No they are fake.
-
what are the downsides to a fake cable? Ive heard people say they do work but to a certain limit. What cant they do?
-
why do people want to buy a fake cable? :stupid:
if vcds cost £1000s then i could understand it to some point.
but as you can buy a genuine lead for just over £200 with support, free updates or a genuine 2nd hand one for even less
plus there is risk that it won't do what the genuine cable can do and could even damage your car
-
I wouldn't know.
My genuine Ross Tech cable works for all current models and will continue to do so, provided people keep buying them so they can incorporate any new features in the years to come.

they won't have all the newer label files to start with
-
Anyone know of any real cables up for sale?

Do you need one? Can't you just find someone local who has it?
-
If I was Ross tech I would make the softwear so that if anyone uses a fake cable with VCDS it locks and immobilises the ECU
Won't take long before people will be afraid to use the rip off cables

If you plan to keep buying VAG cars then it is worth the investment.
Most garages charge around £60 to do a diagnostic check (probably more at VW)
So after 5 checks with VCDS it has saved you money

I didn't mean that in a bad way
Just if you keep buying VAG's then it can be used on all future cars
It is also a lot more than just a diagnostic tool
