Hi All,
This is my first post here.
I have a MK5 Golf GT TDI DSG 140. Love the car! but i have slight issue.
When i press the gas pedal i can hear a noise coming from behind the glove box area. This noise only made when i press the gas pedal while driving. i dont hear it when the car is stationery and out of gear. the noise sounds like "KURRRRRRR" (IF you know what i mean). and if i try and explain how loud it is then i would say if i turn the radio volume up only very slightly from 0 then i cant hear the sound. So it is only very faint but constantly there and is louder when the car is cold. when the car is when warm is less louder.
Just cant figure out why the noise would occur when i am pressing the gas pedal whilst driving.
Any ideas????
thanks in advance!

Sounds like someting is not right... Get it scanned with VCDS 1st, to see if you find any fault codes :happy2:

Thanks,
Ive got my OBD scanner. i plugged it in and got no codes. Not sure if the code scanner worked but its seemed to pickup the car VIN number and stuff so i presumed that it was working. The car has got Full VW history was last serviced 2000 miles ago. 37K. The car is now on 40k i purchased the car on 39K so i presume VW would have scanned it aswell. but the previous didnt advise of any issues.

Sounds very similar to my problem, I think it's the dual mass flywheel wearing out.

i really hope its not the dual mass flywheel! that sounds expensive.
So what other symptoms you get when the DMF is on its way out?
Thanks

Hi there,
I have a 1.9 TDi, it was on around 65k when I started to have the same problem, I thought nothing of it for a while and thought something was loose. After pulling the engine apart this was the flywheel, VW offered to do it for £850! So I would start shopping around a little bit, as it can be quite an expensive job... Hope things get sorted :happy2:

Thanks Ben!
This really doesn't look good for me! How would actually diagnose that is actually a dmf problem. Is there anything I can do myself to confirm this?
I also seem to get a slight vibration going through the car when the car is in neutral or park gears. Only very slight but still noticeable. Would this be an indicator aswell?
Thanks again

I seem to remember the vibration as well, all the little signs added up, I took it to the local garage who looked it over and confirmed it for me. When I took mine in after a month or two of this happening, he said I was lucky to make it there! The state of the DMF when it came out wasn't nice, so I suggest you get it looked at, and don't just leave it like I did!

Did you buy the car from a garage?
You might be coverd under warrenty or ask them to pay part of the costs as a goodwill gesture

Thanks baz and Ben.
Car was privately bought.
I've raised a call with vw midland specialists and explained the issue just waiting for a call back

Hi, one thing you can do to check it is to take the starter motor off and use a screwdriver to move / push the front part of the flywheel to see if there is play. Mine moves about an inch at the moment so is definately on its way out, the longer it's left the noisier it will get and will start to rattle at idle.
