As title mentions I'm about to uprate my bulbs all round, Going for the Osram night breakers I've got my H7's for dipped and just double checking the mains are H1's?
I've gotta 2005 2.0 GT sport btw :)
Thanks :)
-
No - both main beam and dipped are H7.
I've just replaced mine with Nightbreakers - they're very good.
-
^^^As above , H7 for dipped and main :happy2:

Good job I asked then! Best get another set then!
On that note I can get OSRAM night breakers for a tenner if anyone ever needs any ;)
-
Got the Phillips xtreme from Powerbulbs. If you use Powerbulbs.com, heres a discount code for you......
ZXRCX111 gets you an extra 10% as long as your spending over £15 IIRC. Plus they also chuck in free side light bulbs.

Ahhh no!
Ordered bulbs 2 days ago, just my luck that a discount code would pop up!
-
I've got a set of 6000k HIDs in my Octavia vRS, but would like to go back to halogen bulbs which will give the same oem xenon look,
Anybody recommend the best bulbs to suit?

I bought full price bulbs recently too.
MC does these things on purpose - he's a really nasty piece of work...

MTEC Super white will give a "xenon" look (colour temp 4350k). I doubt if they will give you the best beam however, but not sure if you care about that.

^^^^ lots of peeps going for the MTEC's, might get a set to compare with my Phillips xtreme bulbs and see (no pun intended) what the fuss is about! Just had a look on eBay, £12 a pair.....

Ive just put the MTEC 55w Cosmos Blue in my R26 after reading 'rave reports' on them. I am seriously disapointed in the beam power. Have to think of something else........
-
Ivejust put a set of MTEC bulbs in my car. Drove home on country roads last night, I'd say they were good, perfectly good visibility, I wouldn't necessarily say they seem that much brighter than the original halogens, the light is much whiter though and they look great. If you are purely after maximum brightness I'm sure there are better options.
-
Put it this way, driving on the motorway yesterday and today, I could hardly tell I had my lights on ! (they were, I checked before and after). Cars driving past me (non xenons) were casting light onto the road giving normal road visibility. My Mtec's are coming out for Nightbreakers.
-
have to say that i have MTEC's too and i do a lot of motorway driving and it doesnt look as if the lights are on. they are a bit more white than the original halogens but in terms of beam and range they are terrible and i get better lighting from my fogs which are standard at the moment too.
Just thinking now do i go for nightbreakers or philips xtreme?
-
Yeah I have MTEC's right now due to people on here advising me. And they are very very poor for beam distance. Especially if your car is lowered, you won't see more than about 3-5metres in front of you!

The phillips are a more pure white light. Whereas the nightbreakers sometimes has a tinge of standard halogens. But I hear they are bright enough and have a decent beam length to compare with xenons.

Philips review here: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,41134.0.html
I have Nightbreakers and the beam is very good. They're cheaper than the Philips, but I think they're slightly less powerful.
-
I have the MTEC's in my dipped lights and nighbreakers in the full beam.
As others have said the MTEC's beam is not very good but they look great. The nightbreakers beam is much better and that is why I have them in the full beam :happy2:

Yeah depending where you're from, but most of us can't drive around with full beams on lol

Hi Chris, i'm interested in a pair of H7 osram nightbreaker plus bulbs for £10.
-
I will be fitting my Nightbreakers later on this morning so I shall let you know my thoughts :)
-
Sounds like I will be sticking with my Phillips Xtreme H7 bulbs if any of your experiences with the MTEC's are anything to go by. Will still get a couple to run a side by side and one after the other comparision and will post up some pics and description. Might even stick the OEM bulbs back in and do all 3. BTW the Phillips are very good IMHO.
:happy2:

Smell away fella! :happy2:
Will see what I find and if any noticeable difference in light output, pattern or even looks then a small review but all IMHO, might have to order the Osrams as well then.
-
I'm now contemplating sacking the nightbreakers off and buying the phillips instead :|
-
Yeah a small review is what is needed! Just pictures in the dark showing the beam length and the bulb colour would do!
-
iam stuck between the MTEC and nightbreakers. About the same price, just want the brightest longest range.
My current Ring xenon whatevers only lasted 11 months, are slightly whiter than standard halogens, range about the same...
-
I want white lights.... Had Xenons on my last car and jumping back into one without is hopeless.... may aswell tape 2 torches to the front end!

Im considering nightbreakers over the MTEC's.

In that case it will be a choice between the nightbreakers or Phillips xtreme as the MTEC's are white but the beam is short (this is fine for me as I usually drive on lit up roads anyway).
-
Just got back inside from fitting my nightbreakers!
What a biiiatch it was too! Offside is a nightmare to work on! Got the bulbs in easy enough but the metal securing clips - no chance!!
I've had to leave one off! - cant see it will hurt to much as I picked up my GTI lights earlier today which I will be putting on as soon as I get the front end :) - I will be putting all bulbs in whilst its off the car!!!
Ill let you all know what I think of the lights later on tonight (or should i say this afternoon) when it's dark!
Cheers all!

Bulbs need to be secure, or all the bumps in the road will make your lights flicker!
-
Yea I later realised this Altho for the life of me I can't get it back on :/
-
The metal clips are only used for the main beam. So as you are changing the lights soon I guess you probably won't even use them.

No they are needed for the sidelights too!
-
I changed the mains and full beams to nightbreakers and the metal clip that secures the bulb came clean out and it won't go back in so I've taken the bulb out and as it stands just have no full beems but seems as I've picked up my gti lights ill change it all over completely soon so shouldn't matter to much.
With regards to the OSRAMs - there epic!!

Not on my car their not!

The metal clips, are used on the full beem, but not for sidelights or main beem. :happy2:

I can't really comment on the Cosmos Blue, but
My SuperWhite MTEC's are amazing :pomppomp:

???
The 4350k HID Class 100watt MTECs are more than bright enough.
I think when you first change from the awful Yellow beam bulbs to the Superwhite MTEC's its just something new. You get used to it quick.
I live out in the sticks with lots of country B roads and no lighting. I don't have any problems at all with the strength of the MTEC's.
Make sure you have put the bulbs correctly in the holders. Just a little bit off to one side and the beam will be out of alignment.
:happy2:

Any of you guys got these? What you think?

My friend just got them for his GTI and says they are really really good for the money you pay for them?
-
6 month warranty, probably means they don't last much longer than that..
gone with the super white xenon MTEC's, 1 year warranty. i'll let you all know what i think of em....

They are a nice white colour but I find the beam length is not much better than standard bulbs!
-
i am currently running oem xenon headlamps, i have tried both mtecs and nightbreakers in the full beam, imho the night breakers are a country mile better than the mtecs, the beam is more positive and projects as far as you can see, compared to the mtecs which is only slightly better than standard, and noticeably bluer light not great a bit tacky imo. ppl buy the nightbreakers you wont regret it,but what you will regret is having to keep taking your front bumper off to try each set lmao so to sum up.
mtecs = cosmetically very white/tinge of blue very poor beam pattern 4/10
nightbreakers =awesome bright distance beam, pattern goes for miles 10/10

BIGD,
Are you running OEM xenons without the shutters?
I am in a simmilar situation, my shutters are not enabled due to a midline cecm and when i pull my full beam stalk, i get the manky yellow light from the standard H7 Bulb.
Is your output pure white when you pull your full beam?
-
having to keep taking your front bumper off to try each set
Why would you do that?? It's unnecessary labour!
-
super white Mtec's arrived today...they are blue coloured....was'nt expecting that..
hid direct are doing 10% off with code = REPEAT
-
Just over a week in & I'm still very happy with my nightbreakers!
- still have no full beam on the negative side of things! Must put new headlights in!!!
-
I'm running OEM bi-xenons and i've got Philips H7 +80% xtremevisions in my highbeams...pretty bright whenever i need to use them....which isnt often...lol.
-
Hi Gt sport, yes i am running the same set up as you buddy, shutters not enabled, due to me upgrading my h7 full beam to osram nightbreakers the light is not as yellow as standard, but in comparison to the xenon dipped they are. iv tried various bulbs in the full beam m8 and to date have not found any as good as the osrams.mtecs show a very white light cosmetically but have a very poor light output(distance)i was not aware that i cldnt upgrade my xenon shutters due to me having the same midline cecm as you, might need to ask eddie on here for clarification on this,as i have just bought the uprated kufatec looms to enable the bi-xenon lights

Any pointers for sidelights? One of mine works for about 3mins and then comes up saying its faulty. Il give them a wiggle later and see but might just get some new ones!
