Title: Sachs clutch
Post by: blackthorn on November 05, 2012, 05:45:38 pm
Hi guys,

Bought my edition 2 weeks ago, it had a brand new sachs clutch fitted on the 17th of Aug 2012 and it was barely driven since then maybe done 1000miles if your lucky yet it appears to be slipping  it felt like it was slipping 3 days after i got it but i thought it was just TC kicking in but yesterday i was in 4th sitting at 40mph then put the foot down a wee bit say 3/4 boost, the engine started to go on boost but the car didn't feel like it was pulling at all so i really fear the clutch is slipping already! the car has 352bhp 360lbft.

when the clutch was done the DMF was done along with the slave cylinder, the recipt says exactly this:

Dual mass flywheel
2 piece clutch kit
Hydralic slave cylinder

with a total cost of £800

dosen't say the exact clutch fitted but i know it was sachs, or as the owner before me said "it looked a beast" but he dosen't know that much about car's he just drove it...

can anyone help with this? does the clutch have warranty?

cheers,

Andy

Is that including labour!? My sachs (400ftlbs rated) was £600 odd quid on it's own, new DMF and clutch slave + labour took it up to near £1200...

So sounds like a standard sachs clutch or a lesser rated one (think rated to 320ftlbs) and no wonder it's slipping...

If it's an organic, the driving it carefully(say 1000miles) can help take the glaze off... but doesn;t sound right to me...

Mines stage 2+ with no slip...

Yeah thats all in mate DMF, clutch and slave fitted and by the sounds of it its not looking good lol

going to pop upto the garage tomorrow to see exactly what they have fitted to it but i wont be suprised if its the 320lbft one ur talking about :-/ if its the right one fitted though 400lbft then i will be asking them questions! could the slave some how of leaked oil onto it?

i just need the stage 2+ map but i better get this clutch sorted before i get it mapped again eh...

That must be Stage 2+ for that power/torque surely?

Yeah check which one and check fitted correctly...

Yeah get to the garage and get it checked out mate that sounds like they have put a standard clutch in which won't last long with that power.

If you need a new kit then I'd get it done properly and go for the LOBA single mass with 550nm rated Sachs clutch. I had this setup in my S3 and it could handle anything you chucked at it.

The same kit is available for the Golf just not got saound to adding that to the site yet.

Why single? Will be needing a new clutch myself before going any further than my current stage 1. Is a single as friendly as dual for normal everyday, around town traffic use or does that depend on the company that make it?

 :happy2:

Just seen your spec list... that's some car! :congrats:

No wonder it's slipping if they have put a low spec clutch in... LSD and high power  :signLOL:

i am 100% posative that its only a stage 1 map, Craigy could back me up on this one i think! so hopefully once i got stage 2+ i will see abit more power out of her  :driver:

same questions as this man! i don't have a clue about the differences of DMF and SMF? any help would be good on that fron also  :happy2: and with this clutch is it on off or just like a normal clutch with the bite point?

as above Gee 100% its just a stage 1 map as i was on Autographs web site and they offer a package with pretty much the same spec stuff thats on my recipt which is a stage 1 map!
