Title: Black mk5 gti project
Post by: VWPalmer on November 12, 2012, 11:37:17 pm
Thought I'd start a thread as I've now sold all the parts off my old car so I have some money to spend

Here are a few pics from the day I picked it up.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fhh154%2FM_Palmer%2F4522CE62-3D6B-422F-BB95-244338909A73-282-00000011025DA86B.jpg&hash=90b76714df47fd4192e740af5b7e2b118e7fec1d)

So the plan is to get a revo stage one from PDT and an evoms intake on hopefully be around 250-260bhp? and an auto tech rear ARB. Then after new year get the NQSBBK hopefully.

loads  :signLOL: after the brakes I'm looking at twintercooler, hpfp, good coil overs, super pro lower arms with ALK, front ARB, milltek catback and k04 turbo set up   hopefully have most of that done by the end of next year then I should have a daily car so that I can get maybe a GT30 and forged internal and other fun stuff

About 320-330 bhp should be reliable on an AXX (k04 converted of course) but on a revo stage 1 you will struggle to see 250-260 bhp thats stage 2 power ,will be more like 240-245 bhp ,if you want 400 bhp its gonna be best to forge it for sure

Cheers for the info, I was planning on forging it just wasnt sure at which point to do so, after I get the k04 on it i'll get it forged to be safe  I should be able to get a stage 2 map and the associated parts shortly after christmas

gnj the parts i plan on getting are in one of my posts above. My ultimate goal is to break 400bhp

Haha

I'm looking at 360-380 with mine hopefully. I will prob upgrade the internals on ours or just swap it out for a newer S3 lump. Not sure just yet.

Couldn't help you with the Evoms but the rest we can with pretty much all of it.

Just ordered a couple of metal boost pipes to replace the standard plastic ones and an intake to tide me over till my full EVOMS intake I'm getting at Christmas.

Got the car mapped today  but one of my coil packs looks like its on it way out as I have an intermittent misfire but it's going to vw to get sorted at the weekend.

Here is the results after stage 1 and pre cat removal.

Went over to Pulman vw durham earlier to see the sales manager and he was very helpful. I had a few things I wasn't happy with after further inspection when I got it home, a piece of trim from where the rear view mirror met the headliner had broken and was hanging down, the refurb on the wheels was poor quality, two of the centre caps fell out in the first week I had it and there was some white worm on the rear badge and without any question he said he would replace all of the affected parts and get the wheels re done along with fixing the misfire. So it's booked in for next friday

What colour is yours jaffa? I'll keep an eye out for you

So I fitted the new badge on my key and started wrapping my intake, but I didn't order any where near enough tape :( The phone holder above is so I can use my new app Dashcommand designed by Palmers Performance Engineering in the US, I'll let you's know how it works when my obdII wifi dongle comes.

It has loads of other features too

Well picked my car up from vw last night to find they had fitted a late spec rear badge/handle which I don't like because it sticks out too much and they didn't fix my windscreen washer jets  :sad1: also I now have a rear brake light out which looks a pain in the arse to replace as there is no through panel in the carpet to get to the back of the light unit to change the bulb. But the biggest thing I found was that they had replaced an injector to sort the misfire out but hadn't bolted the fuel lines back down to the top of the inlet manifold properly. These two bolts aren't massively important but I don't think thats the point they could have fell out and caused other problems getting caught somewhere of this could mean they have left other bolts loose elsewhere that I can't see.
The two bolts

Now onto the good(ish) stuff. I went straight to the garage last night after collecting my car and fitted my 42 draft design shift bushes and i have to say the gear changes feel a lot nicer, much more solid, very happy with them especially for only £27

Shocking workmanship and attention to detail by pullman durham there like mate ,get it took back,if they have left those loose what else has'nt been tightened down properly
Title: Re: Black mk5 gti project
Post by: VWPalmer on December 12, 2012, 12:06:57 am
It was pulman sunderland that left the bolts loose and pulman durham that did the rest. I went down today and spoke to the service manager and he brought the tech who worked on the car out to my car and it was the same tech that damaged a piece of trim on my old passat. They fixed my bulb today and checked the car over for any other loose bolts even though I checked it last night, they have also offered my a free full professional valet on the car. I'm in two minds about the badge I just don't think it looks right with it sticking out about 5mm but the badge itself does look better than the old style one.

From jjc race and rally I think they are called on ebay its fairly pricey though the first roll was 1.5"x15ft at £32 I think and the second roll was 2.0"x15ft at about £40 but I only used half of the second roll.

Cheers for the comments :)

Well this thread has went quite for a while as vw took 2 weeks to find out what was causing a slow cam shaft position sensor response. It would have been fixed yesterday but the kit they ordered (I think it was oil pressure sensor or something?) came with the wrong seals in so they have had to order a new kit which will be here on monday so I should get it back then.

Then I can get back to work as parts are starting to mount up   On wednesday I'm going to finally fit my EVOMS, smooth my grill and relocate to a bracket I have made to go into my tow hook hole. I also have a can of plasti dip so I'm gonna do my badges black and see how I like them.

Here is the tow hook I got to make the numberplate bracket out of, when I'm at shows I will take off the plate and put the red part back on.

So I had a chance to fit most of the parts I had collected over the time the car was in the garage.

I plasti dipped both of the badges on the rear of the car.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fhh154%2FM_Palmer%2F1306CFC4-8445-4F7A-B553-87856DF5A2BF-5458-0000034CA023F06E.jpg&hash=593d081dd6b957bf05c3bc17196c08a325da2589)

Then I did a ghetto smooth job on the front grill using the plasti dip just to see how it would look.

And after on the car along with the black front badge and EVOMS
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fhh154%2FM_Palmer%2F617F9466-898C-4530-AF23-138DCA0170F7-5458-0000034C98B725AB.jpg&hash=ec378b7ebb56e66692479a1913b2ca6ffd0ee76a)

I quite like how it looks so might do it permanent. I was going to make a plate holder out of the tow hook I bought but it was totally the wrong length and stuck out of the front of the car by miles and looked daft.

Better picture of the EVOMS, I love how it sounds now and it might just be me but it seems a lot more responsive when I accelerate. I also carried out a little test to see if the heat wrap and shield worked. Before I fitted them I set my dash command up and recorded the outside temp at 6Deg C and the intake temp at 50mph at 15Deg C. Then I fitted the intake and heat shield and did the same test again, the outside temp this time was 10Deg C and the intake temp ranged between 9-11Deg C with speed ranging from 30 to 70mph. When I stopped at the lights and there was no fresh air coming at the car the intake temp rose to 14Deg C. So in my opinion it has improved and I'm quite happy with it.

In other news I bought a new wash mitt

Yea mighty it works with the standard car I bought my obdII dongle off ebay and the dashcommand app from the apple app store cost me £60 all in it pretty cool. You could get it for less and in my opinion it worth it even just for the ability to read and clear codes whenever and where ever you want.

Bit of an update, my car is in the garage at the moment because of a suspect oil pressure drop  :scared: but it under warranty so getting done for free. It's also getting the boot lid painted under warranty because of some corrosion under the boot handle/badge.

Now onto the good news  I've ordered an air lift performance air ride set up with adjustable dampers, I know most on here may frown upon air ride but I've always loved going to shows and showing my car, but in my opinion sometimes a car doesn't look as good at a good driving height when its on a show field so I have compromised.

I've ordered a set of depo xenon look headlights from the group buy on here  :happy2: and I bought a set of these in 18x8"
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.skyroadster.com%2Fforums%2Fattachments%2Ff25%2F21955d1201921042-rim-tire-recommendations-oz_ultraleggera_mblk_ci3_l.jpg&hash=ccd111b52b372a87f3e1e094966158c46bb04d58)
only 8kg per wheel.

Oh and I picked these up

I'm only gonna be using the passenger side one though as I have already cut a hole in my drivers one for the tow hook/numberplate holder.

These just came as well from AKS :)

Just found out that my xenon look headlights aren't gonna turn up until april :( I'm still gonna get them but it free's up some money for me this month so I'm unsure if I should get both rear quarter in polycarbonate more than 50% lighter than the stock windows, or if I should buy the superpro anti lift kit both around £160.

Been a while since my last update, but here is the latest.

This week I finally got to fit my airlift performance and autopilot v2 set up fitted to the car  . I have to say I am extremely impressed with how well it handles it is a million times better than what I expected and more importantly better than the stock gti suspension   I was going to purchase an anti lift kit for the car but with the air ride on it hardly lifts at all on hard acceleration and has massively reduced wheel spin as a result. I have to say a big thanks to vik at design4 for helping me decide on which kit and the help he gave whilst I was fitting it   .

Only one very dirty picture as I have had no time at all since UD to clean it  .

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fhh154%2FM_Palmer%2FED04FC59-5A7E-420E-93B1-9F34D8395C16-1305-000000C6C31744CB_zpsef8f293f.jpg&hash=562ca448549aeb5493efaf91547f3f88bf64f94e)

Sat next to ryan's 20vt mk2 that weighs only 780kg

I still need to paint the wheels and fiddle with how it sits.

looks great need some better pics and some pics of the install!  :congrats:

Hope to see it driving around sunderland, i was looking at air with autopilot v2 but don't think i can justify it with only doing just over 4000 miles over the past year.

Did you get the OZ off edition 38 by any chance?

I had waited for about a month or so to buy those wheels haha, I'm not sure whats next I'll just have too see what I fancy when I have the money. The main things i'm looking at now are r32 rear, stage 2 (decat downpipe and hpfp) and suede retrim for the steering wheel

Is it advisable to have shorter aftermarket rear shocks with an air install?

Bit of an update,

Carbon wings should be here this week

New coilovers should be here in the next few weeks along with a new steering wheel.  :driver:

New "spare" wheels

Test fit with no centre caps haha, they are abt's 19x8.5 et32.

Also knocked these up at work to let my run 10mm spacers on the back, I removed the spigot that came in the back of my OZ's and got a set of no hub centric spacers and made this spigot to replace the one on the wheels and makes the no hubcentrics, hubcentric  :signLOL:

I didnt like the driving high parking low thing tbh I want it to look just as good moving as it does standing still. I only bought it in the first place because I didnt get change to fit the air I had for my passat.

Yea they are 10mm wider per side

Been a while since I last posted and my car has changed a fair bit since. Just before cumbria vag I picked up some ABT wheels and fitted some little nankangs and lowered it as far as it would go on the kw's.

Then I got the ultraleggeras back from the refurb in anthracite. Had to raise it up 10mm on the front because of the bigger tyres.

Then after 3 and half months of being foobar'd about by amber performance I finally got a pair of non damaged carbon wings and while I was waiting for them I picked up an ABT big brake kit, its similar to the r32 set up but there are a few minor differences.

Cheers for the comments, it is a bit hairy with the tyres toutching the carbon. I have some slightly more low profile tyres on the way which should make a little bit of room for them to breath.

Not sure N8, I fancy buying an r32 as a daily beginning of next year so i can put the gti in the unit so I'll probably just be saving for that for a bit.
