Title: iPhone 5 on MDI kit
Post by: Baz300 on November 13, 2012, 11:21:22 pm
Has anyone tried an iPhone 5 with the connector adaptor in a MDI kit yet?

I'm tempted to fit the kit as when I'm streaming music from my phone through Bluetooth I have to change albums and tracks from the phone rather than through the head unit or steering wheel buttons

Probably doesn't answer your question, but I've not read the whole article....

Doesn't look promising as I need Bluetooth switched on for any phone calls in the car

Might just have to stop buying my music from apple so I can put the mp3s directly onto the SD card without messing about

That's the problem I have with my current head unit. Can plug my phone in using the dock connector but you have to change channel to iPod input from Bluetooth audio so you lose the call functionality (I think). So I've just went for straight Bluetooth and have some bits to make a dock connection in my ashtray!

Upgrade your firmware of your headunit and i think the problem is sorted! I had the same problem but upgraded to 4120 and now my mfsw skips the tracks when playing music through bluetooth. PM Golfman and ask, certainly alot cheaper than an mdi kit too

its not the fw for the unit, its for the can gateway.

i did a total update that made the BT info work but dimmed the backlight on my unit, then went to a modified rcd510 fw that updated the head unit but left the old can gateway sw.

dim screen solved but lost BT track info

How did you update the firmware?

I have an A revision Rcd but thought the bt track was only available on a B revision

I know there are generally issues with BT track info, changing/pausing tracks etc across platforms after the upgrade to ios6. My pioneer unit used to, but can no longer change tracks etc. Waiting for pioneer to issue a firmware update.

There is a new iOS upgrade available perhaps this will fix the bugs

I still cannot get it as every time I try to download it my bt Internet just crashes (only does it when I try to download from iTunes)

Will try taking my laptop to work next week to see if I can download it from there

Afraid it doesn't, if your mean 6.01 as that's what I'm running. They beta 6.1 is with developers though so it might get resolved when that's released. Wouldn't hold your breath though as I'm sure Apple will say its up to other manufacturers to catch up/update.

Do you have BT and it also added text to tracks and allowed skipping via buttons?

My 3810 FW doesnt show any text or allow skipping/pause (AVRCP).

Also what version RNS do you have?

Solved. I upgraded to 4020 and Bluetooth AVRCP is fully supported. So track names and skip/pause functions perfectly on iPhone 5.
