I would want a proper garage report on it first. But if it checks out & you fancy it don't see why not.
-
I'd never touch one, but thats just me.
It should be a cheaper than 9k if on cat D, you should knock 25% off retail. My almost perfect car cost £9500 from a VW dealer.
-
I would, but I reckon that's way too expensive.
-
Me personally wouldn't, just dislike them and echoing what others have said thats too expensive for cat D.
-
Not if my life depended on it!
-
Like others, I wouldn't.
-
Nope, never, ever, ever!!
-
Not if my life depended on it!
+1
-
i'll leave it alone then :happy2:
-
you would be :surprised: to see what they cat d as my dad buys them all the time :signLOL: he got a rover that was cat d for small crease in the bumper and they said it would not start :surprised: new battery all it needed :signLOL: he has had loads like that when insurance can not be arsed to fix as value of car is not worth the price to fix so if you can find out what has happened to the car that would help. VWR have a mk5 that was wrote off from a rear end bump that put a crease in the boot floor  insurance wrote it off :chicken: they do get wrote off for some strange things
-
seems pricey for a cat D :scared:
-
omg im a total n00b - what is CAT D ?????????????????????????? :ashamed: :ashamed: :ashamed: :ashamed:
-
Cat D is the lowest/lightest form of insurance write off.
Its great for buying a cheap 5-8 year old hatchback, I've seen some that have just needed a headlamp and a bumper refit, but newish cars are repairred wherever possible, they only get written off if it was something too costly or time consuming.
There is only one exception, some insurance will give you a new car if your car is under a year old and in a shunt. These days its pretty rare but it could've been written off that way.
-
that ar is worth about 7k tops, i only payed 7.5k for mine with 60k miles on and it is fully spec'd bar xenons and 1 or 2 other bits, way to expensive, if the car hs been recorded as cat d then it was not worth repairing, so when they tell you it was bumper and bonnet and wings dont listen to them, as that s what all people say!
-
price too high - you can spend a little more to get a non accident damaged and save you the hassle when you come to sell.
-
Cheers for that Tom
Well - as others said... for the price it is.. you might as well buy another ( not written off ) and pay an extra couple of k's
I'd also be paranoid about the car thinking what else might be wrong with it :scared:
-
:driver: clear......
If you go for it you may also worry about selling later or be waiting for something to turn nasty....
Unless you get a super discount on that price, walk away.
I bought a Beemer way back in 95, it was previously a write off! (i loved the car but kept thinking what it...etc.) for a few grand more I would have had complete piece of mind..One day an engine mount went! it just cracked and the engine rattled in the bay....didnt cost much to repair but you get the idea and the anxiety that it brought with it.
It is STILL a buyers market you really don't need to buy a potential dud.
BTW I traded it in after 3 years for a brand new MX5....the idiot selling the new car NEVER asked once about the cars history lol... :embarrassed:
-
i personally wouldn't buy a CAT D car
1. you don't actually know the full extent previous issue
2. even if you did, the next buyer would be put off
3. even if it looks mint, it can be dodgy as shown on one of Fifth Gear programme with 2 ford focus head on collision
4. the least damage ones would be stolen and recovered, but those have usually seen a hard life when stolen, smoked in, bruised, battered etc.
save a little more or go for something else within budget
