Title: VCDS Lite Help
Post by: dry664 on November 13, 2012, 01:24:32 pm
I'm looking to do an airbag light reset after doing the following......
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,55968.0.html

I downloaded VCDS Lite 1.1 and got a cheap ebay cable. Followed all instructions relating to the cable and drivers. In VCDS went to options, test, got the OK message and saved settings. Then ran the control module finder (took 45 mins!) and it found nothing. Not a bean. Any pointers? Have I missed something fundamental here? Thanks.

The answer lies in the question.

Yes I fiddled the words. But I think real investment would pay off. Buy cheap you normally buy twice.

Thanks for the helpful advice.

Thing is though that if the cable was a duffer I would not expect it to pass the test phase. Anyone with experience able to shed some light?

Where exactly are you based?

This will only work for the old Mk4 platform not the new CAN capable Mk5.

Based in Woking, Surrey.

I had an offer from someone on ebay to do the reset for me for £25. I thought it was a tad steep.

That explains a lot! Is there a shareware version of VCDS that works with a MK5? Thanks

I think it it would be easier for you to:

a) Find someone here who has a cable - they'll help you.
b) Buy a genuine RossTech cable. You might get one on ebay for less than a new one. They are a wee bit expensive, but you know it'll work and you'll have all software updates etc.

Piracy isn't the best and in your case is costing you money!

Having said all this it's only my opinion of course, I'm not here to tell anyone what to do.

Sorted! A quick call to Simon over at AMD and a 10 min trip down the road. Simon is a lovely bloke and the map he did for my car 18 months ago has been fantastic.

Light stayed off for the journey home so hopefully all is fixed. Thanks all for advice

Yep I've got the same problem with my '55 plate GTI and VCDS lite. Funny thing is that it worked fine on my '04 plate 2.0 TDI 140. Anyone shed some light on that one ?
