Post by: Lone_Par on November 16, 2012, 09:58:34 pm: MK2 Astra (C Reg). Got it in 97 when I was 17. Paid £200 for it and it lasted 2 years. Needed a new clutch, petrol gauge didn't really work so ran out about 3 times and the rear arches were black hamerite where it had been welded then painted.

Great car....until I realised oil was required and the engine seized. :ashamed:

Not mine either - but fairly similar, albeit mines was 3 door.

Haha and me. SR interior and GSI clocks. I must say they were a lot easier to change back then.

Everything but the engine was changed so I had a car that stopped and handled amazing but was so slow it took 16.4 seconds to get from 0-60 :laugh: best 4 years of my life doing all the work to that car as a teenager!

Post by: lewza on November 17, 2012, 10:56:24 am: My first car was 1.6 Saxo VTR, paid £700 for it at the time but had about 130k on the clock (was impatient, wanted to drive) so got it and needless to say the crankshaft snapped 3 months later and I sold it without and engine for £600 so didnt work out to bad I suppose.

Also the sticky gas pedal mechanism was entertaining at times...

Well actually it was my dad's car which I shared for 3-4 years, so technically the GTI is 'my' first car :happy2:
