Title: Chassis notch
Post by: Scrubadub on November 16, 2012, 03:45:57 pm
Need to perform above mod as going air ride.
Anyone done it? Just wanted to know what size tubing to weld in as read conflicting views.

Thanks in advance

Are you sure you will need to do this? The mk5 has a massive notch anyway!

From what I've read stateside, to "lay frame" the driverside will need a notch.
Seen people using 2.5" outer diameter tubing but just wanted tried and tested answer

I would try and avoid it at all costs.

1... insurance complications.
2... chassis rigidity.... you will weaken the crumple zone making it less effective
3... re-sale? who will by a cars that has had the chassis leg chopped into.

I know the likes of Plush automotive do this modification as part of the cost when installing air ride to a mk5.

I read aslong as the tubing thick enough you will not affect the rigidity of the chassis rail. If anything could make it stronger
