Hi fellow members
I purchased a Rns510 unit and had it installed yesterday, the FM reception is perfect however the AM reception is really poor, anyone have had idea why this is or any suggestions. The Rns510 replaced my rcd300
Thanks

if you paid a firm to fit it take it back
-
Thanks eddie what shall i say to them in case they say they fitted it correctly?
Do you reckon i need a new aerial?
-
there is nothing wrong with your antenna, nor with the rns
they need to swop the cables over
-
Which cables are they so i can tell them
-
I'm sure Ed means the antenna cables, there are two going into the head unit.
-
Cheers mate hope it is that because the FM is crystal clear
-
Had the same problem. On the back of the RNS there are two cables for the aerial........FM will work no matter which way you put them. Only one will work with AM.
As above, just change them round - it's the two next to the GPS antenna plug
-
Thanks mate will try that just hope the place i got the unit fitted from will do it for free because i dont know how to open the dash

I have spoken to the firm that fitted the unit they say my car has got 2 single aerials and the unit has capacity for a twin aerial only. They say i cant have AM with the current set up. I have 2008 08reg golf gt tdi. Do u think this is true or are they fobbing me off

you may need to use a fakra adapter. I had to do that on mine

that is funny, i have am and fm
-
Hey thanks how do i fit it
-
They told me today that they left the AM slot empty as cudnt fit the single aerial and only connected the AM
-
* should say connected only FM
-
What head unit did you have before as the second generation rcd300 and rcd500 units both have two aerial connectors.
I wonder if they damaged one of the aerial connectors and trying to fob you off to hide this.
-
I had the rcd300 unit previously

Any advice fellow members plz i listen to AM always i want it back

Really easy.
Remove the RNS unit from the car, take the antenna out from behind the rns. Plug the double adapter into the back on the rns and plug the 2 antennas from the car to the other end of the adapter.
Had this issue on 2 mk5 golfs including mine and this sorted the problem out
