arrive soon, so going to use lots of soapy water and some heat!!!
-
Soapy water is your friend if your having issues! Failing that, im sure a professional wouldnt be too much for them to wrap it for you if your pleased with the colour, just not the lines and bubbles in it! :P
-
True!!!
-
Yep, warm soapy water has always worked a treat for me working your way from the inside out, then using a heat gun to allow the covering to stretch and conform to the compound shapes and over the edges.
Keep us updated on how you get on.
-
Will do!!
-
Postman brought me more red vinyl. Going to get started on it at the weekend. Oh and hoping to get rid of a pair of headlights I bought to split & paint (1 Hella, 1 depo!) so I can afford a set Hella xenon look headlights
-
Postman brought me more red vinyl.
So I can afford a set Hella xenon look headlights
That was nice of the postman! Wasnt that exactly what you wanted?!
As for the headlights. They look the bomb and definatly a mod worth doing !
-
found a hella supplier in Germany that can get rhd ones for £270 delivered! Woohoo! Should get them ordered on payday!
-
No further forward with the headlights upgrade yet. Also no further forward with the tail lights.
I've been concentrating on updating the front end.! I bought a GT front grill off ebay for £8 - so stripped it down and took the painted panel to the local bodyshop I use. they are smoothing the numberplate mounting holes and painting the panel in the same colour as the car - pic it up on Thursday - sort out how to mount the plate now! I have an Alfa 156 offset number plate mount (also an ebay find) and i'll remove the covering bracket under the headlight and mount it onto that somehow!
-
Just got a bargin on ebay for the Jetta - genuine roof bars for £52 - new in box from a VW dealers! :)
-
Nice find, let me know how the numberplate holder gets on :happy2: Would be interesting to see

Smooth front end trial fit (also a quick wash) - sorry about the ride height - I'm waiting for the coilover fairy to bring me a present at Christmas!

New xenon-style headlights on their way
-
Turns out the roof bars are actually for a Jetta Sportwagen - otherwise known as a Golf estate - Doh!
-
Nice! :happy2: Looking very good :happy2:
-
Not sure what im going to do with the front ends I have now - I may just fit this for shows and keep my original front grill on it most of the them.
-
Alrighty Polo6
Just seen your post on my new member thread, i like the colour coded front grill on your colour. Phaeton alloys look good on Jetta too.
Need to see pictures of your Alfa numberplate mod, I am thinking (not done) of sticking on a bra (new in bag) to front of mine and stick a sticky numberplate to this. Sticky plates not legal (caterham/mx5/rx8 have them) but better than none as i keep ducking when 5o go past me.
Must be nice to have a choice to change front ends, if you were ever to sell 1 i know Chris 763 is after 1.
Keep up the good work
-
Good to see a few Jettas on here. Loved them since I went to Shark and they had Darkside's Jetta there.
-
I've got a 50% size plate sitting here ready to go on a home made bracket (the Alfa one looked sh*t when i lined it up)
I bought another of the headlight washer inserts, which is just black plastic and screwed a metal bracket to it & im going to stick the small plate to the bracket. (I hope you followed that!)
I'll get pics once its fitted!
-
New headlights fitted!

I'll get the smoth front on it at the weekend with the new headlights too - still waiting on my Votex from splitter and boot spoiler! ;)
I've got coilovers coming from the modification fairy at christmas! And i've also got 312mm Gti brake setup sitting here!

:happy2: Lovely looking Jetta fella
-
Still got so much left to do!
Ed30 front splitter
R-line foglign covers and centre lower grill
Fit my smooth front clip & relocate the number plate
Finish tinting the rear lights
Fit The GLi side skirts and rear valance
Fit my Votex 3 piece boot spoiler
New wheels are on the cards
And I want all this done before I move house at the end of March!
-
Sounds like a mighty plan but with not alot of time!
-
Got most of the parts ordered and paid for - but need over £1000 for the rims!
-
Just ordered more parts from VW! And powerflex
Also worked out the ET I need if I go for 9" all round!
-
Looking foward to all the changes! Hope they happen as fast as you hope :happy2:
-
Been offered a brand new set of 8.5x18 & 9.5x18 3sdm 0.05's in the right offset for less than £600. So tempted - but so common! (not around here though - im in the middle of no where in Scotland!)

Does look tempting!!!
-
Looks mighty tempting!
-
I know!!!
But I so love the flat face of the Comps! I will only be doing wheels once (unless someone asks if they are for sale!) The 9x18 Comps are my ideal rim - I love the style & design and I tend not to go with the crowd - everywhere you look online everyone has BBS, Rotiform or 3sdm's (not that thats a bad thing) but I have my own style
-
Comps do look ace, i like the MO6 ones and nearly bought some for a mazda but would have fit with wobble bolts!

Ahhh that top pic is my wallpaper on my laptop atm.... Does make me drool
-
Would love to get my hands on some rml snowflakes but they're rarer than a rare thing in this country!!
-
I know £1025 + import tax for the 1552 snowflakes. That's why they are so rare!!
-
The new 3sdms 0.06 would look sick!!
-
I found them on on the Bean garage site for a little less than that but still a lot of spondoolies!
The 0.06s are sweet but but the 0.05s on the 3sdm Jetta sell :notworthy: it for me
-
If you want 3SDM wheels speak to Matt @ Balls'd on 01638 715149 and he'll look after you with good prices :happy2:
-
I'm in with an mate for items at trade. £85ea for 8.5 & £95ea for 9.5. Plus vat & delivery - so £400ish now for new 0.05's
-
I'm in with an mate for items at trade. £85ea for 8.5 & £95ea for 9.5. Plus vat & delivery - so £400ish now for new 0.05's
Hell thats cheap!! Chances of me getting them for anywhere near that price are slim to none.... Will have to pop down and see Mat and see what he can do...
-
Just get them bought! :happy2:
-
Really like this ...I also have a jetta tdi and a jetta wagon (golf variant ) ;D
sent using my own fingers
-
Still not decided what to buy yet!!
Money no object it would be Schmidt Space 3pc 8.5x18 & 9.5x18. But the are rarer than an honest politician!!
-
You could always go down the 'euro' route and get the space 17's.... common as a bent politician :happy2:
-
Looking good on the coils Polo6 :congrats:
Get someone to photoshop the wheels on the car that your looking at.
Looking forward to picture updates of mods ready to fit :happy2: Saloons all day long!!

^^^^^ Very nice
Skirts look rubbish and don't match front or rear.
Now do the Schmidt.
-
Can't find any pics of the right Schmidt rims. The the the old Skool flat 5 spoke 3 piece rims, not the modern lines. I thought they were called Space. But now I'm not sure!!

I'll keep an eye on this, looks promising.

Looks bloody brilliant!
-
Deal done on the 0.06's! Just got to wait now!
-
Did you go for staggered fitment?? I really can't decide...on one hand I love the staggered look but on the other its a front-wheel-drive after all and it'd all be a lie having fat back paws.
In my mind I keep thinking of those fake second exhausts on boy-race chariots :fighting:
-
Good decision! :happy2:
-
:congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats:
Cant wait for the pictures its gonna look
Have you got the rubber for them?
-
8.5x18 et 42 all round with 225/40/18's. going to have my rear arches pulled a little, or I have to raise it a bit!
Plus it means I can upgrade to the 9.5's if I wanted. It is meant to be a family car after all!!
-
Done as you said andy and joined up, you know what i think of your jetta!

When are they coming
I have recently got F1 Assy 2 xl's and they are really really good, can't recommend them enough :happy2:
-
As soon as they are the supplier i'll get a call! ;)
-
Been having a wheel rethink - saw the 0.06's on a jetta already - not convinced I like them. So I'm still looking - maybe Ronal R50's, or comp MO's.
But I did order my R-line bits and pieces - pick them up on Thursday
-
Hey Andy
Can you post up the lower grill R-line part numbers, my local stealer is having trouble getting them right.
Regards to wheels, get someone to photoshop them on for opinions.
-
Newbie jetta question....
what are these r line bits you speak of?

I'm guessing the fog light grilles!?

Ok so a few things done recently!
First - interior rear window blind

Good overall fit, but you still get wet with drips if the window is open too much and you wash/wipe the windscreen.
R-line foglight grill fitted
A few mods have to be carried out to them to make them fit the jetta (3 lugs don't line up with the holes, you can trim them off and they will hold in place fine due to the screw) also they are a slightly different shape around the leading edge.

And I apologies for how dirty the car is - I've just done around 200 miles in 2 days, too and from a family wedding & a shopping trip. On snowy/salted roads!!

Liking the Rear Screen :happy2: where from and how much?
Liking the wind deflectors :happy2: shame about drips
Loving the R-line grills  real shame on the outer edge, would a golf bumper with Jetta grills solve this?
Much improved :happy2: NOW GO AND WASH IT !!
-
Rear screen off eBay £30 genuine parts (400182621069 is the item number)
That's why you put the rear windows down 1/2 an inch!! Already got the drips sorted!!
The R-line grill would technically go straight on a golf GTi or GT sport. I'm not 100% convinced yet. Even though I trimmed the clips to make them fit - if I sold them on they would still fit securely to a golf bumper.
Ill get round to washing it!!
More oem parts en route!!

This is the problem I had when I fitted mine today  , so ATM they're off whilst I try to mod the fittings :happy2:
-
Did you have to trim the 3 clips off too?
-
Next parts to order - GTi front spoiler, GLi side skirts & Gli rear valance. maybe a private plate - so I can get away with a US spec number plate size
-

Just grab yourself a US spec. boot then you'll have an excuse for the plate...and it looks far better anyway :P
-
I've already found a us spec boot lid too!!
-
Maybe found new rims - totally marmite
But 8 & 9x18?
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi17.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb58%2Fmrdubstyle%2F73d10a5c103d9460e0a4dbfd464b2fc3_zpse5d784f2.jpg&hash=12baf0e5808078940189625400c6232c38394f9c)
-
The reason I'm looking at different rims is the 0.06's aren't going to be available until the end of April (production issues), 0.05's are out of stock & I just can't justify over a grand on just rims for the Compomotives!!
So I'm after alternatives!!
-
I like marmite :happy2:
U.S. spec. parts mixed with Euro look wheels....its so crazy it might just work!
-
Good Choice
-
Wow!! Surprised by the reactions!! Thought 3 spokes were a no no!!??

Something different rather than multispokes!
I think it will look good!

Hmm your gonna need air to pull these off :signLOL:
They look good and no-one has them on a Jetta :happy2:
-
Already looking into a half & half kit. (Remove helper on the front & inserts in the rear spring cup - but still a coilovers kit) but £1600!!
-
I quite like them too
-
May have to upgrade brakes too - GTi brakes are going to look a little small in the rims
-
I know someone whod buy your gti brakes....
-
I know someone whod buy your gti brakes....
Me
-
I'm thinking about going for a set of wide 17's due to the price of 18" tyres being £100 a corner. I've been offered a set of 8.5x17 & 9.5x17 BBS RM rims in the correct 5x112 / 57.1 / et35/40 with 225/45/17 tyres
-
Just had to replace my drivers side wiper arm - it just stripped the inner of the arm on the mechanism - its a soft alloy insert that takes on the imprint of the splints on the mech - take them off too often (fitting suspension/brakes etc) and dont put them back on in the exact same place - the alloy gets worn away!
£38 worse off!!
Also the jetta is going to be helping me move house tomorrow!
-
Where did you find the R line fog grilles? I've been looking for ages with no luck.
-
Been offline for a while (moving house!)
Damaged the Jetta which moving stuff in the boot! One dead Sub! (right through it to the mag with a curtain pole!!) And its a discontinued model so no way to just replace it! Oh well I'll just have to get out my old competition equipment! infinity Airfree 12" 1200W sub & a Black Widow 2400W Digital mono out of my old Fabia! I've been warned It may pop out the rear window if the air pressure gets to high!
As per wheels - definately going to get wide 17's and run 215/45 on the front and 225/45 on the back = lower and no scrubbing!
-
Ok - so things haven't been so productive of late. But that is soon to change!!
-
Noticed a Canadian spec jetta GLi breaking on eBay - same colour as mine! :happy2:
-
Share the link Andy! :happy2:
-
Some of the prices he wants for the GLI parts are stupid £500 for the boot lid :stupid: and the same for the front bumper.
-
Found it now, wow £325 for black headliner :scared: well over priced!
-
Yeah, he doesn't seem to be living in the same world as we do with those prices. Crazy............
-
You can buy a brand new tailgate & get it painted & fitted for that!!
Sorry mate - scene tax on these doesn't apply
-
I've been warned It may pop out the rear window if the air pressure gets to high!
There's about as much chance of you winning the Euromillions
-
I did it on my old polo g40 - the window shattered!! Jetta's is bonded - just my old man having a go!!
-
New rear discs & pads. Also had to replace p/s rear caliper - handbrake mech seized!!
-
I had to replace my d/s caliper when i changed my rears! calipers are known to seize!
-
Nice car mate, as said you picked the best colour!

Your rear lights look very similar to what VW put on the EOS. I for one quite like them.
-
Still want to see what all red looks like.
New sub and amp fitted!!
-
I quite fancied getting a sub again!
-
I had to reset all my levels on the radio!! Much better now - also fitted a kill switch to the remote line, so if I don't want the sub on, then I flick the kill switch, job done! (Especially good for mothers & small babies!!)
-
Ive said id do that to her but se still aint keen!
-
Let me know if you want it done, power cable is an arse!!
-
ive got a wiring kit lying there, may do it if i can find a cheap cheap sub!
Got the brakes all ordered the day!
-
Are you keeping the R Line grilles then?
-
probably not! Goint to wrap the chrome on my original grills in Matt Grey first - then they will be up for sale!
New wheels coming soon!
-
New wheels collected!
-
New wheels collected!
Show us a sneaky picture Andy :happy2:
-
probably not! Goint to wrap the chrome on my original grills in Matt Grey first - then they will be up for sale!

I'd be really quite interested in them should they become available
-
Ok - a sneak peak before I get them refurbed!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi17.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb58%2Fmrdubstyle%2Fc6e83f541d6870df2b9da28541088e81_zpsf0261c26.jpg&hash=e55151e5805e3db5aa3942990d1630d0ef2bb241)
All 4 are 8.5x18 et35 - going to get them stripped, polish the lip and either do them with colour coded centres or gold, bolts are going to be black with AMG centres and hopefully 215/40's all round.
-
Very nice, good choice, I look forward to seeing these on Andy :happy2:
-
There is one other set of these for sale on eBay for £1800!!!! I paid a lot less than that for them
-
Trial fit on the back:-

An 8.5x18 et35 with a 225/40/18 tyre. Epic fail in the scrubbing!!
So tyres all removed (good ones going on eBay!) centres removed. Turns out the bolts are proper metal, so the wheels have already been dropped at a local place for acid strip. Then the hard work starts!
-
Looking good Andy
What colour are they gonna be?
jealous of your mudflaps!
-
Not sure yet!
Maybe gold centres, polished lip & black bolt heads
Or
Maybe colour coded centres, polished lip & gold bolt heads.
Tyres are 215/40's I think!! (Maybe 35's for a bit extra clearance!!) plus ill do the front arch bolt mod to give extra space too!!
-
They are looking mighty close there fella!
The rears on the Jetta are far closer than the fronts tho...
Looking at your pics makes me think I need to be removing my rear adjusters to give me a bit more (or less as the case may be!)
They do suit tho sir :congrats:
-
Think I'm going for satin black barrels, colour coded centres, enamel black coated bolts and a polished lip.
Plus I'm going to have to get rids of a few things to get the tyres, longer wheel bolts, 66.6-57.1 spigots, new centres and that's before I worry about camber adjustments for the back!!
-
Rims are proving to be a little troublesome! They have been repainted so many times & with so many layers of primer and lacquer that the dippers have said they wont be ready until at least Monday (already tried dipping them 3 times!)
-
Just found myself a pair of 10x18 merc split rims, same make, style etc as the 8.5's that I already have. Organised to go and see them on Monday!! :surprised:
Also decided to take advantage of the good weather. Washed with 2 bucket method, lambs wool mitt, clay bar kit came out, residue washed off and towelled dry, ultimate wax kit, trim detailed & finally tyre protector. £100+ worth of meguiars cleaning stuff I've had for a while & never used.
The results:-

Looks awesome! What are you going to do with the champions?
-
Wow, that looks stunning!
-
Not sure yet - I've got 5 of them too!! A few marks on them from before I bought them. One of them (the spare) use to be on the car, but my sister kerbed it, so I made her buy me a new rim!! I warned her before I leant her the car she couldn't use the kerb to help her park. She has never since asked to borrow my car - result!!
-
So it does come up clean, i have been wondering :notworthy:
It does look spanking Andy :drinking:
-
Weather has been crappy for ages! Always nice when I'm working!!
Only took 3hrs!!
-
Wheels are stripped and ready to collect tomorrow morning! Woohoo! Now its going to take roughly 16 hours a rim to polish them!
-
16 hours :rolleye:
-
Wow!
Rims look like this currently
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi17.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb58%2Fmrdubstyle%2Fnull_zps74cc0ad0.jpg&hash=0934fbbec645b218e44e30bc152d062542f36c1c)
I just had a minutes on a rim with some old sanding blocks, some peek & and old towel & I got an almost mirror shine off it!!! Maybe they won't take too long!!
-
Ok, so i'm definately polishing the lip, and the dish. But chat colour do you thing would look best on the car??
Gold centres?
Diamond Black Pearl?
Colour coded??
-
I think they are too chunky to pull gold off! Black or anthracite?
-
Ok, so i'm definately polishing the lip, and the dish. But chat colour do you thing would look best on the car??

Doing something similar and it's very important to pick what YOU want and not what other people say or suggest.
The point of splits is to give you the variety and choice to do what you want, you have lips, barrels, bolts and faces to play with.
I don't mean to sound rude or whatever but really, wheels are up to you on colour man. Spend some time on Google looking through finishes to get an idea of what you want..
-
They are fake splits (making them even harder to refurb!) the bolts have all been glued into place on the thread - 2 came out, 2 rounded and 1 snapped! so having to polish, then mask the polished section, then pick my paint and do the centres, lacquer them. remove the mask, then pick out the bolts in black . I'm thinking that colour coded would look amazing, but wouldnt suit many other cars when it comes to selling them on.
-
Went an look at the 10"x18 Splits - they are the same make as the ones i have, even the same offset (et35) - getting them on the Jetta would be a challenge I think i'm not even ready to take on at teh moment! Shame - think I could of got them for about £100!
he also offered me a set 19" Merc Lorisner rims too! Shame one is bent! :(
-
So started this morning with this:-
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi17.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb58%2Fmrdubstyle%2F18eb679e9dc39cea5b5d50384c4686f0_zpse9c8c77c.jpg&hash=2676f3cf6e6a560aa1348b88e8578e1d4ecdc472)
Use a small file to fix the outer lip (kerb marks etc) then onto 80grit paper, then 160, then 320, then 600, then 1500, polishing mop with autosol!!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi17.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb58%2Fmrdubstyle%2Fbaa562fa1df1cc6823de6f5e1cbe7f67_zps3f659497.jpg&hash=c3b72cafb764e81096c023f609bc7ed636d00e93)
Then onto a finer metal polish & another polishing mop
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi17.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb58%2Fmrdubstyle%2F7839c26d2868751ce2a232a631b37b65_zps0b7f2988.jpg&hash=310c100f843d062ffbb299feab026aa381d4c382)
And repeat!!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi17.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb58%2Fmrdubstyle%2F93d8bbf9337f7640959904f095582903_zps89a2ba3a.jpg&hash=0e11a2339509022d7b09293845126a50e000682d)
That's 2 done! 2 to go, then onto painting the rest of them. Thought of a colour I love, so going to paint them that colour! Could be controversial!!
-
Thought it was about time I introduced my daughter Rebekah (shes my oldest at 9) to the world of modifying!! Now this could go very well or very badly. I had a talk over the parts I've worked on explained why I've changed them. She understood everything perfectly. Even repeating it back to me & asking questions!!
I then asked if she would like to help me finish as job I started earlier!! She ofcourse jumped at the chance - so I thought it about time I finished wrapping my tail lights. I removed the passengers side one. And she copied and with a little help removed the drivers side one.
I wrapped my one. She had a go at wrapping the other one.
Here are our results!!! Mine is on the left - hers is the one on the right.

-
No comment from anyone!!??
-
Hers is better than yours!
-
Yes I know! All I've her from her all day is "mine turned out better than Daddy's" don't think I'm going to live that down quickly!!
-
Nice progress with wheels Andy, but 16hrs

Have you been stopped yet for not having yellow indicators??
-
Indicators still flash orange!! Ill get a pic later!! (P.s still looking for them wind deflector clips! I've put them somewhere SAFE!)
-
Yep - 2 wheels to go, about another 8hrs of polishing ahead. Then I still have to mask them up, 3 layers of primer (rubbed down between each layer) then satin black. Then colour over the top x 3 layers. Then lacquer x 3 layers. Paint colour chosen - its controversial too!!

Surely the hours of work you are putting in is controversial!! Will your daughter not help? :signLOL:

Do you know if you we get LED's for the front indicators? I would love some
-
Yes you can. But mine are Depo aftermarket projectors anyway! Different bulbs!!

What wheels did you get in the end?
Where they the 10 inch wide rears?
-
They are 8.5x18 et 35 all round. I did have a chance of 10x18 rears, but too low an offset
-
Looks good mate,
Does look like her ones a lot better lol
:P
-
Looks good Andy but your daughters light looks better
-
Paint for centres of the new wheels showed up today!! Bit brighter than I had expected :rolleye:
-
What happens when the sun comes out? PHOTOSHOOT!! Fitted some new bits and pieces, then went out to the distillery and got some pics!!

Still a work in progress - wheels to finish next & back box delete too.
-
Looks really nice ...know its been asked before but what wheels are they ? And what they off ?
sent using my own fingers
-
They are called 'Champions' and they are from the VW Phaeton.
-
Very nice oem wheel
sent using my own fingers
-
Comes up lovely when clean! Nice stance too, not sure about the rear plate size? Unless you have a US tailgate on the way.
:happy2: with the de-chromed front grill
When are you removing the rest of the chrome :happy2:
Cant wait to see the wheel colour
-
I'm going to try and sort out the chrome with some of that new gunmetal grey plastidip spray. I'm aiming for a American tailgate eventually, along with some of the GLi parts.
I'm having second thoughts about this paint colour!! Hopefully the new wheels will look great in it. Picked a bit of a bright fun colour for a change. No silver or black. Now worried I've not gone for something too much out of the ordinary & it's going to look crap!
Wheels are champions - off a phaeton. I have 5 of them too. They are 7.5x18 et 40. And I'm running 225/40's.
-
Pics are cool!
-
Going to try and get backbox delete sorted on Thursday when I'm on a day off.
-
Been trying to think about how to bring the wheel colour in line with another part of the car, so that it ties together. So I was thinking about getting a pair of wing mirror covers and spraying them the same colour as the wheels - like the Porsche 911 GT3 RS?

Nice little chirp from the turbo when you back off, plus a whistle under acceleration. Plus cheaper than I had thought!!

Like that 8)

Looks great Andy and with added chirp and whistle Love that :congrats:
Record it and post it up here
Couple-o-things
Does it affect the emissions?
Your rear tyre is low on the inside
-
New tyres on order for new rims. They are still legal - just!
Smokes a little more when you floor it. But note is quite pleasant - ill get a recording next time I'm out.
-
Painting rims starts on Wednesday next week. Bit nervous about the colour still
-
Wheel spigots arrived today. Going upto garage early tomorrow to finish polishing the last 2 wheels, then get them all masked at in primer.
I've been thinking about wheel centres colour - still not sure about this!!
I've been through:-

Alfa nuoarvi silver (sp)
Audi phantom black
Vw flash red
And I bought 6 cans of one of them already - just not sure what to do yet!!

I needs 6 cans to do rims & wing mirrors.
I've to 1 rim left to finish - 1 left to start. Then mask, prime & paint. Got all day Monday to myself!!
-
Car is looking really good!
-
Tyres on their way - bolts ordered. Primer should be ready for its next coat tomorrow - paint is waiting in the wings
-
At least give us a clue on the colour!!
-
Tyres arrived - nice tread pattern too!!
Colour is still being decided!!
I bought 6 cans of gold paint - after seeing a grey jetta on gold centred merc rims. Not convinced on colour yet. But will look smart either way. Could still go with a bright red?? Or even a nice dark grey metallic (like anthracite) or the Audi pearl black.
-
Need your headlights!
-
Sorry - I'm still using them!!
-
Tyres being fitted this morning!! Can't wait to see them all fitted up!!
-
Well it's taken a while to sort them out - they were a total state! Under the paintwork, there was corrosion, deep scratches, marks & kerbing, that I as a home restorer could never think I could make perfect - so here are my results.
This wasn't my first choice in colour, but it's still nice!!

It clears the arches (just and no more!) - may have to sacrifice 10mm of the ride height in the back to stop it scrubbing.
-
I like! Any refurbing tips? Got a set of wheels to do soon!
-
Take your time!! I could have done more layers of primer, and maybe more paint. It's got a few marks on them already as the paint is still soft. So may have to re-do them again at some point!!
-
Looking forward to them been gold
-
I decided not to go with gold in the end.
-
I decided not to go with gold in the end.
Glad you didn't go gold in the end, they look spot on :happy2:
Pictures do look a bit dark tho.
What centre caps are on them?
Is you mate making more back box deletes? (may be interested)
-
Went to my old branch of Halfords - looked through the 2013 paint codes for most of the vag family - ended up at a lamborghini colour called deep carbon metallic (as far as I could read German!) clicked on it to get some made up - took us to the mix for ford graphite grey!! It's exactly the same colour!!!
Centres are mercedes ones.
No idea about the back box - I can ask him!!
-
Took the car for a good family day out (4-up) - and I've got less scrubbing with the wider rims than I had before!!
-
Car seems to be all over the road!! Went to tesco to check the tyre pressure.
This is what I found:-
Front tyres were 38psi & 41psi
Rear tyres were 39psi & 42psi!!
All down to 31psi - sorted!!
-
Well - I've been off sick since Wednesday - missed going camping with my mates this weekend. Would have spent a good £100+ going down etc, saved the cash to spend on the car. Thinking about a car related private plate - and a new front splitter - maybe another set of rims.
-
Another set?!
-
Yep afraid so - another set of 18" merc rims!!
-
Similar design or different?
-
Something different - maybe Segins, Alphards, Carlssons or Lorinser. Just need something new to work on.
-
Ok so been a while since I've been online - a few issues with my Jetta. New water pump faulty causing lose of coolant and possibly skipped a few teeth on the timing belt. It's been in the garage almost 12 days now.
The parts supplier to the garage has accepted responsibility to repair the car due to the water pump failure (only changed in March) hoping to picking it up on Monday - going on holiday in it on Tuesday.
So I had to treat myself to something new to play with!!!!
-
Something new? :happy2:
-
How's the Jetta getting on fella??
-
You around Wellingbro dude?
Pretty sure I saw this on the cruise up to camping. Was me, my mate in his red S4 and a black Mk4 as well.
Recognised the odd-silver valance lol
-
Love the phaeton champions, wouldn't mind them on my mk5 :)
-
Wasn't me! I'm in Crieff in Scotland. Car has been off the road due to an incident with the police!! Didn't know my MOT had ran out weeks ago - given a warning and let me go home, booked in the next day & it failed on a knackered pair of FK droplinks. Got a replacement pair free of charge as they are only about 6 months old. All fitted and now running well & road legal again.
Just goes to prove though - bought the car in October last year, told t had a fresh mot on it - so didn't expect it to be due yet!
New parts coming soon!!
-
Not really been feeling the Jetta love recently - so I'm going to give it a bit of TLC and a good run on Thursday - Hopefully new plates soon!
-
Well I'm finally back in the Jetta! it still looks the same and goes the same. But this is all to change soon! :)
-
Welcome back, tell us more of whats changing!!
-
Welcome back  We need to see recent pictures :happy2:
-
I'm afraid I've been ignoring the mk5 for a while due to always picking this over it:-
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fb58%2Fmrdubstyle%2F8583bd3ecef34787d5499adc671dc4b9_zps626d98b2.jpg&hash=4378887343f097b827163f605828431e248417b3)
And helping rebuild this:-

My mate hit a tree and bent the shell beyond repair, then bought another one the same with a seized engine...
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi17.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb58%2Fmrdubstyle%2F2f1013aed40a19d7a4b1f01245f7ac94_zps78300af7.jpg&hash=21a97fef8068ad1bb29169c840428d050e3224d5)
I'm still on the merc rims, but paint is lifting a little. So time for a repolish & repaint in something better?? (Read brighter)
American spec number plates & a fmic twintercooler on a TDi - don't mind if I do!!!
-
Had it at the SVAG annual show at the weekend - some post wash pics before the show:-

Slightly annoyed my front grill hasn't show up, and never got round to fitting the American size plates. But I'll get there!!
Maybe time to out the Phaeton's back on
-
Stunning :happy2:
-
Cheers!
Merc rims removed and now for sale!
Phaeton rims back on with new tyres - had to raise the car about 15mm as the tyres are slightly wider than the old Falkens! Even though still officially being 225's!
new grill/front end coming soon, along with boot spoiler and Twintercooler! :)
-
Back in the Jetta after a 3 weeks thrash of the mk2! :)
-
Where did you have your rear silencer delete from?
-
Local company made it for me - £150 fitted.. Very nice little rumble on tick over. Will get the rest of the system done this summer - along with a CAT bypass pipe!
Was thinking about one of them forge kits to fit a boost gauge - along with a Voltmeter too
-
Ok cool. I'm wanting one to fit to mine so will have a full straight through. Just trying to find my best option that won't cost as much as a new system.
I have the bits to fit a boost gauge. Is yours a diesel? If so Darkside do an EGR delete which has a port to fit a boost gauge.
-
Was thinking about binning the EGR & the cooler. As you said dark side do the kits. But the guy who mapped it is miles away & I cant get him back to just code out of the dash light that pops up when you do the egr delete - so for the time being it stays.
I was thinking about this kit from forge:-
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.forgemotorsport.co.uk%2Fuserfiles%2Fimages%2Fsys%2Fproducts%2FBoost_Gauge_Adaptor_58370.jpeg&hash=7f637723380b827919c317274bd7896953d9365e)
Just not sure if the MAP sensor is the same on the diesel (- or even if it has one!) ???
-
So my new lower grill arrived - so i can now get on with fitting my Twintercooler & US size plates (offset to the passengers side on a customer bracket - so no flow restriction to intercooler) Then the mother of all turbo's to get modified & rebuilt (Told its off a 3.0 V6 Audi TDi - should make some boost! :surprised:)
Wheels to be refurbished soon too!
-
Fitted my original front grill and new lower grill (hmm Chrome!) while I modify the other parts I have... Looks weird!
-
