Title: DSG - 82k
Post by: tartanmartin85 on November 04, 2012, 03:37:35 pm
I'm currently searching for an ED30/Pirelli and have a question about DSG....

One car I have seen is at 82k, if this was manual and I remapped it I would probably be needing a new clutch. What's the DSG like? Is 82k a concern in terms of clutch life etc? Should I be wary of a high mile DSG?

No issues with mileage, but has it been maintained? check for the all important oil services in the book. Also see if the owner has had the car back to the dealers for any mechatronic work.

Clutch wise it is a wear and tear item that you cannot put a life on. Alternative is for peace of mind warranty direct have warrantied my Eddy fr £350 (obviously clutch, wear and tear items not included) but you would be covered for the dreaded Mechatronic.

Apparently it has a Full Main Dealer Service History apart from last one. Serviced @ 7k, 28k, 46k, 58k, 71k and 82k

Just had Timing Belt / Tensioners / Waterpump / DSG Gear Oil and Filter / Engine Oil and Filter replaced.

Sounds upto date. When you say remap are you talking about an engine remap or a DSG remap. IMP the most risk to your clutch is from a DSG remap as it ups the clamping pressures. Yes an engine remap will put more torque(s) through the box but you can regulate that with your foot.

Clutches will fail on a manual box after a remap.

DSG gearboxes can handle 450+bhp and the torque to go with it  :happy2: without clutch slip. Robin on here has 104,000 miles with his car (GTI Stage2 mods) and the DSG is fine.

Some will start to go without a remap :signLOL:
