If my ed 30 has been on long life oil, is it just case of draining it out and putting normal 5/30 shor life oil in
-
Longlife oil is the only oil you should use in a GTI. This is VW's position, not mine.
Don't put standard oil in.
-
For longlife only 5/30 504.00 can be used, for 10k intervals 5w/40 502.00 can be used or the longlife oil previously mentioned. No 5/30 shortlife oils i have seen meet Volkswagen spec so dont use it,they tend to be for Zetec fords.

Castrol Edge 5/30 seems to be very popular. I guess that this is long life and it's only £35 from ASDA!!
-
Try not to think of it as long life or normal life oil but as Fully Synthetic ("long life") and Semi Synthetic ("normal"). It's very much advised that Golf GTIs should be run on Fully Synthetic Oil for best performance.
-
so what oil is most people using,,, 5w30 - if so any specific brand to recommend
-
Volkswagen uk use Castrol so you may as well get that but really any thats got the spec 504.00 written on it for Longlife.
-
Castrol Edge seems to be the popular choice on here. I'm on Mobil 1 at the moment, only because I got a good deal on it.

So is the TFSI different to the mk6 TSI as my dealers been using VW Quantum platinum 5W40 in our Mk6 GTI the past two years services.
My manual does say 502.00 for non long life or 504.00 for long life. The quantum is approved to VW 502.00
Nevermind I missed Starshaped reply :ashamed:
